This drama is about the struggles of the Korean people during the Chinese/Japanese war in Shanghai and a boy that becomes a man capable of protecting the ones he loves and his countrymen. If you don't like violence, then don't watch it. Even the synopsis tells you that Shin Jung Tae becomes the best fighter. I like the story's process of how he grows. I think the writing is really well done. read more I know a lot of people don't like Kim Hyun Joong as an actor. To that I say "pish posh". The stamina it took him to be Shin Jung Tae through this drama is enough for me. I have never thought he was a bad actor. He may not be the best, but he doesn't suck. Plus he is cute.

All of that being said, Kim Sung Oh as Jung Jae Hwa stole the show. His acting is stellar and I could just fall into those eyes. He needs a lead role ASAP. What is with all his supporting and guest roles? Do they not know a good thing when they see it?

I also loved Song Jae Rim as Leader Mo and Kim Seo Kyung as Aika (spelling may be wrong). They are both really good actors. Song Jae Rim's little smirky smile is as good as his fighting.

The lead actress leave a lot to be desired, but at least Im Soo Hyang as Gaya kicked some butt. I could have cared less about Jin Se Yeon as Ok Ryeon. I didn't like her in Bridal Mask and my thoughts haven't changed after watching this.

All of the other actors did well in their roles also.

I like the music a lot.

If you like action and/or period dramas, then this is definitely one you should watch.

In this one, the bad guys are despicable, the main actor is always covered in bruises, and things rarely make great solid sense.

Nonetheless -

GOOD - (EYE CANDY) Lets face it, if you're a fan of Kim Hyun Joong, you're going to watch this drama regardless. Eye candy-wise there will be a few more surprises, mainly Song Jae Rim, and not only him. BTW Kim Jae Wook is there for less read more than half of the series.

GOOD - (ACTION) If you love action, different styles of combat and disciplines, then perhaps you will like this drama. Theres a lot of fighting.

BAD - (STORY/WRITING) The story had so much potential, its a huge pity the writing wasn't at all up to par. It wasn't as bad the first 10 episodes, but then they switched writers, and subsequent episodes dragged and lacked logic, production value also became worse.

MEHHH - (ACTING) The casting wasn't bad. The acting itself was phenomenal coming from some of the actors. KHJ has improved as well... although he's still not amazing. Problem is, the acting is greatly exaggerated.. as in a lot of moments are over-acted. Its a bit awkward...

OVERALL - Watch for the eye candy and the fighting. Do not watch if you like a solid story, humor, goose bumpy romance or fast paced storytelling.

I am only 3 eps in and i have to say that aside from the cheesy music I'm really liking this so far. All the other kdramas I've seen has been romcoms but i am a bit of a boy at heart and love all the fighting scenes. The firsr fight had me hooked. Hottie Kim Hyun Joong kicking ass waa awesome to see. The young him is a bad ass as well and defo easy on the eysa. The acting is really good so far as well.

I started because of Kim hyun Joong but I finished totally mad with the piano song that you can listen in almost all the episodes. Anyone knows the name of that beautiful piece?

I dropped this at ep 4 ...I really want to see some of the supporting actors like Yang Ik Jun & Uhm Tae Goo but not sure i can cope with the rest of the cast and I have heard story goes nowhere & that the fight scenes are disappointing....hmmmm not sure whether to pick it up again....

after the 4th ep is when the adult cast starts. i would recommend you watch it again. the fight scenes are fantastic IMO and Kim Hyun Joong does a phenomenal job! I was so impressed considering he was a musician turn actor i only romcoms up til then. He was great even if he was only ever an actor. his character is very stoic but does a great job showing emotion when the situation calls for it especially for the people he cares about.

I never took Kim Hyun Joong for a method actor, but he obviously completely immersed himself in this role, his girlfriend can confirm it too.

    Such dedication.

I personally liked it. A lot of dramas lately are quite lovey dovey and its refreshing to see the fight scenes.

I hated it so damn much... I'm now afraid to start 20+ episodes drama because if it turns sour, I'm stock with it till the end (I don't like to drop stuff).

Mo Il Hwa elephant talk movie would probably be thousand times better than this whole drama tbh so why not just do that instead I'd watch gladly :)

No but srsly the only reason I even completed this drama and gave it score over 4 is Mo Il Hwa and not even kidding here...

So does this drama take place in japan or freaking korea -_-
Why do they dress so much like jap people and the culture but have gisaengs and everyone there speaks korean?? -_- so confused or is it in china -_-

Yes some scenes happens in korea and some scenes in china but there are diffrent character from korea, japan, and also china... I think that's the reason that you are confused and by the way gisaengs are not especially for japanese culture there were gisaeng in korea since goryeo dynsaty althogh the japanese geisha are older in history but this culture was very old in korea too, so don't get confused by this and watch this i really liked this drama.
