So how would I describe this show? This story tried to be too much. It was a romance mixed with slapstick humor, and dark thriller. How did those elements combine? Not too well, actually....but the parts that were good were good enough to keep me watching until the end.

This show started off strong and I was loving it up until about a little over halfway, when it dawned on me that read more the story was just kind of nonsense. But the leads are so freaking adorable (and probably every teenage girl's dream fantasy romance) that they kept sucking me back in every week. I said the other day that I didn't think I'd had a girl crush on anyone in a show yet, but Park Bo Young may have reached that status for me. And Park Hyung Shik is almost too pretty - but his acting as Ahn Min Hyuk crushing on Do Bong Soon --- I just "can't even" with him. Too cute for words. They were so cheesy together, but this ahjumma was eating it up. Seriously....this romance is what the show has going for it. But even that is unrealistically done. This show is just fluff....lots and lots of fluff.

The story line is chaotic. There is an evil villain that is just too horrifying to be in a rom-com. It was very jarring to go from sweet romance scenes to a creepy masked kidnapper who is terrorizing young women. And the slapstick antics of the gangsters and the high-school gangsters and the screechy femme planning team leader was funny the first time but became just useless filler that was pretty annoying fast forward material. And a lot of people hated that, although played for laughs, the mom seemed abusive (may be why the writers tried to explain that one away in the final episode.) There were funny parts, sure, but they overplayed their hand with them quite a bit.

The only thing I would rewatch in this show is the moments with Min Hyuk and Bong Soon.

Would I recommend it....sort of. I mean, you'd have to know going in that the story makes no sense, but as a backdrop for a super cute, cheesy beyond belief romance...if you can deal with that then, yeah, go for it. I was entertained for sure (otherwise the rating would be like a 4). But if you need a plot that is logical and a more 'mature' (not THAT kind of mature, but more grown up) romance, then this one won't be right for you.

The production and cast were promising. The storyline was ugly.

Overall this show received a 7.5/10 from me rather because of the production and not the storyline itself. The entire production would receive somewhere between 9-10 points out of 10 from me for a romcom drama like this. The direction was great; the set and props were outstanding; the cast was full of both eye candy and skills that were appropriate for read more each of their role. I have to admit, the cinematography was amazing. It was pretty. It was beautiful.

THE CAST:

I'm never a fan of any of them, but I believe they did a really great job. The set of 3 leads owned their roles. I mean, before I start criticizing the writer's choice of characters (because cutesy and tiny female lead is never my cup of tea), Park Boyoung (Do Bongsoon), Park Hyungshik (Ahn Minhyuk) and Jisoo (In Gookdoo) were the perfect ones for each of their role.

I even believe that the writers wrote this story with Park Boyoung in their mind. Tiny and cutesy role is definitely for her, and she's a good actress as well. This is only my second drama with her, however, and I believe that the next one with her is gonna start boring me a bit. Her tone and acting is just so *her* like she was in Oh My Ghost. This happened to me with Hwang Jungeum in every single drama she was in as well.

Park Hyungshik was also suitable for the role. He's handsome and young. Although this kind of rich and jerky (yet cute) CEO is gonna stick around with him for a long time (because it's almost his real life anyway), it was still fresh to see him. I could never imagine someone else, not even Lee Minho who is handsome and is a veteran actor, for this role at all. Jisoo was great as well. The protective and super manly guy friend who is also a police, what else could you ask for? His serious acting made me believe he cared for Bongsoon for real. His acting and looks are promising. I'd love to see him in a main role one day.

THE STORY:

The story, however, was a strange mix of romance, comedy, supernatural(?), police investigation, and even bloody thriller. How would they mix into a good storyline? There's no way. I believe they needed to take out at least one. If they remove the comedy element, they might get an asian version of Jessica Jones. But then again, they aimed for a super duper cute female lead instead of a fierce-with-a-past kind of girl.

The rhythm/flow/dynamic of this storyline is super strange. It was like an incredibly bumpy road instead of a smooth rollercoaster. The comedy element was almost too forced that it wasn't funny. Some parts were even disgusting that just made me fast-forward throughout the show.

The thriller part started out really strong in the beginning which tipped off the consistent cute and comical tone of the entire Do Bongsoon character. That villain character was just too over-the-top that the entire sub plot around this guy doesn't fit in with the tone of this story at all.

Plus, the entire reason Bongsoon and Hyungshik got together was because *his* case, not the one in her neighborhood. He was being threatened, and that case was solved so easily and quickly. It was definitely just there to bring the two together.

The love story between the two/three leads was boring. Nothing was special. Nothing really developed or had an impact on any characteristic change. It was just there, out of nowhere. I have to admit that they were cute and fluffy together though. They were almost too cheesy together and I usually don't prefer that kind of super cringy stuff, but I believe it helped even out the darker tones regarding the villain.

The plot was very predictable, by the way.

But all in all, I wouldn't keep watching until the end if it wasn't entertaining. Like I said, I liked the cinematography and the cast a lot (surprisingly, given that I'm never a fan of any of them). It was something to watch in my free time and I did take my time to finish it. The bad parts weren't soooo bad that it let me down anyway. At least the first episode started off nicely. If you wanna see for yourself, I don't recommend you against it. I have a reputation for dropping series halfway through if the first few episodes are slow and have too much flashback. This one was fine.

Where the boy sees her doing something (gaming) and falls in interest with her. This is a good feel movie, that has the same love interest feeling like the others. Good Watch, with the same cheesy love.

Both deal with the male lead being in love with the female lead and she falling for him.
Though there are no supernatural elements, and the characters are in high school and not adults. Both have similar in the way the characters fall for one another. I found the movie cute and refreshing, the first I watched it, and while watching this drama, I got the same feeling behind the love story.

Complain away, guys, the story really isn't much (by that I mean it almost doesn't exist to me), the focus was put in weird places, multiple underdeveloped BS, and so on. And I love the whole thing still because I want a relationship like MinBong. My cup of tea is exactly them! :)

finally able to watched after all episodes were out. bad reviews didnt stopped me from finishing this in 2 days lol. forget the ridiculous plot, ji soo is more than enough for me to stick with this. tho it didnt end as i want it to be, still enjoyed every minute of it. not even skipping a second. i dont get why this gets so much hate, maybe they missed the supernatural/fantasy tag. i still think that this is how supernatural drama should be and not like something like scarlet heart which is turns out to be more of political drama. i find it unfair for some people to find fault in its plot and says that story is ridiculous where it clearly states that this is FANTASY and not slice of life drama. 8/10 for enjoyment!

Dropped it after 9 episodes...I got bored by the MC, had a horrible second lead syndrome, and decided to stick to my (strictly) crime dramas instead. OTL I really wanted to like this..

Finally got around to finishing the drama! I really liked the first 6 episodes or so, but afterwards things got increasingly draggy/slow the further along it went which is why I kinda put it off a bit, but I'm glad it picked up again towards the end. Some thoughts:

-Secretary Gong just might be my favorite character here xD
-Min Hyuk has a very lovable personality, Park Hyung Sik suits him very well!
-Despite all the hate he got, I still really like Gook Du.
-He made some lame choices yeah, but honestly this drama was filled with instances of lame choices and bad writing, from maaany characters, so my qualms lay more with the writing than anything. It was almost painfully obvious at times where you could really feel how they were just trying to drag certain plot points further than they should have been lol.
-Too much screentime given to the thugs and such. This kind of humor gets stale quickly if you try to force it too much.
-In general there were many aspects I wished had more focus which ended up glossed over, while parts that I wasn't too interested in got so much focus xD

-Nonetheless, despite all the downsides I did still enjoy this drama and some parts made me laugh/smile a lot!
-I'm also happy that I know about Ji Soo now thanks to this drama :D Will check out some of his other works now. Hope he gets a shot at a main role too sometime!

I watched 6 episodes of this drama, got bored, followed the plot through recaps, watched the stupid finale and thanked god that I didn't waste more time on this crap. I understand that this is meant to be light-hearted (?) and crack, but every joke was somehow connected to poop and the "villains" don't even fit into the plot. The only appeal this drama had was the cast, who were not fully utilized (Jisoo does not deserve this injustice) (I do love Hyungsik though). Anyhow, bad drama.

There's only one word to describe this drama: Disorienting.

The cute fluffy romance overshadowed by the dark criminal theme didn't really manage to mesh well. One second you were watching sometime akin to You Who Came From the Stars and the next minute its a scene from Criminal Minds (a show that really messes with your headspace). And the two did not reconcile well. It was difficult to find joy in the cute romance when the next scene had girls screaming and begging for their lives in the worst conditions imaginable. The drama would have worked better to have a new crime per episode, so you could sort of enjoy it and be intrigued at the same time. I agree with the other comments about the ending scene....what was that???? -__-"

Also I was part of the team of viewers who didn't feel the gangster scenes and just didn't understand why SO MUCH screen time was dedicated to them. I think after episode 6 or 7 I just started to skip them because they were so pointless and lacked any humour. The same slapstick humour was just repeated and was boring. They would have been better off just putting in more scenes with the main leads.

The saving grace for this drama is the chemistry between the two leads, it is very good. And whilst the romance gets overshadowed a lot due to the darker themes, the main leads are so adorable together you can't help but ship them. Also wow Park Hyung Shik is so pretty to look at, such a pretty pretty man. I am interested in seeing Ji Soo in more dramas, I think his acting skills need to be given a bigger role to really stand out.

Watch it for the romance but be forewarned, you will feel really disconcerted throughout the series.

Oh my god, yes! I've been anticipating for this series since its announcement last year so I was quite disappointed with how it turned out. The overall vibe of the show was really confusing and the editing and sequencing didn't help either. The fact that it did make offensive jokes about homosexuality and violence added more negativity on my opinion about the show.

I also agree about the new crime per episode idea. It could have been so much better if there was a new case to divert our attention from the main mystery every week because some episodes didn't have any plot development at all. Other than this, there were still lots of things that frustrated me: incompetent police, stiff second lead and of course, like what you've mentioned, the pointless gangster (and thug-like students) scenes.

Oh yessss the offensive jokes on homosexuality and domestic violence! I know in the last part they cleared that up about the mom hitting the dad thing, but seriously I feel like it was probably due to external pressure rather than what the writers were aiming for. And the way they treated homosexuality in this drama made me so uncomfortable (like when Bong Soo just outs Min multiple times without consulting him, or the over the top one dimensional gay team leader). I'm assuming the writers thought they were being progressive but it was mostly just really cringy.

Imagine if all those pointless thug scenes had been replaced with new crime-per-episode subplots...it would have really shown Bong Soo's development towards someone who fights for real justice rather than what I still ended up viewing her as...someone who is just very very strong.

Thanks for your candid review. I started watching this with a lot of expectations since the ratings were so high, but after the first few episodes I just couldn't stay interested (because of many of your above comments as well as others). I hate dropping a drama--once I begin I like to give it a chance, but this will have to be one of them--at least for now. (I liked the actors in the this drama, just not the storyline.)
