So this is basically like a Romeo and Juliet story of China as this is apparently a very famous wuxia tale there (I didn’t know this when I first watched it. If only someone had warned me I would have avoided it since I don’t like Romeo and Juliet either due to its tragic nature). Contrast to Romeo and Juliet though, it ends on a happy note. This drama is an adaptation read more of one of Jin Young's famous tales (probably his most tragic one with pitch fork tragic events that I cant stand and a major plot point that is dragged on to frustrating levels).

There have been various adaptations in anime, movies and tv series but this drama has the best quality so far production wise, and follows this interestingly addictive pitch fork tragic tale closely. Personally this isnt a story/drama Id recommend to anyone (unless its someone youd like to torture >:] ) because although it an awesome martial arts story and ends on a somewhat happy note, the journey through so many tragic plots was just too depressingly unbearable for me. The show is filled exceptional actors making it even harder not to take things too personally/seriously. Perhaps if your already familiar with the story you might be able to stand it but I still wouldn’t recommend that you watch it.

Consider this a disclaimer/ warning that I only wish someone gave me saying, watch this at your own risk. This drama is comparable to the drama Chuno so if you could watch and enjoy that then you might enjoy this as my sentiments in this mirror almost exacly my sentiments in Chuno.

Honestly, the only reason I watched the drama was for the wuxia choreography. The story itself is really awful.

I absolutely loved this one. Starring amazing actors, this will get you on your heels.

Both tell the same (kind of) story but the 2006 version is soooooo much better! Liu Yi Fei as Xiao Long Nu is an infinitely better choice of casting than that Michelle girl. The 2006 version is so heartfelt and addicting and Huang Xiao Ming (especially in the later episodes) is the perfect man for Yang Guo.

Huang Xiao Ming and Liu Yi Fei... that's like a combo of overacting x underacting lol. Both are gorgeous without doubt though

Expecting something else, and getting a comedy? Not to my taste. Love these type of drama, not feeling this one at all.

#1 reason to watch this version above all others, they picked the best cast for Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu. This spoken by a fan of the novels.

It's not rly a drama to appeal to the modern age. It's one of those legends that is part of a lot of people's childhood. If you ask any asian(chinese), they've probably say this is their childhood. There's been so many remakes cuz we buy it. Even tho the plot is dumb n same, we still watch it jst to judge n bring back great memories. Let's jst enjoy it.

Really love this version of Return of Condor Heroes. Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu are very pretty and handsome, they huv such a great chemistry. When Xiao LongNu fights with her long white dress, it is very pretty. YangGuo's character is interesting too. I hope Liu YiFei does more Wuxia dramas coz she really looks great in Wuxia costumes. She has that goddess look. As for Huang Xiao Ming, he's been doing projects very often.

Good that I read these comments before watching (thanks everyone). Otherwise it would have been just too frustrating. Hate it when protagonists create 80% of the problems for themselves on their own. But since I already new it was gonna be a "pointless cycle of parting and reunion", it ended up being watchable, and I still have all my hair in place. :) And considering that beside the plot line everything else was really well done - fights, adventures, etc. - it was an enjoyable ride!

Long'er leaving guo'r is indeed really frustrating. So much things also happen accidentally, it's almost funny. This is still one of my first drama's and overall I enjoyed the show.

I have to disagree with those who enjoyed this drama, as I certainly didn't. I was so disappointed, especially after the whole hype and promotion so I had high expectations. However, the cinematography is stunning, the cast beautiful to look at. But the acting is mediocre at best, soundtrack is mostly rip-off of other shows and execution of the plot poor, not to mention the love story which is actually only a circle of parting-reunion without a point.
A shame, as it had potential. 3/10 at best.

This series really is a pointless circle of parting and reunion. I'd give it a 5/10 at best due to its other entertaining aspects. I havent encountered a series as frustrating as this since Chuno. Its vast potential was completely ruined by the "part and unite" circle and the dragging out of plot twists that shouldve been resolved much sooner.

Basically what you two said. I really liked it in terms of a love story. However this is suppose to more wuxia than love. Also, they definitely dragged out some of the parts too much. Usually I'm fine with 2 "part and unites" in a series, but this series did it 3 times and stretched it 40 episodes. Bleugh :(. Still a pretty nice love story though even though it was too dragged out.

Im not into chinese drama especially with a historical concept but this one is an exceptional! I love everything on it, the action moves, their love story, the connections between the casts etc., I've been rewatching it for about 3-4 times. This is the one and only chinese drama that i've watched.
