Mirror of the Witch is a mediocre drama. The story line is interesting and different, but it is written in circles. Some of the story is riveting, while other parts I felt were just more of the same. The production and cinematography is appealing. Also, the age difference between the leads didn't mean a thing. I probably would not have rated it as high if the lead female character was not awesome. read more She is written so well as smart and strong which is great to see. Although I get why it ended the way it did because it makes since for her character, it was still bitter sweet. I felt like it was a waste considering how much struggle the other characters put into keeping that from happening. I guess I would have rated it higher if the ending had been different also.

The acting is good. Kim Sae Ron is a great little actress and I hope that she can keep that skill into adult hood. I enjoyed her portrayal of Yeon Hee with both vulnerability and strength. Yoon Shi Yoon also did a good job as Heo Jun. He had the most character development and he was a cool character. The other actors were ok also.

The music is good.

I won't rewatch this.

If you like supernatural historical dramas or a Yoon Shi Yoon fan, then this isn't a bad watch.

WARNING. The story has a tragic, inconclusive ending (is it a spoiler? I don't think it's a spoiler, more like a part of a premise for me) and holds on for 20 eps only because of many convenient coincindences and blocked puzzles. Don't let it discourage you from watching Mirror of the Witch.

1. It's beautiful and looks high-budget. From cinematography, setting, clothes to special effects (lots of creeping black smoke demonic read more energy-thing). The music is outstanding and I usually either actively ignore or low-key despise music in kdramas.
2. The acting is great. The main couple is doing just fine, there's a tiny bit of comic relief from supportive characters, but the best are the antagonists doing splendid job in portaying flawed, conflicted characters.
3. The supernatural theme is well motivated in a psychology of the characters, it's more than a superflous plot-device or atmosphere-building background decoration. There are many characters you will want dead (preferably slowly and painfully), but none of them is just plain evil. They have their backstories and they change as the story goes.
4. The heroine isn't some damsel in distress. She has an impressive superpowers and knows how to use it (but it doesn't make her One Punch Girl, magic is never the lasting solution and it's not overused in a plot /well, at least not in this case). Bonus points for her being a strong, caring kid mature for her age. [Compare with Bo Nui - almost 10 yrs younger, with actual curse laying on her, but dealing with it quite differently.]
5. Yes, the plotline tends to be repetitive, but while the same configurations of events keep recurring, characters develop. So nothing is ever the same and it gives a viewer a sense of an ironic symmetry.
6. I'm an iceberg and it made me cry.

Both dramas are a fantasy-romance in a historical universe.
Both leads have supernatural power and try to find a way to get ride of it to save their lives and finally be able to live a normal life with their beloved.

It deals with the supernatural and fantasy aspect in the Chosen Dynasty along with a romantic storyline.

Unlike here the main is not a witch but she is a ghost.

The Storyline is different but both are equally exciting.

Watching this drama made me realize how much Kim Sae Ron has bloomed into a beautiful young actress.

Wow...I really loved this drama and the actors were excellent! I don't understand why it is sooo underrated! I put off watching this for quite some time because of a few negative comments, but now I regret doing that (besides the fact that I love historical dramas and 20 episodes is a good length--even though I have seen some amazing dramas that were 50+ episodes).
"Mirror of the Witch" was so good that it is definitely a drama that I will recommend to others and re-watch myself (for one thing, I love Yoon Shi Yoon). TBH (To be honest), I really didn't care for the first episode, but every episode after that just got better and better. I never say this--but please ignore the first two reviews above. For one thing, it is Not an inconclusive drama and it is Not mediocre! I give this a rating of 9 out of 10--even with a difficult first episode. Enjoy and take care.

Thanks to your comment I'm now considering watching MOTW ♡ I remember wanting to watch when it was airing but end up never starting since I'm always watching to much stuff
But I'm currently watching Hit The Top and I saw Yoon Shi Yoon for the first time (I'm loving him so much, I was so sad to see most dramas he has done haven't good ratings, since I wanted to see him in other dramas) and now I think I have another drama he's in to watch, thank you ♡♡

This was an interesting watch. The main problem is it's 4 episodes to long with back and forth drama between good and evil which leads to being boring. Reminds me of Once Upon A Time. The good girl would try to beat the evil witch and always getting smacked down. Rinse and repeat for many seasons.

This drama was too stretched in my opinion, The story got puzzled and confusing the middle ie everyone is going round again and again .. I actually left this show but i wanted this off my list so watched it . The actors tried their best to save the show but the story was too here and there if there were less episodes then it would have been great but no the writers tried to milk it but became ruined it in the process

Took me FOREVER to finish this show... Then they ended it like that? Thanks a lot, writers. You have proven to me once again that I'm stupid for sticking with a show after I reach a certain point out of pure stubbornness.
