Star next door is okay for a movie with comedy parts, but I wouldn't call it a comedy. The mother daughter dynamics were more like older younger sister dynamics, as the celebrity didn't act as a mother. Rather she was immature and kind of irrational at first. Things got better towards the end, though they didn't give us a full explanation on why everything happened back then. Also, at first, it was hard to understand that the celebrity in question was the girl's mother and not her sister or something. But, overall, it was enjoyable.

The Star Next Door is a fun movie with plenty of nonsense to keep you watching. Its story and characters are straightforward and by the end of the movie, you feel as though they've learned their lessons.

The focus of this movie is very much on the mother (Han Chae Young) and her journey to taking responsibility for her daughter. This was the first time I saw Han Chae Young act and she was fine - the script didn't really require much from her. Jin Ji Hee's character, on the other hand, could've been better. Most of the time her problems felt superficial, I believe this was because the movie told rather than showed Ji Hee's character's issues with her mother. Not to mention she never sympathized with her mother. As for the support characters...they were fine. I was surprised to find Seulong here and in such a role but he was by far the most likable character in this movie.

Overall this movie is fun and simple but I won't be rewatching any time soon. I liked the story they were trying to tell but it was clear that it followed an established format and didn't bother to do anything new or interesting with its talented cast.

Heartfelt movie and the plot is easy to grasp

This movie made me cry a lot. It's very touching and the simplicity made it easier to relate. This is a really good family movie although I can't really consider it as a comedy.

What I love the most about this movie is how the cast delivered the story really well. I had no doubts on Jin JinHee and Han ChaeYeong because they're actually the reason I watched this movie in the first place. They are both versatile actresses and I really love them.

The story itself is quite predictable and can be considered as cliché. Some parts are also questionable because it's obvious that it was added in attempt to put more flavors in the plot. But the emotions of a mother and daughter longing for each other is there. It was pretty realistic and it portrayed a mom and daughter relationship that seems to be more sister-like. It kind of reminds me my mom because this is exactly how I portray our relationship as mother and daughter.

Overall, this is an addition to the lists of Korean movies that I can personally recommended because I seriously loved it.

Perfect for a light-hearted family movie night. But too predictable for a deeper impact.

It was an adorable family movie where we got a look at the bonds between a grandmother, mother, and daughter as the tension that has been building up for 15 years finally "explodes" (as one of the characters puts it). They were all extremely well acted, and I found myself really wanting to cry right along with Han Chae Young (the mother), and even some scenes with Jin Ji Hee (the daughter).

The problem though, is that none of this felt new per se. It was incredibly predictable, and the stage was all set from the very beginning. Nothing really came as a surprise plot-wise. Same with the characters. Even while editing tags, there wasn't really anything that could be considered a spoiler, because we know it all from the beginning. And the ending felt either uninspired or with insufficient lead-up. And this wasn't a "funny, ha ha" type of comedy, but rather comedic attempts that kept the film from feeling too heavy. Or perhaps it's the simple type of comedy that appeals to kids.

That all being said, I greatly enjoyed the transition from a sister-like bickering to "nagging" mom mode that the film goes through. The teenager - moody, annoying, and a bit brainless - was very realistically written (I say coming from someone with a younger sister), while still remaining sympathizable. And the overall message of the film was wholesome and touching. A great film for a light-hearted watch with the family.
