Hardworking Geum Jan Di attends the exclusive Shinhwa High School by a scholarship she gets because of an incident. She finds her shallow, privileged classmates unbearable, especially the notorious F4. Rich, handsome, and arrogant, Goo Jun Pyo, Yoon Ji Hoo, So Yi Jung, and Song Woo Bin are the kings of the school and no one, not even the teachers, dare challenge them. No one, that is, except Jan Di. Angry at read moretheir rudeness, Jan Di tells off F4 leader Jun Pyo, bringing a world of trouble upon herself. Although Jun Pyo persists on bullying her, he begins to find himself attracted to Jan Di.

Boys over flowers is like the "must see" in k drama world. This is probably the most famous k drama ever, and the first k drama for a lot of people, and that's why we -somehow- love this drama although it isn't actually a good one.

The story is just a big WTF! to me, really... and it doesn't always make sense. But incredibly it is still a catchy story lol, this read more is what BOF is, it somehow hooks you up, but deep inside of you, you know that what you're watching is not good at all.

The acting is just BLEH! although I love Lee Min Ho and now is one of my favorite actors, in BOF he wasn't as good as he is now... it wasn't a terrible acting but it wasn't a good one either... Same for Koo Hye Sun, she's good at dramatic scenes and crying and suffering but she lacks emotion in other scenes like kisses or funny moments and etc...

F4: oh boy! the eyecandy in this story has a 10/10 these four Asian boys doing whatever they want with your feelings and looking hot while they're destroying your heart haha it's just asdfghjk...

And probably what makes this drama a "must see" and a famous one is Yoon Ji Hoo (Kim Hyun Joong) BOF probably has the worst and saddest second lead syndrome ever! REALLY... even if you don't ship JanDi with JiHoo the drama still makes you feel terribly sad about JiHoo's life (a terrible and lonely one) omg! my heart still aches when I remember...

Despite of all that BOF is a very rewatchable story... if you want to cheer up, or cry like crazy or just remember or see hot Asian boys gathered in one drama, just go to BOF. :)

If I could some this drama up in one word it would be 'meh'. Boys before flowers isn't that special, it was kinda disapointing to be frank. Yes the actors were brilliant but the storyline lacked spark.

I'll start with the storyline, it was ok at the beginning and good through the middle but the end was an anti-climax and a half. The ammount of cliches in this show is annoying, I've read more seen it all before. I haven't seen any other adaptions of this show and since watching Boys Before Flowers I don't think I will. It was average at best.

However the actors in this show, particulary Lee Min Ho and Kim Hyun Joong were awesome. Each and every emotion was potrayed brilliantly and had this show a better storyline it would have easily got a ten. I liked the different styles of acting and personalities that each character brought, even the minor ones. Plus they're all nice eye candy.

The music in this show made it worth watching. I loved the soundtrack and plan to buy every song that I possibly can from it. A nice mix of classical and pop that fitted each mood. Very very good music in this show.

In the end I would reccomend watching it so long as your not one of those people who like to pick wholes in every detail. Its easy-going and makes for an enjoyable watch. But it's not life-changing or addictive. And you probably won't watch it again.

Make a Recommendation More recs (57)Recommendations

It has kinda he same plot with a poor girl and a rich guy falling for each other and the family coming in between the two of them. This drama is definitely much better that The Heirs since it's got a more concrete plot and less loopholes in the story.

The music i gong to keep you hooked and the story will make you smile and laugh and cry and sigh and get angry and just feel a lot of things.

It's a highly recommended series.
The unpopular girl at school grabs the attention of the popular boy at school.
Though different plots, its a similar look at how one is seem inferior in the relationship.

For some annoying reason, the "Watch Latest Episodes" section on the right of my MDL page is ALWAYS just full of BOF episodes. THE ENTIRE LIST, DAY AFTER DAY. Is there any flipping way to fix this problem? The drama is long from "new"!

I loved this drama the first time I watched it, but I can't enjoy the drama now since Kim Hyun Joong is in.

I've seen the Japanese, the Taiwanese and the Korean version. I even read all manga chapters, and watched all anime episodes.
The Japanese one is without a doubt the best (The Taiwanese the worst). I've rewatched it five or six times. However, the Korean version has the pretty faces and a little bit more cheesiness... which is also really really nice. Yes, it is not as funny as the Japanese one. but it's still nice to watch (even multiple times), and as a huge fan of SS501 I completely enjoyed it.
It is certain that Boys Before Flowers is the perfect drama for beginners. So if you want to get into Korean stuff, you should start with this one.

I agree the Japanese version is the best, story and character wise. The Taiwanese is the oldest so lower quality but the story is the closest to the manga (which was still ongoing at the time).
K version had the best visuals IMO. They're the ones who really looked indecently rich and their pretty faces closest to what F4 was supposed to be.

So many haters. For better or for worse, this was where it all started for me. This drama completely won me over. Since it was my first, I knew nothing about the kdrama cliches or tropes. I watched it purely innocently and it completely enthralled me. I fell completely in love with JanDi and her can do spirit. She stole my heart and I don't know if she ever gave it back. This little sweet, modest means gal completely dismantled the aristocrat-like, chaebol rich elite and completely changed everything. I could go on and on dissecting why it is so charming, but some get it some don't. Being my first, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

This drama is not really perfect but admit it or not this is one of the reason why Kdramas became so popular. When I didn't started to watch dramas yet, I always heard about BOF. Tbh, I like this drama so much.

    I don't like this drama.
I saw because this drama had many positive comments and many were saying that it's the best version.
    I prefer Hana yori dango!

I think half of the asian drama fans would like to disagree with you since it's too many people's first drama and it didn't make them regret it or hate k-dramas for that matter!

Well this was my first KDrama ever, it all started with it . To be honest , it isn't a great one, but it is a must see . You are not gonna be able to watch it if you are an old KDrama fan . It is gonna be way too boring for you. But if you are new, you better start with this one :D

He isn't that important in the plot you know xD Just focus on the other guys, it s a must-Watch because it's a Classic, not because it's one of the best dramas out there (in my opinion it's definitely not!)

This drama wasn't the best. I got bored wanted to skip but held on to the 5th episode but I gave up. The f4 wasn't that good looking and the story should've been convincing too. If you really want want to watch something better watch, let's watch meteor shower. It's a better story and the story is similar but the actors are better looking and there is no bad acting.

The reason this kdrama was a big hit was bc in 2009 kdrama was not as great as it is now that why i really liked this drama in 2009. Ofcourse if you watch this now you probably you won't like it bc kdrama changes so in 2016 there it ofcourse better dramas.

I always hesitate to start watching this drama. After reading the manga, which is more more deep, both the anime and the jdrama Hana Yori Dango, did not seem to do it justice, and this one is no exception.
But I have to say I really enjoyed this version, even more than the japanese one, maybe because I was a fan of Hanazawa Rui.
It isn't the best drama in the world, but if you're a fan of HYD you definitely have to watch this.
The story is quite different, the acting is decent, and the music is awesome.
Love Kim Hyun Joong's acting, he played Yoon Ji Hoo's character perfecly. He could express so much even without words, how he laughed, cried, the way he looked at her...
His song "Because I'm Stupid" is one of my favourite drama songs, as well as "Something Happen To My Heart"

There were just a few good things in this drama, kim hyun joong. He always showed an adorable character, and the couple kim bum and kim so eun. you can watch this drama, if you want to see the main characters that keep fighting and she doesn't know what to do and not to do..
