I don't know if I would recommend My Daughter Seoyoung to EVERYONE. For starters, this drama is 50 episodes long, so some parts are bound to drag and it needs patience. It's certainly not for people who make ep-to-ep analysis. I don't even know what I was thinking when I picked this one. Usually I pick dramas with episodes not more than 20. This was my first 50 episodes drama(Ok, Technically, Lee read more Soon Shin is the Best is my first 50 episodes drama, but that one's still airing). I guess I was bored.

Anyways, coming to my opinion on this drama, I loved it (I guess that's pretty obvious from my ratings. lol). This drama didn't drag for me at all. I didn't skip anything. The relationships were so beautiful. The father-daughter relationship full of emotions that every daughter can relate to. I mean, let's face it, at some point we've all fought with our dads. But we still love them unconditionally. That's how kids are programmed into this world (wait, did I just quote Anastasia Grey? I think I did). Obviously, things between Seoyoung and her dad are at another level. But she still loves him and their reconciliation is beautiful. There are other amazing relationships that took my breath away. The brother-sister, the husband-wife. I loved Seoyoung's mother-in-law and OMG HER BRO-IN-LAW IS SOO HOT!! I really like him (not just because he's hot though, lol).

I can't believe Seoyoung felt so lonely when all these people were in her life, loving her and encouraging her in their own ways. Her husband is just..PERFECT. I think I'm going to rewatch this whole drama in a couple of decades. In fact, I think I'm going to buy this on DVD. All the high tv ratings for this drama aren't for nothing. This drama fully deserved them. One of my favorites.

MDSY is indeed a MASTERPIECE !! it's been a long but wonderful journey... Now I can say with complete confidence MDSY really deserved the high ratings...

Story: SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL and full of emotions... emotions that I've never seen in other dramas. It felt like watching something real something I need to watch and learn from, it didn't feel at all like a "drama" for entertainment. The story has everything you need to read more learn about life, about people and understand what trust means what betrayal means, and why people act they way they do, how to look beyond what you actually see or what seems to be right and how to forgive...etc For a change there wasn't evil characters, crazy characters, annoying characters, weakling characters, cheesy characters...etc NONE of the things which exist in other Typical K dramas were here in MDSY.

Acting: The whole cast showed an amazing acting skills from small characters to the main characters... I have seen Lee Bo Young 2 times before I never did admire her as an actress I was wondering why give her such a huge project the girl can't even act... well SHE proved me wrong !! No one would've done Seo Young any better !! my 2nd surprise was Lee Jung Shin this is my first time admiring an idol's acting skills !! I'm definitely looking forward to their next projects !!.

Music: The instrumentals were so beautiful went very well with the story... my favorite OST is "Melody Day Like Back Then" I can't stop listening to it

Rewatch
It's a family drama and family dramas usually rewatchable in general so I'm giving it 9, but as for me I'm not sure if I'd rematch it again I don't rematch dramas except for really few special cases

Overall
Are you looking for a good family drama? With slice of life? This is the drama for you it's one of the best family dramas that I've seen. Don't let the length scare you it is really worth the time

While one of the dramas is a revenge story and the other is just family-romance, in both female leads lied to male leads before the marriage and suffer after the marriage because they need to keep secrets from the people they love. You may hate the female leads for hurting their men, but still can understand their actions. *Wedding doesn't happen in the very beginning and you see the whole development of the relationship in both, from OTP's first encounter.

Both dramas have same actress, she playes similar character (her behaviour and her job too, MDS inspirated IHYV in my opinion). IHYV is mix of comedy, romance, thriller and justice drama, MDS focuses more to relationships in family, guilt, and its consequences. MDS reminds me work of Thomas Hardy, because you can't avoid your past, it will be hunted you and it can destroy you.

I am almost to the end.. I just skip the side stories that i find annoying. I am glad i hang on. Finally got to the secret revealing part - resolution is very very well made...gave me a nice surprise. Such nice explanations! I love Seo Young's independence!! I am glad I didn't watch it when it's on-air, otherwise I would be up in the air waiting for new eps every week. I love watching family dramas and after watching My Daughter Seoyoung, it has become one of my favorite dramas. I sometimes get frustrated at Lee BoYoung character's but the ending is very satisfying and everything just goes back to its original position. I become a fan of Lee Sang Yoon after this drama.

Waste of DRAMA. I just skip watched because drama has seriously nothing in it. LEE BO YOUNG is just one overhyped actress. She looks clean and nice looking. Acting wise she does nothing. Just staring at wall whole drama is not acting

I respect your opinion but Lee Bo Young acting is great in My Daughter Seoyoung. This drama plot is very fast paced and everything falls into place nicely even though there might be melodramatic moments given that this is a family drama. Lee Sang Yoon and Lee BoYoung have great chemistry and all the casts did a good job. This is one of the dramas that its ratings represent the quality of the drama.

Actually i liked her in first few episode of IHY. Then she switched to her boring look. She is one of overhyped dead face. Some have luck and she is one of that type. I like any drama where actress brings charisma. She is really bad in this drama. Just awful.

Yea she does suck. I hear your voice was carried by Lee Jong Suk and Jeong Wung In.

To be honest, I loved the first 10episodes but then I kind of knew how the story will develop so I started to skip episodes. Basicaly I always skipped 5-10 and I still knew what was going on, too predictable. I don't undersatnd how people can say that this drama is the best, at least the best family drama. The acting was horrible, however, there were some exceptions. It seems that Lee Bo Young is one of the poker face actresses in this drama.
I guess that I am just comparing this drama with Glorious Day, which is, in my opinion, the jewel of family dramas

I watched Ep 1 and was interested enough to go on to Ep 2. Just 15 minutes into that episode, I suddenly lost interest … two reasons: Lee Bo Young and Lee Sang Yoon. Although LBY did well in the first scene, I found her acting somewhat bland … she is beautiful … too beautiful that it is almost like watching a mannequin perform (in her encounter toward end of Ep 1 and start of Ep 2, I thought I was watching her in "I Can Hear Your Voice"). I like actors and actresses who use different facial expressions to show emotions appropriate to the situations (i.e., Gong Hyo-jin and Ko Soo).

As for Lee Sang Yoon … same thing = acting somewhat bland. I watched him in "The Duo," where Chun Jung-myung outperformed him. I also watched him in "Life is Beautiful" and before too long I was fast-forwarding the parts he was in.

I would have continued to watch this drama had Park Jeong-ah had a Main Role. I didn't even recognize her as the same actress who played Saewa in "Smile, Donghae." She looked so different when she bounced into the Dining Room to join the rest of the Kang family.
Now, there is one superb actress! She also has a beautiful voice.

Yes,I agree this drama can get tiresome. The main conflict gets irritating really fast all because of Seoyoung's pride. She's getting on my nerves, much as I understand her motivations. I do, however, like HoJeong. She's the only honest person in all this mess of pride and betrayals and secrets. Seoyong should reconsider her actions. What she did was wrong from the start even if she had her reasons. I really like the cool professor as well. He's just cool. Ultimately, I still like the story if only because of the side characters. The narrative itself is only semi-involving due to all the hysterics going on. The best exchanges are between professor and Mingyong- I love them together. I also really like Sungwoo and HoJeon. Otherwise, everything is mostly about lies and betrayals and cheating and secrets and it gets tiresome but I like how Mingyong deals with her problems (with a little help from a certain someone) and how the relationship between Sungwoo and HoJeon develops ultimately. The father himself is ambivlanet but he is very well cast and the actor is instantly likeable. So all in all

-I liked the premise though it ultimately got tiresome, though it is still good to see woman protagonist who has pride; but there was just too much hysterics.
    -I liked the father actor
-I liked Professor Choi and Mingyong and their banter
    -I liked HoJeong and Sangwoo.
-I felt sorry for Saejong too.

Romance should be removed as a genre. This is a family soap opera. Romantic themes facilitate the main theme of family, but remains underdeveloped throughout. Which is fine. This is not a complaint. Just FYI for folks who might start this with inappropriate expectations.

Seo Young frustrated me with her enormous pride & stubbornness, but I liked her a lot. Her faults just made her more human. She was a refreshing change from the innocent, wide-eyed wilting lilies that are normally featured in Kdrama. Though she remained sweet & kind & domestic, I liked that she stayed career orientated. She possessed strength of character and independence. Some things she should've discussed with her husband, but in general I liked that she maintained her autonomy and did not allow other people (elders) to dictate her life from A-Z (those who've seen the show might know what I'm referring to here). So yes, would love to see more heroines like Seo Young in dramaland.

LBY is a decent actress, but I doubt I'll ever fully warm to her. I've decided not to watch any more of her shows. But it's not because I think she has no talent. She's just not an actress that works for me.

Finally, where the characters are concerned, they were fine. The story was okay, but is not my thing. I find desperate housewife type dramas exceedingly unrelatable & I've seen the same story too many times. I like things in moderation. All the desperation, resentment, whining & self - pity are inconvenient. Also many developments were glaringly contrived and silly. I can tolerate a lot, but when things don't make sense the rating will take a hit. I skipped a lot of this drama starting from ep 20. Many boring or draggy story arcs, to the neglect of more interesting ones.

The 1st 10 eps are like a short drama that sets the base for the rest of the show (a little bit of melo/drama/romance)...
then as the plot goes on you'll have 2 main stories of the twins...
    a) Lee Sang Woo's story (which I loved - felt like a cute Rom/Com with all the loveable cliches)
    b) The continuation of Lee Seo Young's story (more drama/family issues)
both get equal screen time along with a few side stories that keep you interested! :)
