STORY:
Love the story and the way the movie was directed!
The only thing that bothered me was that they didn't explain exactly why the culprit targeted those particular people, who ended up becoming his victims. That's why I gave this a 9.5 instead of 10.
Other than that, everything else was perfect. The movie had my attention the whole time!
There were several plot twists in the movie, most of them being unpredictable I guess. But if you've watched a lot of crime/mystery movies, you might be able to predict some. ;)

CAST/ACTING:
Brilliant! The whole cast did an excellent job...especially Fujiwara Tatsuya! He played his role brilliantly. ♡♡

MUSIC:
I didn't pay extra attention to the music but I noticed that it kept the atmosphere of the movie very suspenseful and messed up. So I think it suited the movie very well.

REWATCH VALUE:
It's definitely interesting enough to rewatch, although the excitement might be somewhat less since we already know what to expect.

This is a clever mystery movie with a nice cinematic feel, charismatic characters thrown into passionate confrontations, and not overly complicated plot.

Whether one considers Fujiwara Tatsuya a king of overacting or an acting titan, one must admit that he is recognised inside the industry as a definitive performer of the villain roles. After all, he meets all the requirements: his presence always looms large despite his small stature and his low voice is perfect both for enticing others to the dark side and for instilling fear in the hearts of his enemies. Violet prose aside, it takes little effort to imagine Fujiwara petting a white persian cat while torturing the most recent Bond incarnation.

The villain of this movie, in particular, seems to be tailored for Fujiwara. The character is handsome, smug, intelligent, and violent. The viewer is ready to cheer his downfall yet can't help but wonder if something else is going on with this murderer.

Other characters including the male lead played by Ito Hideaki are similarly charismatic. Moreover, the Korean origins of the material lend unexpected passion to the characters and tension to the conflicts. Japan is a country with a very low crime rate so the idea that upon learning that law enforcement failed to capture the criminal (which is already outrageous) the victims' relatives will take justice in their own hands is quite bizarre. So it's rarely encountered in J-dramas. In this movie, not only the themes of revenge, corruption, and helplessness are touched upon, the characters act in a more dramatic manner than the expected norm.

This passion makes for entertaining confrontations. I'd argue they are the main attraction of the movie. Indeed, while the plot is suitably unpredictable (and has several nice touches for mystery connoisseurs), it is not ground-breaking. Moreover, the story is a bit dated and has the expected dose of sexism and heavy-handed moralizations.

While Fujiwara did receive the best actor nomination at the Japanese Academy Awards for his role in this movie, the movie itself is best enjoyed not as a serious drama but as a classic dark mystery that features charismatic characters thrown into passionate conflicts and nice sleek cinematography. The scene of the final confrontation, in particular, seems to be heavy on the fanservice.

Ugh. Sorry but I can't stop myself from comparting this and the original version. I loved the Korean movie and I strongly prefer it.

The truth is, Confession of Murder is all about its plot twist. The plot twist is what makes the movie actually good. And watching the Japanese remake knowing about the plot twist, was not the best decision. If you know the truth behind everything, you don't feel excited at all. I was just bored but was still curious if they'll add anything more to the original story.

And they did, they added a plot twist to the plot twist, lmao. Not a good idea, it was actually ridicuous and totally unnecessary. The movie felt so long and they even add more stuff. Actually the overall pace was kind of slow.

The acting was good though, which is one of the reasons why this movie wasn't THAT bad after all. Ito Hideaki did an amazing job. As for Fujiwara Tatsuya, he was decent. Honestly I remember the killer being more of a psycho, he made every scene hella intense, at least that's how Park Shi Hoo portrayed him in the original version. Fujiwara Tatsuya was a the colder, calmer version.

The directing was amazing and there's this one thing that was done better in this version - the revelation at the end. It was more intense and I loved it.

It's a decent watch, though I wouldn't recommend it if you've seen the Korean original movie, because as I said, it will be less exciting.

[WARNING: the rating and review I give have the possibility to be subjective due to my preference for the genres, scenes or casts]

I feel a little sorry because I didn't watch this movie earlier. This movie is really great! There's a twist plot! I really love the movie with a twist plot in it (^_^) And the story is dark yet heavy, but there’s also sweetness in there. I love the movie with something I need to think of XD The storyline is great, the play is great too. Nothing more I can say, this movie is great (^_^)
