A love story about a depressed genius music composer Kang Han Gyeol who meets the high school student Yoon So Rim when he’s living under a hidden identity. With her courageous honesty and beautiful singing, So Rim draws Han Gyeol back to her again and again. They meet love obstacles along the way as So Rim found out that Han Gyeol was actually Crude Play's producer K and others.

Story
The story was slow paced & really boring. It did progress, but it progressed quite slowly which was a drop for me. There wasn't even much of a story. I usually do love music genre dramas but this one didn't intrigue or interest me in any way which was disappointing. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't find myself to sadly.

Acting/Cast
As many know, Joy is from read more Red Velvet and this was her first drama. I didn't really have any high expectations because I do know some Kpop idols aren't really experienced in acting. Joy, however, she was quite decent/average in her role. I don't get the hate that was being thrown at her for her "rubbish" acting - It wasn't that bad. Lee Hyun Woo was also adorable in his role. The problem was the chemistry between the two main leads. I didn't find the bond exciting or anything, it was merely boring and unrealistic.

Music
The OSTs for this drama are really sweet to listen to. I just finished the drama & I will definitely download them. I guess for me, this was the only good thing about the drama itself.

Rewatch Value
I hardly rewatch dramas unless they were exceptionally excellent. So in this case, I definitely won't.

Overall
If you are struggling whether to watch this drama or not, I'll say give 1 or 2 episodes a try. If you don't like it, I suggest dropping it because it doesn't get better. But if you do like it, keep going! Don't let my review discourage some of you because everyone has different tastes :)

Hope my review helped! x

Go in with low expectations and you will be pleasantly surprised. This drama is a relatively light watch that is easy on the eyes and ears.

As someone who hasn’t read the source material I can’t really comment on how this drama lines up. It did well to get so far with a limited amount of plot. At times the writing feels a little awkward but not enough to stop watching.

I read more liked that compared to the Japanese movie the main couple were closer in age and by the end So Rim was an adult.

The cast were very attractive and did surprisingly well with the script they were given.
I didn’t feel that there was much chemistry between the two leads, fortunately the friendships within the bands and the secondary couple make up for this.

The most enjoyable part of this drama is the music and the relationships between the characters. I found the songs would get stuck in my head for a few days after watching.

All in all a reasonably enjoyable show to watch with catchy tunes.

- Similar plot with MJ and Crude Play
- Main lead is a song writer
- I like the romance in both but TLHL has more sweet romance scenes

Well, because of the subject of trot music in both of dramas. Joy is known that she sings trot music.

why does everyone hate chan yeong?!?!? I think his character is so good and i feel so sorry for him :( he's just struggling to find a place to fit in, id be angry at everyone and everything if i went through that too.
but anyway JIN WOO IS SO FUNNY he's becoming my absolute favourite xDDDD
the whole cast for this is really well done -- even the crude play boys have such amazing on screen bromance!! and han kyeol's dad is an amazing actor.
love itttttt ill be sad when this ends T_T

Totally agree with you. The way he acts it's simply a reaction to everything that has happened to him, and also, I don't get it why people say he's an asshole to Han Gyeol since in the movie his character is not close to any of the Crude Play members, and this is because they never really let him in

In the Japanese source material he wasn't that close either, but that isn't the point. In the source material the character is more independent and stronger. Had a lot of depth. Wasn't a whiny, woe is me, the world is out to get me type of character. I don't like what the Kdrama has done with the character just for the sake of a cliche love triangle.

Tbh I haven't read the manga or watched the Japanese movie so I have nothing to compare it too - maybe everyone who read the source material are the ones who think he doesn't live up to what he could be haha. From just the kdrama perspective though I think he's relateable!!!!

For me the way they changed Han Gyeol's personality annoys me more, all the depth and conflicts his original character had are either gone or treated superficially...
But I knew since the beginning the characters wouldn't be the same, as any korean adaptation, so I'm not so attached to that

With every episode Chan Yeong becomes more annoying! I want to punch that guy..... jeeeez!

This drama can get really annoying at times and to be honest, most of the time the acting is not good, but why do I still like this drama?

For me, it's because of Lee Hyun Woo.

I think he's actually one of the best things in this drama. The reason I continue watching is because of him and Lee Jung Jin. I also like the father story.

Going alright so far. Wish it were more interesting. Has definitely veered far away from the manga source material. The story has changed completely besides the HS trio debuting. And I really hate what the Kdrama has done to the equivalent Chan Yeong character in the manga.

Chan Yeong's character in the manga was so much more interesting and had a lot of depth. He was also a strong character and talented. The Kdrama seems to have given Chan Yeong the talent to be great at bass, but suck at everything else. And turned him into a petty, jealous, annoying character that wants whatever isn't his. The Kdrama appears to have butchered that character just for the sake of a love triangle cliche.

You're absolutely right. They could have made Chan Yeong character grow musically but instead they ruined his good traits and made him pathetic, pushy and evil minded.

I always love music and romance in dramaland so I'm really enjoying this one. Actually it would be perfect to have more episodes to give more scenes to other characters, I find all of them very interesting.
I'm so curious about this "love hate" between Soo-yeon and Shi-hyun, and I like Han Gyul's father's story as well.

I kinda like this adaptation. Main reason is how they show backside of entertainment world in Korea.
All thous things about fights and intrigues behind that shiny mask.
Path of young talents to scene what looks from outside so fairytale like is actually filled with sacrifices and hurts.

Other thing what i like is how creators have solved minor-adult relationship. Actors are chosen very fiting by looks - female is mature looking and male is very young looking /RL age difference isnt big too/ so romance of their characters looks natural for audience. and doesnt make you go "ewww!" in bit more intimate scenes. same time male character doesnt look too immature...even if he is from inside.
One thing what happens to young people in ent. world - with work they must grow up very fast and they are professionals already in very young age but their social side outside work .....is supressed.
They are controlled with whom they socialise and how. No dating and loss of old friends - we all know it already. Young people arent ready that with their rising into fame people around them change a lot, That situations what were natural before are now dangerous and can lead to loss of their dreamed future.

All thous backside details are what i like in this drama, main story is nice and fluffy. I hope they create fitting ending to it.
This drama is made for young actors to get started in drama world or get some more drama experierence, so i dont expect very deep rolemakings but i expect good directing and writing. so far this side is ok.

The drama hasn't finished airing yet. But so far the drama's veered onto it's own path, so it's unlikely.

No one will know until it airs....Keep in mind the movie was done back in 2013. The manga has had dozens of new installments over the last 4 years and the writer has yet to give the story an ending.
