I went back in forth in my feelings for this drama. From about episode 1-7 I was really into it. Then I thought it was ok. I wanted to quit watching by episode 17 or 18 but I had invested so much time I powered through it. The last few episodes made up for the times I wanted to quit watching as they were fairly good episodes.
I felt that Leader Moe read more and Jae Hwa were phenomenal characters who I felt like I really got to know and love but the downside to that is that I wish I felt as strongly about Shin Jung Tae who is the main character. It wasn't until towards the end of the show that I started to appreciate his character more. I love a good fight scene but I got tired of seeing Shin Jung Tae fight everyone all the time and on top of the fighting I had to watch him train to fight too. I got bored. I felt the spark it had when it started disappeared and then made a comeback right at the end. They had good characters that they could have done more with and bad characters they should have done less with. Sometimes I would laugh at the logic behind why some of the characters were doing what they were doing mostly because there was no logic. What the show tried to pedal as romance was lackluster as well.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when a drama or even a person says they are going to do something and then they don't deliver.
(my examples are just examples btw) Example: if you say it's a fight to the death then someone should actually die or it's not really a fight to the death and you shouldn't call it that, if the doctor says you have 1 week to live you shouldn't magically be healed. These feel like lies to me. This show had a habit of making the stakes high for certain characters and then not delivering, letting me get all worked up for nothing. Of course I hate to see any character I love die or get hurt but don't make me cry over spilled milk if your actually not going to spill it.
All in Alll if the show were just 18 episodes I would have liked it better. I felt some episodes and parts of the storyline I could do without and it made the show draggy often.

In this one, the bad guys are despicable, the main actor is always covered in bruises, and things rarely make great solid sense.

Nonetheless -

GOOD - (EYE CANDY) Lets face it, if you're a fan of Kim Hyun Joong, you're going to watch this drama regardless. Eye candy-wise there will be a few more surprises, mainly Song Jae Rim, and not only him. BTW Kim Jae Wook is there for less read more than half of the series.

GOOD - (ACTION) If you love action, different styles of combat and disciplines, then perhaps you will like this drama. Theres a lot of fighting.

BAD - (STORY/WRITING) The story had so much potential, its a huge pity the writing wasn't at all up to par. It wasn't as bad the first 10 episodes, but then they switched writers, and subsequent episodes dragged and lacked logic, production value also became worse.

MEHHH - (ACTING) The casting wasn't bad. The acting itself was phenomenal coming from some of the actors. KHJ has improved as well... although he's still not amazing. Problem is, the acting is greatly exaggerated.. as in a lot of moments are over-acted. Its a bit awkward...

OVERALL - Watch for the eye candy and the fighting. Do not watch if you like a solid story, humor, goose bumpy romance or fast paced storytelling.

They are both similar and this drama is both romance and action with the actor Lee Kang To (Joo Won of Baker King Kim Tak Goo) and Jin Se Yeon. Set in the 1930 in the Japan war. This drama is a must be seen drama!!!! It really is a Drama which is addictive and fascinating!!

It has a little bit of everything... You'll feel diff'rent emotions as you watch through this drama... Friend becomes enemy, Enemy becomes allies... To those who hates actions and beatings you wont enjoy this drama but I came to realized even though it seems boring @ the begining as you watch through it, it's great... It has fictions maybe and quite brutal, but this drama also have facts about the ways of the past and can touch the heart of the viewers if you'll watch it intimately and get to know it's message. Please watch whole heartedly, not just because you wanted to give comments nor opinions on the actors...

I honestly think that they should make a spin-off about Mo Il Hwa and his life before the events of Inspiring Generation 'cause he was my favourite character, Song Jae Rim did a really good job he really is the best at playing this type of mysterious characters.

There are mostly two kinds of people watching this drama.
    1. Those whom love it.
    2. Those who find it pointless, meaningless and drop it.

Don't listen to commenters, and watch it yourself. Don't let them glide you on any side, just watch it and make your own decision weather you like it or not.

This drama should be renamed to: fighting scenes. Cause it was only revolved around fighting scenes. All the time. Unnecessarily. With people throwing up blood all the time.
Most pointless drama, I honestly expected so much out of it given the setting.
worst thing were the sound effects that were so fake....

Actually I personally didn't mind all the fighting scenes. I feel it is a refreshing turn to all the other themed dramas, and offers a different point-view of how the other side of world and fantasy truly works.

Only revolved around fighting scenes? A pointless drama? You're talking nonsense! I'm happy that there is a action packed show like this and with how this show goes forth. Every episode feels fresh and you never know how the episode will end. Remember, this is an action drama, not a romantic comedy.

I watched the first 10 episodes and will probably drop. I do not like dropping dramas but cant make myself watch the continuation. Agree with you. Can't see the point of making dramas like this...

The reason why I liked the drama was because it was not all centered towards the main character. For example, I really got attached to Mo Il Hwa and to Jung Jae Hwa - they were great characters that developed more than Shin Jung Tae. ^^

My problem with this drama is that I can't feel any emotional attachment to the story or characters. I'm always emontionless while watching it. I don't know what's going to happen and I don't care at all. Dropped.

This drama was awesome at the beginning, then in the middle it started to flop, surely due to the change of writer, but then they managed to pick it up, and from episode 16 to the end, it was pure enjoyment, I even began to think that KHJ wasn't that bad !
