Quick-witted banter, intriguing mysteries and a somewhat steady stream of awkward jokes make Trick a very enjoyable and fun series to watch. As someone with the humor of a 14-year-old boy at times, it was very easy for me to laugh out loud at the running boob and penis jokes throughout the series.

Anatomical humor aside though, this series does a great job of balancing fairly low-brow humor against thought-provoking mysteries. While in one moment you may find yourself genuinely pondering how this alleged psychic’s “trick” could have been accomplished, your train of thought might be suddenly broken upon glimpsing the inappropriately shaped bento box on the table. I actually enjoyed this dichotomy, because it helped to keep the series interesting, and from taking itself (and the characters) too seriously.

Dr. Ueda, who is a bit like a handsome mad scientist, is one of the oddest characters I’ve seen in a drama. He takes himself seriously, but then again he doesn’t at all. He has confidence, and yet, maybe not. It’s hard to pin point who he is as a person, because if nothing else, he is consistent in his inconsistencies. Is he a genius or is he an idiot? I’m genuinely not sure, but for me he’s just a lot of fun to watch!

Naoko is more the “straight woman” in the series. Naoko sees the big picture in the mysteries and is usually the one to solve the case. Even so, she can’t help but get wrapped up in the awkward hi-jinks that occur all around her. But she handles it with frankness and confidence and I adored that about her character.

Be warned though that this is not a particularly exciting series. Often, the mysteries unfold slowly (over the course of two episodes, sometimes) and there is a slice-of-life quality to this drama that deflects any air of fantasy or whimsy. But I actually like it this way!

Sometimes it’s good to watch a drama that is enjoyable, but not necessarily crack addicting to where it consumes your life. Trick is a pleasant refuge from the cracky, high-intensity dramas out there.

It was an enjoyable show, very intruiging to say the least.

I had read several claims about this show and I feel like it was a little overplayed. I didn't quite get everything I expected out of this series but nonetheless I was satisfied with the thought-provoking episodes and heartwarming moments. I found the humor in this to be particularly funny and I found myself laughing out loud several times.

I wouldn't say I was addicted to this series, as I tossed back and forth between this and 2 others at the same time. Though I would be more than willing to revisit this series once more. A great story and great cast just felt short-lived in my opinion. Hoping the second series can quench my desire for more; and so far it has.

I love the story in this drama. There are several cases which has to be solved our two main characters. Yukie (Naoko) & Hiroshi (Ueda) is a great pairing in this series and with Yabe they're always make the watcher laugh. Almost every episode has a different story and we get closer and closer the truth.
The magicians are really cool and I just love when they fascinate the audience you feel that you're lost and can't tell what's reality anymore.
If you like magicians, illusionists than you must watch this drama.

First of all, this drama is just gorgeous! I would've wanted it to be longer but it's long enough lol!
The chemistry between Abe and Nakama was crazy! the weird humor and the sudden gloomy, creepy mysteries that pop out in episodes was so good! I could watch it for ever and never get tired of it!
I liked how I get to learn new tricks and things with each episode, without really trying to deny super powers or psychometric things (if that's the word haha).

If you are looking for enough comedy mixed with thrill, stupidity, mysteries then you've reached your destination! I wish I knew this drama earlier in my life but I'm thankful I got to atleast come across it.

You might think it's too long, why so many sequels but trust me, once you get through the first season you'd be thankful it had so many sequels lol. It's just that GOOD!

Chaotically fun

Ridiculously funny slapstick humor in a rather intriguing premise where a quick-witted magician and a rather daft physicist repeatedly find themselves embroiled in the most absurd situations, the only thing urging them forward is their vehemence to prove that the supernatural is fake. Lots of fake magic busting.

“No matter how mysterious it may seem, there is always a reason for it.”

Trick follows the story of Yamada Naoko, a magician whose father (also a magician) debunked and exposed people who claimed to have real spiritual powers. Naoko herself firmly believes that every miracle is actually a trick; the solution lies in an excessively simple idea, a sleight of hand or commonplace mirrors.

Ueda Jirou is one of the most famous physicists in Japan. He challenges the idea of supernatural powers and offers a reward. Having unpaid several months of her rent, Naoko accepts the offer and this begins this journey.

I have no idea why I laughed everytime they made a boob or knob joke or the wig was about to fall off, absolutely ridiculous but the characters somehow managed to grow on me. Big-Dick Ueda and Flat-Breast Naoko were an awesome duo, the series also continuously teased their romance and it was fun to see how they skirted around it.

“This is a simple trick. Even if it is repeated 10 or 500 times, all of you will not see through it. It is not because you people are stupid. This trick is simpler than any you have imagined.”

The build up of the events and exposition of the fake supernatural were quite interesting to watch, and honestly the tricks were actually so stupid. That I think is the most impressive aspect of this series, how such seemingly magnificent occurrences can be explained so simply. Moreover, Naoko’s firm denial of anything supernatural and her strong will to find the root was great.

Overall this was a really fun watch with a suitable ending that left me aghast and also rolling on the floor. 8.5/10. TRICK is a show that I would rewatch.

Ever since I started watching J-dramas around 2005, I have known of this "Trick" franchise, which has been such a huge hit in Japan, spawning three seasons, three specials, four movies and even a 3-season spinoff! My not being a great fan of Nakama Yukie made me leave it aside for the time being, though, and it wasn't until this summer that I've finally decided to give it a try (if you'll pardon my lousy pun, seeing Nakama Yukie wearing a qipao in her very first scene - and thusly looking like a real life version of China-san's character from Tsuruta Kenji's "Spirit of Wonder" manga - definitely TRICKed me into watching the series, LOL - yep, I might not be a big fan of her acting, normally, but her beauty is objectively something to behold, I have no problem admitting that! ^____^).
After finishing the first season, though, I'm not sure whether I'm gonna go on with all the following, as I was left really unimpressed by the drama itself. The leads were good (Abe is always as funny as they come, and Nakama too was not bad at all here - LOL her eerie laugh was frankly quite funny), but the supporting cast and guest stars often delivered abysmal performances. The script is, imho, mostly uninspiring....I was expecting a funny mystery the likes of Ishihara Satomi's "Puzzle" from 2008 or "Reinoryokusha Odagiri Kyoko no Uso" from a coupla years later, but here the funny moments were unfortunately way too rare (the constant jokes about the FL being flat-chested and the ML being hung honestly deeply annoyed me in the end - not that they were that funny to begin with!) and the mystery plots often ridiculous (imho the storyline with the twins was the only decent one, all the rest were forgettable).
But the worst detail came with the "packaging"; whereas the music was pretty good, the photography was mostly of quite low quality, and the direction and editing simply *awful* - seriously, I can imagine high school clubs doing better than that!
All things considered, there's no way I could give this a passing grade, sorry.
