Loving it!

The first few minutes of the episode got me hooked. The murder was unexpected, but I like it when dramas start off with a unpredictable scene. So far so good. The leads are both using each other to get what they want; what will happen? Haven't seen Go Soo act in four years. I think he picked a good role this time around.

This looks pretty good

To start with; I always had special feelings for dramas that start with murder.

This drama looks pretty cool for now; Tae Joo is a male lead that I began to relate to even if he killed someone but Seol Hee seems to be an unlikeable character not only because she took the blame for something she didn’t do but also; I believe she’s the one who got Tae Joo into that filthy world.

On the other hand, Min Jae is obviously the evil character in here; someone with schemes, hatred and wants to take everything from Seo Young. But she’s marrying Tae Joo? My guess is, they’re marrying each other for business profit only; she uses him to get back at Min Jae and he uses her to climb the ladder of success: seems legit if that’s the case.

Exciting!

1st 10 min.s of 1st ep...they are the fast forward events...then the beginning of the story starts...that definitely made things more exciting for me...the 1st ep shows the lead's circumstances that drive him to be a criminal...as the 1st 10 min.s showed...he'll never comeback to being a good guy...
the direction isn't so good but the plot seems good and the preview for next ep was interesting...Go Soo's acting was really good even though he hasn't been acting in dramas for a few years...while Lee You Won's acting was really stiff..I found her annoying...the rest of the cast did a fine job...I advice everyone to at least try the 1st 10 min.s of the show! ^.^

Promising

Another mature, darkly toned drama for Monday and Tuesday. Golden Empire has a similar feel to Cruel City and Shark, though it has a unique spark in that it is a period piece. The start is solid and holds interest, but seems to be geared toward the viewer also interested in the financial/social climate the story takes place in.

Go Soo will likely be the big draw otherwise; this is his first drama in several years, after all. His acting in the sequences in the last fifteen minutes, from the car stunt to the hospital, are riveting. With a character who is something of a fallen angel type, it's really a promising role. It'll be good if the other plot lines become more compelling after converging more directly with Tae Joo's; right now, they feel like bland but necessary devices of exposition.

It's definitely worth a look at episode 2.
