editSynopsis

In ancient China during the Warring States Period, a nameless prefect of a small jurisdiction arrives at the Qin state's capital city to meet the king of Qin. The king has just survived an attempt on his life by three feared assassins (Long Sky, Flying Snow and Broken Sword), and has taken precautions to protect himself, including forbidding visitors to approach closer than 100 paces to his throne. Nameless claims that he had slain the three assassins and he displays their weapons before the king, who is impressed and allows Nameless to sit progressively closer to him and tell him his story. Hero is one of my favorite movies since I was 7. When it first came out my dad was the one who rented it and I saw it with him. The brilliant acting skills of Jet Li were a great advantage to the movie. The awesome fighting scenes were beyond words. They leave you speechless. I love the use of vibrant colors and how the story is given by having Namless be the one to tell the story. I keep rewatching this movie every once in a while since I was 7. When I was young I just liked how it had so much action and the colors since I would not finish reading the subs fast enough. And I would see it more I would read more

I watched this in a car on a long trip on my laptop, where my headset kept on disconnecting frustrating me to no end!

That being said, I still enjoyed this movie tremendously. Story wise it was amazing. Acting wise it was amazing. The music served its purpose well. Rewatchability...It's not a movie i would rewatch unless it was to enjoy the incredibly choreography in the fight scenes. Overall, it's definitely a movie Wuxia/historical Martial Arts fans should watch.

  • Both are the same "type" of movies. They both star Zhang Zhi(the actress) as the lead woman. Both are absolutely amazing wuxia/martial arts movies.

This movie is just a piece of art and it also offers a different view of the first emperor of China than he is usually portrayed.
That said it doesn't diminish the fact that he was a cruel, paranoid ruler, but if you just watch this movie from artistic perspective than it surely is a refreshed take on.
