WHAT I THINK IS GOOD:

The movie's not perfect, but I still love it :) Great music, great cinematography, and dialogue exchange on confessions ... I replay all the couple interactions between the two main characters, just because, I'm a sucker for make-out scenes.

WHAT CAN BE IMPROVED:

It would've been better if it included a backstory (as explained in the original novel) on how Cheng Zheng fell in love with Su Yunjin. Also, the movie did not provide more scenes on events that occurred, ultimately not giving enough time on characters to grow and develop properly throughout the story.

Otherwise, the movie is great. The ending was slightly disappointing because I wanted a more straightforward ending, but it opened up questions and allowed me to think about what should happen based on the decisions the couples have made in the story. It's a neutral ending and I didn't see anything bad from it.

By the way, this movie ending isn't the actual ending to the story. If you watch the MV version of the theme song to Never Gone you would see the perfect happy ending that most viewers would be looking for. *raises hand* :)

This film was frustating. It got me through a 24 hour flight but it was so frustrating! For starters, it felt like it never got started and the ending was atrocious. Personally, I believe it would have been better as a drama, rather then a film.
The story could have been really well done if on a larger time scale (therefore why I suggest it should be a drama). It is very sweet but I think should have been more in depth. The story line is something that cannot and should not be rushed, but was. For that reason the characters weren't very strong, which then meant that you didn't have a strong connection to them.
For that reason, the actors, I don't think, could have done much better then they did. I think the main selling point for this film was the fact that they are attractive. That probably adds a lot more to the film then you would get otherwise. The music wasn't too memorable.
Just to note, make sure it is a good subtitled version because I found the version I watched (which to be fair was on a Cathay Pacific flight, so I would have expected more from paid translators) didn't have very good wording with it, and didn't translate what was written down, which seemed to be quite essential (I can't tell though).
Also make note that the ending is the most frustrating thing you will ever see and brings more questions then answers. However if you google it, you find out what the final plot was meant to be and you feel a bit more satisfied. Also look {https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1E-qugSxZLA} as it has the deleted scene at the end. The director was an idiot for cutting out the ending because it kind of ruins the film - or at least it ruined a good 7 hours of my flight as I got frustrated for not seeing the ending.
Overall, I would get too frustrated to watch this again. At points I enjoyed the film, but I think it just wasn't well done. I enjoyed the theoretical story line, but wish that it was done better (preferably as a drama).

The action takes place in very beautiful 'nooks' of China - Beijing, Shanghai - which allows us to see not only the beauty of Kris and the main actress but the beauty of this Asian country as well. Nobody can deny that their roles are played perfect - you can actually feel all the pain and confusion the characters are meant to express as well as kind of put yourself in their shoes. You start asking yourself the question 'what would I do if he/she were me'.

Personally, I liked the movie although there were some gaps in the plot but that is somehow understandable considering its short duration. I liked it because it shows real-life situations, it shows how unconditional love can be and how some people are willing to leave everything behind just to experience it and others are not. It shows us the undesirable difference between the poor and the rich. But it also makes it visible to us that money is not exactly everything as we are used to thinking mainly about money in the 21st century. On the other hand, the action was way too fastened and it does not give us the chance to think over the plot. It does not let us see the entire beauty of what is being shown on the screen. However, if it had been done in a drama series, it would not have brought that special feeling at the very end.

To sum up, I recommend the movie to everyone who likes 'dumb' romantic comedies, it warms the heart for sure.

Left me empty

I watched this movie a few years ago when I first got into cdramas and movies and trust when I say this I was emotionally INVESTED in this movie. In some of the parts I was so lost but igs the comments on the movie kinda explained everything like the death of her family member I was so confused when they showed the red cloth thingy on her arm luckily someone commented what the red cloth meant.
As for the ending, it absolutely tore me like what??? Idk if I should add the deleted scene as a part of the movie or not. Like does she just assume he got the other girl pregnant and leaves or does he come and explain everything to her and they end up together. There basically two endings for whoever wanted to choose whichever ending they wanted but i feel like they should've made the ending clear so we know whether if they met in the end or not.
Its been years and I still feel empty everytime I think about this movie, my heart genuinely hurts for them considering I was so invested in them.

You know how sometimes you just KNOW that you're gonna like something before you even watch it? This movie was highly awaited by me and I was sure I would end up liking it and... I did!! I wouldn't recommend this movie to many people. You can enjoy this only if you're a diehard Kris fan (like me) or just happen to love lighthearted movies without much depth to them.

Sometimes it's good to let it loose and enjoy a no-brainer for an hour or so. I watched this movie when I had nothing to do and so ended up quite enjoying it. It's a run of the mill boy and girl fall in love story with a question of will-they-end-up-together-or-not question looming over our heads during the entirety of the film. Most of it is silly and pointless at times but the random cheesy romantic sequences were heart fluttering at best.

I have wanted to watch Kris in a proper role where he plays a character closer to his own age and I got that here. He isn't a great actor by any means but I thought he was better than a lot of idols who are venturing into acting. A couple of scenes were really cringeworthy (e.g. The Church scene) but it was nothing I couldn't handle. Like I said, the romance was cute and the film served its purpose of entertaining me. Plus he is a rather good kisser so it helps. ;)

Sometimes the story can get confusing and so I gave it a 7. I feel like a lot was tried to condense in a hour and a half whereas this story would have been better off as a short drama. It definitely had the potential and the cast was great so maybe that would have been better. Another reason I liked it but didn't LOVE it was the ending. The ending was not very clear and I think it would be better if they made a sequel to it add another couple minutes to it for a special edition DVD or something.

Anyway, give this a try if you don't wanna use your brains too much. But the leads can get quite frustrating so consider yourself warned. :)

This was a singularly unsatisfying movie. Too much wedged into two hours, such that nothing got enough investment to have a good emotional pay off. Too much of the romance was borderline abusive to be really romantic (though I suspect that this, again, is the result of trying to condense too much into too short a time, so that nothing ends up having the impact that it should have, or the nuance that would've given it depth).

Visually I liked the attraction and chemistry between the leads in the beginning the love-hate was cute to watch, however male lead's performance could have been stronger. I did not like the repetitive loop of female lead's confusion of her feelings that got annoying fast. I feel like she caused the guys who liked her to suffer unnecessarily. I wouldn't watch this again

This was actually the first korean drama I ever watched, and it is the reason that I got into k-dramas and still love them to this day. I watched it a long time ago, but I wanted to write a quick review to reccomend it to other watchers. The story is at times heart-warming, at times heart-breaking. It was very well written, and it feels very real (there aren't "goodies" and "baddies" from what I remember). You feel the struggle that the two protagonists felt, and the actors carried their roles out well. I recommend this drama to watchers who love slice-of-life/romance dramas. I was particullarly fond of the female protagonist, because she was original and at times cold-hearted unlike most female protagonists in romance k-dramas, and the man's devotion and love to the female lead was very sweet. Struggles in reality, like cheating, were looked upon from a different view. This movie kept me on the edge of my sight, sometimes smiling, sometimes crying, and it is trully a lovely drama. Since this was my very first korean drama that I ever watched and it was a long time ago, i had nothing to compare it to and just found it wonderful. Some of the things I say may be wrong, but this is how I remember it. Definitly worth a watch!

This movie felt like I was watching a cliff notes version of a story. It held no personalities for the characters, no real direction, no connection, and just moved you from point to point throughout time without context or understanding. The basic story is that they meet in high school, the rich popular boy falls for the defiant poor girl but she chooses not to return his affection because of her family situation. They separate and reunite after college. They build a love story for a few years then separate again. But none of the points are explained at all. You just jump to those points in time with no understanding of why the characters like each other, why he is so attached to her after years, why she is so closed off and quiet. There is no foundation for the relationship but also no character building for anyone so you don't understand personalities or what makes each one do the things they do. The ending is the most atrocious however as the real ending I guess was cut? You can find it by looking it up, not that it'll make much more sense than the rest of the film but at least you will be less frustrated.

The series starts off kind a sweetie and has an upbeat tight vibe to it in the beginning. As the synopsis says ,tragedy happens. There was an event that took place within the female lead family and she came back to her educational scene with a completely different demeanor, which killed the whole thing for me. Many viewers have read the books or seen different versions of this however I only saw what was presented on Netflix and I have to tell you it’s kind of disappointing. There were so many unexplained things and the ending was just open ended and it kind of made it suck. First of all it’s never really explain why the females personality changed, and her reasons for her behavior. It was a nice movie but it felt like there were so many missing pieces and then the end was like blah.
