The drama is about a Goryeo-era prince who is first in succession for the throne. He belongs to a royal secret society, and is dogged his whole life by a prophecy that he will turn Goryeo into an ocean of blood someday. His character is meticulous and bold, and is especially good at making quick decisions on his feet.
The heroine is the last princess from Balhae (there are only eight years read moreof overlap in these two kingdoms), and is skilled in many areas, including astronomy, geography, and the art of war. She’s fated to bring light to the Goryeo prince, and she’s described as spunky and wise, and a believer in fated love. The drama will depict their palace romance, between a cursed prince and a princess of a lost nation.

Why is it that TV & film writers feel the need to make drastic changes to the source material whose popularity provided the reason to make the drama? I'm talking major PLOT changes - especially endings! Which brings us to this drama.
I enjoyed the beginnings - quirky, good cast, interesting storyline, et al. I found that as the story progressed it did somewhat lose track of the beginnings, but not terribly, read more and the main love affair kept on track very nicely. It differed enough from the real history of this king that I didn't worry about the kids (shown in the first episode) too much & just wondered about the resolution.
Well. What resolution, I ask myself after finishing this? What happened? How? I don't know. I highly suggest one NOT watch the last 10 minutes of the final episode. Make up your own ending & watch the credits roll. Go read the book, which has a satisfying, logical ending. Don't expect to have any questions answered by this sageuk :(

OMG...just skip everything and only watch the romance between the leads and even then you should stop watching at:40:15 of the last episode. This writer just ticked me off with that ending. I lowered the score 1 point for it alone. The rest of the story is just political and the other characters are stupid and annoying (well, except Shin Yool's people). I think the plot of the story is interesting. It read more is the writers execution of the plot that is the problem. It is like the writer wasn't sure where the story should go and had a hard time incorporating all the story lines so that it was smooth. Also, character development and change are common, but somewhere around episode 20 some of the characters changed to the point that it wasn't believable. Although, I guess love can make you do strange things. Also, the writer totally wasted a character. I was so mad that I almost gave this drama a 1. One thing the writer got right was the last "fight". It was the one thing the writer kept true to the story line and to Wang So's character.

This drama has some over acting from all the actors, but I think that they were directed to act that way. Other wise why would they all be overly dramatic? Then there are some well acted parts like diamonds in the rough.

I am a Jang Hyuk fan and I believe he gave the performance that was expected of him as Prince Wang So. Regardless of the directing he is still handsome, funny, serious, and sincere as needed. A lot of people say that Oh Yeon Seo has had too much plastic surgery. Maybe she has, but it seems that she has no problem expressing her emotions and I enjoyed her character as Shin Yool. That is where it stops. Lee Ha Nui as Yeo Won was just too wooden and even when she cried it seemed insincere. Her back story make since as to why the character would be cold, etc, but there is a difference between that and Pinocchio. Im Joo Hwan failed miserably as Wang Wook. His acting was really bad and he mostly looked like he was in drag. He is no rival to Jang Hyuk that is for sure.

There is some music that I liked.

I will never ever rewatch this.

I do not recommend this to anyone. Not even sageuk lovers.

both are set in historical period.
both the male main character “Wang So” are cursed princes destined to become king.

Because both series have similars storyline, the confusion between a woman wear as man, a very good man trying to be king and fix the world. The difference is basic about the second characters, which are more kind and nice in Love in the moonlight than in Shine or Go Crazy.

This was a really incredible. Anything with Jang Hyuk-hyung usually is especially in historical drama. And I think this is the best romance between leads I have seen in any drama, it was sweet, sincere, and tender.
Also, connecting this drama with Six Flying Dragons, did the writers take a lot of liberty with historical accuracy? I wonder.

I started this awhile ago then dropped after the first 2-3 episodes cause I just didn't like the female leads lovesick behavior. Now, I'm considering starting it again because I heard it was similar to Scarlet Heart Ryeo. So my question is: does the female character get more independent (I can't think of the right word to use cos it's nother like she's not smart, just too lovesick for my taste) or does she behave the same way throughout the show?

I think she is kinda the same, but i am still around ep. 10 (and it's hard to keep going, cuz lots of things...).
Anyway, i will finish the series, mostly cuz I want to compare it with ML (as if it's close to the historical events).
So I recommend u to watch it all, just skip when u feel bored (so most of the time :D ), at least in honor to Wang So :D

I love love loved the ending. So bittersweet.
Amazingly written deep characters except for the main villain. He was weak and a little bit one dimensional. There were a couple slightly draggy spots in the plot, but nothing too bad. This drama made me cry twice. That's really impressive, especially considering one of those cries wasn't even about a main character.
Wonderful balance of romance and politicking imo.
Acting was so good. Jang Hyuk acts a little strangely sometimes, but it's effective in making his characters unique and memorable.
This drama is way better than I ever expected it to be. Just a very very solid sageuk.
