The series is based on the Japanese shojo manga "Zettai Kareshi" by Watase Yu.
Manga Synopsis - Riiko (in the drama Guan Xiao Fei) is a girl unlucky in love. One day a strange-looking salesman gives her a business card for a website that sells "love figures" (androids designed for love-making). On the spur of the moment and without really understanding the implications, Riiko orders her perfectly made man for a 3-day read morefree trial, actually not realizing that after the trial she either has to pay an awfully big amount of money or return the robot. It so happens, that she actually starts liking the robot for real, naming him Night.
She has a best friend, who is secretly in love with her...
So here start the strange adventures of these 2 people...

I've seen most of the actors in other taiwanese dramas and so I ventured to watch this one mostly for Jiro. The only thing that was wrong with this version is Koo Hye Sun's acting. I loved her in Boys Before Flowers and liked her but this character or maybe her acting was just unbearable. her over the top expressions were a killer. I wasn't expecting much but I;ve seen the Japanese read more Version. I have also seen Jiro's acting and he was doing a good job in this. I gave up for the second time. This not even Jiro or the rest of the actors could save for me. I didn't even mind the dubbing but her acting was just bad.

It took me a while to decide to watch this drama and based on the reviews I thought it was going to be a lot better then what it was.

The upside to it is it's a good story and it gives you a lot of warm fuzzy feelings while watching it and you fall in love with the characters, especially Night.

The downside is if you're looking for a happy ending read more I would suggest looking elsewhere. I personally could of seen the ending go many different ways, but it left me feeling sad and empty and slightly disappointed more than anything.

The other downside is Hye Sun's voice is dubbed over and it was REALLY annoying at first but you got used to it towards the end.

In the end it's a good drama but I wouldn't say it's a must see unless you're a fan of Jiro Wang like myself. He was the only reason I watched this and continued it till the end.

Both dramas have the lead roles creating a perfect Artificial Intelligence partner in a quest for love. However, the final ending may differ.

It's the Taiwanese drama version (with a korean as the lead actress)

Goo Hye Sun ruined a lot of series for me but this one would've been a flop even without her..and that's too bad as I really like the manga.

i don't get why so many ppl are annoyed by ku hye sun been the lead girl, there are many chinese and taiwanese dramas where you see korean leads and most ppl are fine with it, but i see so many criticism for ku hye sun, i don't get why, since she is such a great actress , i guess she just has haters, she was perfect for the show! and she nailed it, that's why i rated it 9.5/10, if it wasn't for the too sad ending, i would give it a 10 :b

the lead girl was not good but jiro wang saved the show. i really loved his acting here but def wouldnt have been better if another actress got the role. i have to give credit to hye sun because she did well during the last few episodes however her cutesy stuff annoyed the hell out of me maybe she fits more in melodramas not romcoms.

It could be the fake voice though. I like her acting a lot, but the annoying voice did not suit her at all. That's why sometimes it made it awkward, because original she speaks Korean.

They made the lead girl dumb...really dumb. She's so dumb, the village idiot resigned and joined Mensa. She's annoying.

FYI, this is now on HULU! & omg, it is sooo cringeworthy lool, only seen the first ep so far, not sure if I can handle the rest tho I'd like to mainly just out of ~curiousity.. if only they didn't have such a tendency to exaaggerate eeverything (seemingly for "humourous" effect.. talk about FAiL!) & if the lead girl wasn't the whiniest baby ever! Oyy.. the boys ~are cuute tho, haha (of course) so at least there's that ;P

ETA @ 10/26: 3 eps in & the chars are totally growing me, I'm so ~easy LOL pfft! Night is of course ~adorable, & when Xiao Fei isn't whining, she's actually quite cuute, lmao.. but the scene stealer is definitely "Asian! Alan Cumming", he cracks me up sooo much! (well, he's kind of a mix btwn AlanC & Martin Short, which if you're at all famil with those actors, their characters tend to be just as kooky / odd / weird as this one, rotfl)

PS. An even better twist on the story would be if Mr Perfect fell for the neighbor boy.. lol, or if they could all live happily ever after in a cozy lil OT3 of domestic bliss.. siighh <3

Would also like to note that despite the ~intended purpose of the "perfect lover" (being a physical relationship without consequences/etc), such a companion would be truly perfect for someone who craves the same emotional intimacy but without the burden or pressure of having to fulfill those kind of physical needs, ie for those who are just fine w/o all that kind of stuff, etc. If only a "soulmate" was as simple as an online order away, eh? xD

lol well I don't really "hate" ~her exactly, but the ~way she is written to totally OVERACT every single emotion & reaction, it's just beyond ridiculous & the way that the writers make her think about things is so ~illogical lol & actually, as I've progressed thru the series, I've seen the same style of bad writing happen to the boys too so it seems that they're not immune to it either, lol; but yes, the actors themselves are all good & doing the best with the material they have <3

I'm curious, were there no other actresses that could have been Xiaofei? Like... maybe one that spoke the language for example? This is worse than watching an entire movie that's completely dubbed....

Only making a guess but maybe it was for popularity reasons? It's like.. Park Hae Jin acting in Chinese series and the dialogues are dubbed anyway. Don't know, maybe Korean actors, especially if they were part of popular series like Boys Over Flowers or You Who Came From The Stars , are only added to the cast to make the drama more well-known. It's completely unnecessary (and somehow stupid) though

I'd recommend watching it for the cute plot:), Jiro Wang, some very fun scenes, and not to forget the music which suits really well this drama.

I just finished watching this. Don't get me wrong, I like Koo Hye Sun, but I HATED the dubbing voice for her, the lip sync was totally off and her mouth would not move when there were lines. It must have also been difficult for the cast to communicate with her and act with her. This drama followed the manga, but I wish people would also check out the manga and Jdrama before judging Night. I didn't like the pronunciation or the subbing of Night (Nai Te), that irked me the most while watching. Jiro acted very well for Night, very believable but I still prefer the manga version of Night, as Night is more capable than how Jiro portrays him to be. I hope I don't sound too harsh on the actors & actresses... Please everyone else, READ THE MANGA AND WATCH THE JAPANESE VERSION!! Overall, this drama was very good and did follow the manga, which is a bonus!

Let me start off by stating that I almost dropped this drama due to Koo Hye Sun "cute & perky" acting and dubbing (I didn't like her in BOF either) but Jiro (beautiful eye candy) helped me ignore her. She wasn't as annoying towards the end and now I'm glad I completed this drama. I absolutely love the ending! It's sad, yet bittersweet, for the main couple but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I totally recommend if you like Jiro Wang, he perfectly portrayed this character. It was a good thing Wu Chun dropped the role for his buddy since it was so fitting for Jiro. The man looks like he was carved out of stone! Jiro also lends his voice to two addicting songs on the accompanying soundtrack. The rest of the songs are equally beautiful.

Now that I know how this story plays out, I'm hoping a Korean version will be produced with T.O.P. as the male lead. I would have a non-stop nosebleed!
