Nine: Nine Times Time Travel

Lee Jin Wook (I Need Romance 2, Myung-wol the Spy) and Jo Yoon Hee (Unexpected You, Lie to Me) have been confirmed to star in the drama Nine: Nine Times Time Travel.  Yes, another time travel fantasy drama.  The director, Kim Byun Soo and screenwriter, Song Jae Jung, have experience in this field as they worked together on the drama series Queen In-Hyun’s Man. This drama will air on Mondays and Tuesdays after Flower Boy Next Door.

The plot centers around Park Sun Woo (Lee Jin Wook) who finds 9 incense items or potions and can travel back in time 20 years… you guessed it… 9 times.  Sun Woo is an anchorman for a broadcasting station. His love interest is a news reporter, Joo Min Young (Jo Yoon Hee) who is in his present time.  So there is no time crossed love dilemma or so it seems at this time.  Sun Woo has a mystery that he is trying to solve which requires him to travel back in time.  He also has to face the consequences in the present to any actions that he made in the past.

This drama seems really interesting to me.  Although I am kind of over the time travel dramas, I find this approach to be somewhat new.  I enjoyed Queen In-Hyun’s Man, but  at least the time travel devices present here are already in place and the writer won’t have to resort to a cell phone call.

Advertising Genius Lee Tae Baek

Jin Goo (Mother, Swallow the Sun), Park Ha Sun (Dong Yi, Tone Deaf Clinic), Han ChaeYoung (Only You, Delightful Girl, Choon-Hyang),and Jo Hyun Jae (Only You, 49 Days) are set to star in the upcoming drama Advertising Genius Lee Tae Baek. The director and writer have only been secondaries on other dramas and films so there are really no projects with what you can compare their style.  This drama will begin airing after School 2013 which is about to end.

This drama centers around Lee Tae Baek (Jin Goo) who plays a man who has come from the countryside to Seoul and struggles to make it in the advertising industry. He only has a high school diploma, but he is talented in drawing.  It is an uplifting story as he starts from designing signs and flyers to becoming a tremendous success.  Baek Ji Yoon (Park Ha Sun) is Tae Baek’s love interest working as a copy writing intern at the ad company which is the center of the story.  Go Ae Ri (Han Chae Young) plays an executive in an advertising company who threw away her past and her love to succeed.  Eddie Kang (Jo Hyun Jae) is also an advertising executive who has won medals in international advertising competitions.  As far as I know there is no love triangle or square in this drama.

I always root for an underdog and this drama seems to be perfect for that.  I haven’t seen a lot of these actors, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do.

Thorn Flower/Spineflower

Thorn Flower/Spineflower is the cable network: jTBC’s first daily drama which will be airing starting February 4. It is directed by Kim Do Hyung with whom I am unfamiliar (I searched for information, but as I am limited to reading English, I could not find anything).  The writer is Lee Hong Koo, who also wrote A Man Called God and East of Eden.  Jang Shin Young (The Empress), Kang Kyung Joon (Cooking Up Romance, To the Beautiful You), Sa Hee (Foolish Mom, Pain), Seo Do Young (Just You, Thorn Birds) and Jung Ji Yoon (Traffickers) will be starring in this drama.

Se Mi (Jang Shin Young) is a pure and innocent college student who is betrayed by the man she loves.  She faces death in her family and she's the victim of rape, while her dreams shatter. The person who develops from these traumas is a femme fatale who is cold, hard hearted and vengeful.  Kang Hyuk Min (Kang Kyung Joon) plays the son of a chaebol who is selfish and the cause of Se Mi’s misery. Kang Ji Min (Sa Hee) plays a woman who has everything but the love which Se Mi has taken from her.  She will do whatever it takes to get what she wants.

Honestly, I don’t know if I will be able to watch this, although I REALLY want to.  I’m nowhere good enough at understanding Korean to watch a drama without English subs.  I’m not sure anyone will sub it, as this is a daily drama. I still wanted to let you guys know that it is out there.

You’re the Best Lee Soon Shin

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r89/purplenaner/news/jojungsukandiu_zpse03ca741.jpg

Jo Jung Suk (King2Hearts,Architecture 101) and IU (Dream High) are confirmed to star in You’re the Best Lee Soon Shin that is to premier in April.  The director is Yoon Sung Shik who directed Story of a Man and Bridal Mask.  The screenwriter is Jung Yoo Kyung who wrote Please Marry Me and In Soon is Pretty.  It is said they are trying to create a drama of hope.  This will be IU’s first lead role and only her second drama.  Jo Jung Suk has touched many hearts with his role in King2Hearts, so many are looking forward to him in a lead role.

Lee Soon Shin (IU) is an unlucky girl that seems to overcome all her difficulties with a cheerful and courageous spirit.  She and her mother go through many trials after the death of her father.  She is the youngest daughter, and travels to Seoul to pursue her dreams.  Shin Jun Ho (Jo Jung Suk) is the male lead who is the head of a company.  He is cold and arrogant but begins to change after he meets Lee Soon Shin.

Seems like a pretty typical story line, but I’m still excited to see Jo Jung Suk in a lead role.  I hope that IU also does well, because I want to ENJOY this drama.

I hope you enjoy all of the upcoming dramas. There seems to be something for everyone.
