The Bride of Habaek is one of those dramas they could have done so much more with it.

Each character was not used to its full potential. The romance was okay, but it could have been so much more. To me the main plot was never really fully used.

You take the character role of Mu Ra / He Ra. They made her more like a 2 year old spoiled child throwing a tantrum all until the end.

Like I said so many holes so many things they could have done yet didn't. It is really sad because the had an awesome cast .

Would I watch again? yes

Was the music great? love the music it was awesome

Overall I am giving it a 7 mostly because I love the cast and the music.

Looking for an escape from the real world ? Here it is ! You will only love it if you love fairy tales.
A prince charming who is more than a prince "A Water God". Yes ! And a common girl who is struggling in her life. The story created to show a link between people from these 2 different world was interesting.
Acting was fine but could have been better. Amazing music, songs and cinematography. You will be hooked to the story without any second thoughts. Binge Watch Alert !You might end up binge watching.

PS: Do not watch it if you are looking forward for a sensible story. Its a fairy tale !

I went into this drama reading all the negative reviews and was expecting to like the 2nd couple better. I found myself enjoying the Main leads, they made my heart swoon and there is some funny moments. Habaek and his servant navigation in the world was lol.  I've have re-watched their scenes.  Yong Yong....he named her. He bought her a new cup from his PT -Job awww...He rem. her saying that a broken cup is bad luck and he got her new ones. Sooo SWEET!!! He tried to order the water back in the toilet for the bidet hahaha...One of my fav. scenes of is when he came back from the god world with his servants w/the ID's OMG I was on the flr dead.

You can't judge how you'll enjoy a drama base on reviews, take it all with a grain of salt. I would say , Always try it out. It will either click or not. I watch a drama for the "feels" and don't go deep into it. It's my escape (fantasy).

Reply 1997 was highly recommended and I absolutely HATED it! It was soo annoying and the Noble sacrifices. The brother thinking because he likes her and do things for her in a sense she belongs to him.....blaaah...stupid love triangle. I FFW soo much and thinking I would like it because of the high rating it has to be good...nope...

So I got my hands on this because of Krystal. She looked superb in this drama. However, even seeing her pout throughout this series couldn't save it for me. I merely finished this as I had to know the ending bad or nah. This series was another one that gave me a serious case of SLS (Second Lead Syndrome). The best acting was by far from Im Joo Hwan. He gave his character depth and really made people cheer for him in every freaking episode. On the other hand, as adorable as Nam Joo Hyuk is, I was not feeling it. Mind you I have not read the source material, but the stuck up attitude was completely played out by episode 3. I was so D.O.N.E! I was also done with Shin Se Kyung's character portrayal of "I'm a strong independent woman! But completely narcissistic and play the victim card every chance I get." I initially wanted to fight for her. She goes through a lot very quickly and gets saddled with holier than thou Habaek. But then she stays on this materialistic woe is me attitude and doesn't allow THOSE WHO ARE TRYING TO HELP HER TO HELP HER!!! I kept thinking, "girl, give yourself a break and take this opportunity that is handed to you on a freak silver plate!!!" But of course the character is too prideful for that. But begs Habaek every chance she got.

Krystal's Moo Ra tried very hard to be the voice of reason but often her words are fallen on deaf ears. Yeah, you can read it as just jealousy but admittedly the girl as points and can be clear headed at times. This is my first time watching Gong Myung in a drama and he wasn't bad. Bi Ryum was the Loki of the series in the beginning and I wanted to know what he was up too at all times. However, there was a quick turning point that I won't get into.

The rest of the cast was functional. I felt like they tried to develop themselves more but was head back. They were involved and had their own storylines but those lines were forgotten or ignored later.

Overall: There are some hot steaming kissing that will leave you completely unsatisfied. Much like the rest of the story. If you are a Im Joo Hwan fan (new one over here!), then watch only his parts. You'll easily get the rest of the story without wasting much time. If you are head for the adaption, save yourself the trouble!

I had plenty of fun watching this. A fun that some higher up rate dramas didn't gave me. That's why I think it was worthy watching it. It could be better? Maybe it could, I don't know but I have enjoyed it pretty much, never had the urge of dropping it.

The main characters, HaBaek and YoonSo. Loved, loved, loved them. I love the way HaBaek was a wanna-be cold guy, somewhat funny, sometimes naive, I liked the way YoonSo wanted to hide her weaknesses, instead of just being a fragile wreck unlike so many dramas like to portray women. Not all woman are emotional train-wrecks that fall crying like a baby when something happens. She was strong, even though her life was crappish, she kept going, even when everything was falling apart. I loved it about her. It has some realism in it. Out of dramas, in real life, when something bad happens, when a lover goes away, or someone die, your life just keep going, sit and cry like a baby doesn't help,we have to find a way to survive. That's why I liked her so much, if you ever had been in a situation like this, you would understand. Is a very well written character.
Many people say the Shin Se kyung acting was bad. Seriously, I'm very critical about acting, and I can't see why . I mean, her character was supposed to be a strong one, so pardon her if she had not so many desperate crying scenes like so many other dramas, maybe thats why people say it was bad?? (I'm just trying to understand) I Can't see any flaws in her acting.
About NamJoo well, can't say otherwise about him as well. He was portraying an arrogant king god, and he did it well. Let's skip that is always a joy watch his cute face, for so many hours haha x))
From what I could notice, when people see a cold characters, in dramas in general, they take it as bad acting. Ive seen this in so many other dramas and the same happens. You see, when a character is supposed to be cold, not emotional, they gonna show less emotions, naturally. That's not a flaw or bad acting, that's how the character is supposed to be. For what HaBaek was supposed to be, NamJoo did a very good job.

The plot was good enough, if I have to complain about something is this show, it may be a little about the plot. Sure it wasn't a perfect one, but is better than so many plots that I have seen in popular shows everyone likes.
So, overall is a good drama.

Would I recommend this??? Yeah, this show was good, was funny with a cute romance, with good characters.

when the drama was airing, I watched some scenes on youtube and knew it was not my type of drama. two years later, 3 in the morning, I decided to start watching out of simple boredom. and I couldn't stop.

now don't get me wrong, it is BAD, maybe the worst drama that I've seen this year, but the worst it gets the more you want to watch. at some point I thought they were doing it on purpose, no one can make such thing and not realise the quality of it.

the story is a mess.
the acting, horrible
there was no chemistry between the protagonists.
the female lead was annoying and her "tragic" story made her look like a b*tch.
every episode they introduce two new useless supporting characters.
there was that episode with unnecessary and incredibly bad cgi.
the antagonist seemed more like a steven universe villain reject.
and the wigs... THE WIGS.

now if you want a reason to watch: KRYSTAL. yes, her acting was stiff and soulless, but she served looks on every single scene that she was on

I, like so many other people, was so excited for this drama to air. I simply and usually love movie or drama adaptations of manga or manhwa. And for many others and me as well, this series was a big let down.

Unlike many other dramas, this one had a very disappointing beginning of the story, while it progressed into something that I really enjoyed. Believe me, it got soooo much better towards the end. The biggest issue for me were the characters. Was it the acting? Was it supposed to be like that? The actors couldn't act out simple scenes and made me feel quite awkward, actually. Nam Joo Hyuk's acting in particular. I've seen many of his roles before but playing Habaek didn't suit him. Furthermore, let's take a look at the main female character. I hate it when the female lead is presented as weak and as a crybaby. However, with many negative reviews, I wouldn't completely neglect some of the aspects of this drama. The main focus for me was the OST. Aaaand that's why I gave the music a solid 10. The songs were heartfelt and perfect for the drama, kind of reminded me of Goblin's OST.

Overall, the drama isn't as bad as the people review it. Sure, the acting sucked and it was filled with plot holes, but there are many great scenes that filled me with joy. Would I rewatch it? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Sure, for those of you who have seen all of the brilliant romance dramas out there and you have nothing better to watch.

I decided to watch this despite of all negative reviews and comments I've read here at MDL and from different sites. I decided to watch and give it a chance because of one major reason-NAM JOO HYUK!!!!. At the first two episodes I'm kinda (ok.. ok .. give it a chance.. maybe the next episode will be better..)..Then even the next episodes were not good at all I decided to continue watching and patiently waited and hope for the next episodes to give me even the smallest gut feeling that this one isn't that bad as the reviews were saying.. But Until now I'm at Episode 8 and nothing happened.. As in nothing.. Actually beside from bad acting of Shin Se Kyung, The story was terrible!!.. I hated the fact that they made a God(To-be King of The God's) that dumb and powerless, And his main reason actually for being in the human worlds was to find that God Stones and the other Goddesses but I'm very disappointed that until episodes 8 there's nothing special happened in finding that God Stones and in their love story as well, And most of all the tittle was THE BRIDE OF HABAEK.. but until episode 8 what I'm watching is THE SERVANT OF HABAEK!!!. Nam Joo Hyuk's acting was good but it's such a waste because of the terrible storyline and his terrible partner!!.. I Decided to drop this.. Maybe.. just maybe 2 monts from now I'll continue watching it.. but now I'm going to watch different drama just to forget how terrible this one..

Watched it for Habaek and So Ah's Love Story and was satisfied with what I got

Even though it was released back in 2017, I somehow had managed to avoid it so didn't know how it was going to end. I'm not familiar with its source material either so I just enjoyed the drama on its own merit. And it was enjoyable! Saw a number of reviews that wasn't favorable to the plot or to the leads' relationship/chemistry, and I'm glad that I don't really agree with them and that the reviews didn't manage to decrease the enjoyment of the drama for me.

With the drama titled the way it is, for me going in, So Ah and Habaek's love story was the main point for me, and since I like both leads, that wasn't going to be a problem, and anything else would be secondary. And with the way it was set up, I was so scared that it was just going to end in heartbreak and pain and was bracing myself for it. I just saw the beginning of one review that said it was going to have a happy ending and trusted that even when there were moments in the end that created some doubts if that was true. So pleasantly surprise and content that it was a happy ending!

LollyPip's recap & review on dramabeans raised a good point that I really agree with, that Habaek and So Ah made each other better versions of themselves, but didn't fundamentally change who they were at the core. That's why I like their relationship and root for their love.

Habaek was still the haughty, arrogant Water God, destined King of all the Gods at the end of the drama, but whereas he was so apathetic when we first meet him in the Gods Realm at the beginning, he had softened during his time with So Ah. He was able to be vulnerable with her, showed how much he loved her, showed how much he appreciate everything that Nam Soo Ri, his servant, did for him, showed an understanding and care for humans that maybe he'd buried after the betrayal of his first human love interest.

Similarly, So Ah, with Habaek's influence in her life, also became more vulnerable or more willing to show her vulnerability. She had been so prickly and tried to be mean-spirited so she wouldn't get hurt at the start, so unwilling to show that she cared for people because of how tied her association of compassion was with her resentment for father, who to everyone else had seemed so compassionate but to her had seemed so uncaring. So Ah had been very much "I can do everything myself and I don't need anyone," but then Habaek showed up and forced himself into her life. Suddenly, there was someone there who saw when she was scared and tired, even when she was so very good at hiding herself behind a mask of indifference. Someone who promised to protect her and make sure she's not harmed, and then fulfilled that promise over and over. Someone who offered out a hand for her to take and lean on, who cooked for her, who spent a Saturday deep cleaning her house with her, who waited for her and walked with her home after work, who worked his first lowly human job for money to buy her a gift (and be so adorably proud of it after), who made sure he came back with a driver license not because he felt like he needed one to drive but because it would make her feel more comfortable to know that he was driving with a license, who reminded her that she can be vulnerable and show her emotions.

Habaek and So Ah both learned to be more human because they were in each other lives, and I'm all for it. Sure, there were elements that I wished were explored more, but overall, it was a satisfying drama that I'm glad I found.

I don't even know what to say about this...it was horrible! A lot of people hated and even couldn't finish it, I even pass the final episodes, it was really boring. We were so excited for this drama, because: Nam Joo Hyuk was back, the drama was from manga that has a very well story, Krystal was a part of the cast and the director told that "The bride Of Habaek" was similar to the popular drama "Goblin". Whatever the drama disappoint me. Since the first to the last episode everything was boring, "dead comedy" and a messy. The main couple have no chemistry, I felt absolutely nothing when I saw the two of them together. I din't like the girl, I didn't see her emotions thoug the drama. What is a pity because the story it's pretty good and I really liked the ost.

To be honest, when I came across this series, i was really excited to watch it, I saw the cast and I felt to eager to start this series. However upon watching it, I didn't really feel as excited. everyone has their own expectations, when they read the description of a drama, so i feel like you shouldn't base, whether you watch something on a review, so you can just take into account other people's views. So honestly speaking for me, this drama is something I probably won't re-watch. I feel like this drama had sooo much potential, the cast was appealing and the story seemed appealing but for some reason, i think the comedy aspect of it, kinda spoiled it. It was funny and amusing at times, but when the series started to get more intense, i couldn't take it seriously. I love the actor who played the role of Habaek but i felt as though he was trying too hard, to give off a 'godly' king-like presence. However overall it wasn't too bad. A series like this would be good for a rainy day, when your bored, and you have time to binge watch it, it would be quite cosy to have popcorn or some snacks and watch this.

This drama really frustrated me. It had so much potential but sadly it didn't turn out all so well.

The Story:
The story itself is really interesting and had a lot of potential. Sadly it didn't turn out the way I hoped it would. The story was no existent throughout most of the drama. There was no big drama, not much story at all and no plot twists. The story the drama tried to convey was really light and nothing really interesting as also a lot of things didn't make sense and were unrelatable and characters sometimes acted in ways that didn't fit. Especially the first two episodes were really dragged out and for the most people properly pretty boring. However, I can say that the light romance it portrayed was easy to watch and somewhat enjoyable to me.

The characters:
A lot of the side characters were pretty useless in this drama and they were used mostly to fill the episodes. The other characters didn't have much depth and we don't get to know much about their history either and if we do then they spend really little time on it and then later in the drama act like nothing happened. However, some characters go through a decent amount of character development.
In my eyes, the characters were annoying from time to time as they acted irrational or didn't stand up for themselves but that is really subjective.

The acting:
The acting was ok if I look at the whole drama but especially in the beginning it was hard to watch. While some improved throughout the drama, others just really did a bad job in fitting into the role. Especially the chemistry between the actors was really bad, to say the least. Im Joo Hwan was the only one who really stood out with his performance and gave the drama somewhat of a story.

The music:
The music was hands down the best thing about this drama. It fitted the situations really great and underlined the emotions portrayed by the actors.

Conclusion:
Don't go into the drama expecting too much. This is a drama that has many flaws and if you expect it to be perfect or to have an intense story this is definitely not the right drama. If you want some light romance or a drama that is easy to watch with some pretty faces and great music then this might be right for you. I also recommend not reading the manga before watching the drama as many people were even more disappointed because the drama is actually really different from the manga. I certainly kinda enjoyed it while it lasted because it was just easy to watch, nothing serious. Would I rewatch it though? No.
