Director Takashi Miike's recreated Hiroshi Takahashi's original comic book that sold more than 32 million copies in Japan. This film is about violence in private institutes. The film presents the story that precedes the comic book. The characters have also been newly re-created.
Suzuran High School is also known as The School of Crows. The biggest clique, Serizawa Army and its boss Tamaran Serizawa are challenged by a new student to the read moreschool, Kenji Takiya. Takiya, son of a yakuza boss, wants to be the school's ace fighter. But at the advice of Ken Katagiri, a low-ranked start-out yakuza, Takiya starts to muster together a gang of his own. And as he grows into a true leader, he must face an ultimate battle with Serizawa's gang. Through Serizawa and Takiya's battle, director Takahashi shows not only his unique aesthetics for violence but also the true meaning of charisma, friendship, and leadership.

I stumbled onto this movie because I think Oguri Shun is a good actor and I wanted to see him in something prior to ‘Border’. I am so glad that I found this little gem of a movie. There are many over the top awesome action scenes, some great characters and a good simple story. This movie was simply FUN to watch, there are some hilarious scenes but surprisingly it has heart read more as well. It was a thoroughly enjoyable movie to watch and Oguri Shun is fabulous as Genji.

Story: This was my first fighting movie ever (I never even watched American fighting movies) so I didn’t go in expecting much. This movie blew me away and even more. I found the story very interesting. And despite it being based off of a manga, the characters were recreated and very interesting. Even with all the ass kicking the director still found time to add bits of humor. It wasn’t very realistic read more taking place at a school where the only time you see teachers is at the very beginning, but the rest of it was alright.

Music: It was enjoyable. Nothing as memorable as the soundtrack to 1 Litre of Tears, but decent none the less.

Cast/Acting: The only, and I mean only, reason that I wanted to try out a violent movie in the first place was because Oguri Shun stars in it (him being my favorite Japanese actor). I wasn’t disappointed. Of course like his role in Hana Kimi and Hana Yori Dango he plays a more silent and serious type and plays it even better than I’ve ever seen. I had no problem believing into his charactor.

In addition to Oguri Shuns brilliant acting, I loved some of the leaders from other gangs. Mostly because, as a girl, a lot of them made great eye candy. Such as Tokio played by Kenta Kiritani, Izaki played by Sousuke Takaoka and Hiromi played by Shunsuke Daito.

Even better than the eye candy were the fight scenes. No lie.

Both have similar underlying values about fighting to be the leader of the school. Friendship between leader and best friend are also a strong focus. Crows zero is like a serious, mature-audience version of Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou.

Both are drama's about school boys fighting each other, finding friends and love. Bad boys J is less serious than Crows Zero

Well.. the dubbing was okay I guess... better than the dubbing for TOP in Into The Fire.. :'D But I was just completely shocked (positively) that it was dubbed in German and was actually in German TV. :D

Oh yeah, that's super cool! I'm always happy when they dub a Japanese movie (even if the dubbing itself is so and so) because in that way a lot more people who wouldn't bother with subtitles can watch them!

I admit I watched it just because everyone was saying it was great (and, uhm...Oguri Shun), but I fell in love! It's funny, it has awesome action scenes and the soundtrack...oh, the soundtrack!
So, you people who don't know what it's all about...just watch it, it won't let you down! ;)
