Goliath1357’s Weekend Movie Guide:

Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned

This weekend’s theme is revenge with a feminine twist. I would also like to warn that the first two films are extremely mature and I would advise anyone under the age of 18 not to watch them.

Country: South Korea                                    Year: 2005                            Genre: Thriller, Crime, Drama

Synopsis: The third and final film in Park Chan Wook’s Vengeance Trilogy. Lee Geum Ja (Lee Young Ae) was coerced into helping kidnap and murder a young boy and subsequently spent 13 years in prison. Although she was always on her best behavior and was known for being kind hearted-she spent most of her time planning revenge on the man who was really guilty of the crime.

Although this is my least favorite film in the Vengeance trilogy, it is still good and definitely worth watching. The revenge in this film is probably among the best I have ever seen.

Country: South Korea                               Year: 2010              Genre: Crime, Friendship, Suspense, Thriller

Synopsis: Mi Ran (Chae Si Hyeon) is a cold and emotionless single woman living in Seoul. One day after screaming and slapping a co-worker, Mi Ran is forced to take a vacation by her boss. She decides to visit Kim Bok Dam (Seo Young Hee), a childhood friend who lives on Moo Do island. Mi Ran begins to notice that all is not well on the island. Bok Dam has lived on Moo Do all her life and has led a miserable existence. One day a tragic event causes Bok Dam to finally snap.

I've watched a lot of movies but rarely have I disliked a character as much as Mi Ran -the things she does in the first ten minutes are almost up to par with the actions of the island people. It really broke my heart to witness what type of life Bok Dam led. Her murderous revenge actually felt truly justified.

Country: South Korea                                        Year: 2007                        Genre: Action, Drama Sports

Synopsis: Ha Eun (Do Ji Won) is married to Kwang Ju Chang (Park Sang Wook), a mixed-martial arts champion who beats her almost daily over the smallest offences. Ha Eun finally decides that she’s had enough and publicly challenges Ju Chang to fight.

While the revenge is not quite as severe as the previous two films discussed, it is just as satisfying. I really enjoyed the fact that while there are definitely serious issues covered, there were also lots of light and comedic moments so the film didn't get too weighed down.
