yes i tried it but it wasnt my type. 

its quite the well rated anime but it was somewhat the culmination of many genres that i did not fancy

Genres: Action (39/42), Adventure (4/42), Comedy (2/42),Fantasy (37/42), Magic (30/42), Shounen (1/42)

if u can recommend me something perhaps that doesnt have a strong focus on fantasy/magic would probably be excellent.

Full Metal Panic!  Fumoffu (Can be watched without watching the other seasons, that´s what I did)
Sexy Commando
Kyou kara ore ha
Arakawa under the bridge

Some good sports anime:

Ookiku furikabutte
Major

Some other good anime:
Blood+
Jormungand
GTO (Why is this not on your list?)


These are all I can come up with off the top of my head that are not on your list.

EDIT; And the anime I'm now about to watch 'Yomigaeru Sora: Rescue Wings'.

i watched gto drama so didnt feel too interested in pursuing the anime because the drama hadalready set the standards too high

I really enjoyed Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, its about these two children that have to make their way home following a devastating earthquake in Tokyo. Quite a few feels in this one, but its very good!
Also Isshuukan Friends (One Week Friends) which is a rom-com about a girl that loses her memories about her friends every Monday, also really liked this one!
