Jang Joon Hyun is a talented and popular musician. He looks down upon the traditional trot music genre. Meanwhile, Choi Chun Hee works multiple jobs as the breadwinner to support her father and younger sister. Her mother was a trot singer and she inherited the voice, along with hopes of being a trot singer herself someday. A romantic relationship begins between these two individuals.

I really wanted to enjoy Trot Lovers more, but what made this drama so special and different at first - the actors, the focus on the music industry, and the quirky characters - was overshadowed by endless drama cliches and mediocre writing. it had the potential to be so much more than your standard kdrama, and this is where the majority of my disappointment lies.

In the beginning, I liked that they read more provided a fresh musical spin on the Candy/Jerk pairing trope, and gave their second leads their own distinct personalities. But all of that seemed to break down somewhere around episode 10 or so, when the drama started focusing on one frustrating trope after another, rather than playing to its strengths: the acting, the music, and the lighthearted comedic tone of the show in general. I would have preferred better character development of the second leads, emphasizing more comedy rather than drama, and of course, more music.

I would only recommend watching if you are a fan of any of the main or second leads or interested just in the music, because the actors did an excellent job with the material they were given. Eun Ji was perfect as Chun Hee (and to be honest, should be required to sing in all of her future dramas, because her voice is just amazing), and Ji Hyun Woo did a great job fleshing out his character in a way that felt more three-dimensional, in spite of his actions early in the drama.

I don't have any plans to rewatch this, as it was frustrating enough the first time. Watch at your own risk, but fast forward through the angsty scenes.

This show makes me angry. Great, speedy start, but lousy writing means the story ran out of steam very quickly, despite the show being only 16 episodes long.

Thankfully there’s enough cute to get me through the whole show, not just the OTP, all the other side characters too.

I’m pretty impressed by Ji Hyun Woo, it being only his second time as a leading man in a show. I was won read more over by the growth of his character throughout the series. He definitely have charisma and potential. Eunji, as always, is feisty yet moving at certain points. They have great chemistry too. Love the OTP.

The side characters were a mixed bag. Shin Sung Rok is magnetic as a quirky but caring boss. Lee Se Young, on the other hand, was so bland. Bleh. She just sucked all the energy on the screen whenever she appeared. It’s the fatal mix of one-dimensional lazy writing and wooden acting. I love Answer Me 1994 so I definitely liked Sohn Ho Joon. Shin Bora also played quite a funny side character.

Any re-watching of this show would just make me rage. So NO re-watching for me.

Both stories are different but at the same time really similar. Both stories about ruined musicians/producers which found new talents that moved them. Also, both stories are about music, tragedy and love.

Exact same plot and characters. If you liked Trot Lovers you'll love Lee Soon Shin, and vice versa.

The beginning was kinda slow and it took me weeks to watch the first 4 episodes, now I'm at episode 11 and... they had to put in every single cliché they found? It bores me and I hate around 90% of the plot currently evolving. The beginning was good, the end might be good, don't know if I'll watch it or drop this before, too, the young CEO is very cool and I like the music but that's everything positive about this drama in my opinion.

    Too many K-Drama-Land clichés!

Certain negative comments & reviews had put me off but I finally watched it and it was a nice watch.Basic storyline but good acting. What I liked the most was the great chemistry & adorableness of the main couple.

Shin Sung Rok.....was what made me watch this drama until I had enough. I felt like he should have been with Jung Eun Ji's character because simply his character was so unusual, his interactions with her was sometimes puzzling, funny, and sometimes registered a dumbfounded look on my face.

His character wasn't the same cookie cutter which was obvious with Ji Hyun Woo's character. A jerk in all sense (and I watched most shows with jerks and they slowly evolve and I fall for the,) but his character was a level of jerkiness that couldn't and didn't get better for me as the episodes went on. Only that it made me wish that Shin Sung Rok's character was the male lead and that there might be some redeemable characteristics left in continuing.

No matter how many times I revisited this series, I just couldn't warm up to it. Even though it was done in the last couple years, it has the vibe of 2004 or 2008 drama with an uninteresting story.

My friend really recommended this to me, but seeing all these negative reviews is making me reluctant... I really don't want to waste my time on something I can avoid..I hate starting something that I might not finish. Happened to me twice and don't want it to add up. So help! Should I or should I not give it a try?
