Rich Man, Poor Woman (2012)

Story: The story was good. There is always something happening that keeps me interested in watching this drama. The build up of the plot was good. It was slightly predictable though.

Acting/Cast: A very good cast. The main characters were very believable and unique. Each character had his/her own personality that was portrayed very well and made the drama interesting.

Music: Very suiting. However, they could have used more variety.

Overall: I would watch this drama again. My rewatch value is low for most shows I watch. Even though I give it a high rating, it doesn't mean that it leaves a "wow" impression - so this one is not too bad.

Some people have said Rich Man, Poor Woman looks like a kdrama, and maybe it’s half true, but Oguri Shun portrays Hyuga Toru like a boss. Ishihara Satomi is just too pretty and adorable. You can’t possibly not to love it if you have a thing for romantic dramas, despite all the eventual korean-ness.

At the beginning of the ep I was afraid this was gonna be a Protect the Boss-wannabe drama. You know, the fussy, rich and somewhat rude boss on one hand and the poor, hard-working and vexed employee on the other.

Hyuga Toru also has an inability, the prosopagnosia (He has problems remembering faces), which draws his character closer to Cha Ji Heon in Protect the Boss, even if the latter has agoraphobia. Or fear of speaking in front of crowds, can’t remember well now. But still.

It seems to me that more and more characters, if they’re meant to be the cocky main lead, they have to have some clinical problems. I mean, LOL.

Take also Hwang Tae Kyung in You’re Beautiful: he suffers from the fear to be infected or get dirty by other people, several allergies, night blindness, problems of social relationship since he avoids physical contact and has problems dealing with feelings. Oh, and he’s obsessed with order and perfection

So.

I’d say Hyuga Toru is not the worst complexed guy in dramas :D

The only thing that disappointed me is that they keep making ARATA look like an ojisan. It really gets on my nerves, because I’ve known him with Snakes & Earrings and he was so charming back then. I liked him in Blue Automobile, too. But in Hanamizuki and Mitsu no Aji they glued to him that ojisan-feeling, as if he weren’t young and able to be cool anymore.

I just love this drama, at the first glance of the title "rich man poor woman" i thought this drama is like the typical drama where rich man fall in love with poor woman then come the hardship with the family, the rival, the money and status gap and all that other 'drama' in the typical 'rich man fall in love with poor woman', it turns out not. The hardships like rival is still exist but this drama also potray about friendship. In fact the story flows naturally, the ups and downs was as close to reality, the love chemistry also flows naturally and felt real, the characters development also flows naturally from how they learn their mistake, facing the hardship to understand each other and be a better person. You can also learn a lot of things about life from this drama. I'm just glad that i give this drama a chance by watching it, you better give it a chance too coz you're not gonna regret it. I just wish there's gonna be another sequel maybe about what happen after a few years, or maybe about tying loose end of other characters, or maybe about when they have kids and have to deal with kids this days who spend a lot of time with gadget or other form of the wrong use of technology.
