THAI DRAMAS - do they exist?

My number one favorite actor is Aum Atichart

But I also like Weir Sukollawat, Por Thrisadee, Tik Jesdaporn, and Ken Theeradeth

For Thai actresses My number one is Aff Taksaorn

And I also like Cherry Kemaupsorn Sirisuka , Pinky Savika Chaidech, Ann Thongprasom, and Ploy Chermarn Boonyasak


These are the ones I have seen in dramas so far. I'm open to suggestions of other actors and actresses. Who are your favorites Lady V?

Most Lakorns in general have 15 episodes the max fin. Sometimes till only 12-13 eps.

I like lakorn cuz the reciprocal comedy, slapstick, arrange marriage, forced, tragedy, unthinkable plot & action, make me wanna squeeze the actors / actresses, ROFL scenes till i'm coughing :D

So far I started watching only three and found the one I mentioned a fun ride, since it reminded me of Korean greatest love somewhat.

And I enjoyed Ann and Ken so far. He reminds of some western actor I just can't put a finger to it. I also think Aum and Aff do have nice chemistry together. And they all did a lot of dramas together, which iswhat I found unusual because they repeat actor collaborations far less in other asian dramas.

Haha Yeah The stories really pull me in and evoke many different emotions for me. lol I have yelled at the screen many times and wanted to smack some sense into the characters. I laughed a lot during Phoo Yai Lee Gab Nang Ma. :p

Yes, I like that- I love short stories without sequels but then the episodes are far longer than in any asian dramas, aren't they? Sometimes I feel it may make the drama drag a bit, it had that effect on me in that island lakorn I first started to watch

Yes you're variety of emotions come up cuz lakorns, in Korean Drama the actress role act carelessly & absurd, in Japanese the actress role act so clumsy & always indirect emotions given to the male lead.
But in Lakorn everything is so direct & straight away the speech or even emotions, like in boxing till K.O. mode ㅋㅋㅋ :D
So in Lakorn the scene & plot more to be in reality conversation like normally people speak & straightforward.

The episodes are probably between an hour and 2O minutes to an hour and a half, about the same as some Taiwanese dramas. Sometimes it might seem like it's dragging, but I'll get that feeling a lot during Kdramas and Tdramas because they are longer than Japanese dramas [for example], not only in the amount of minutes per episode but the amount of episodes.

In Lakorn 1 ep. in average length 90 minutes. In Korean Drama 1 ep. average 60 mins or more.
In Lakorn max.15 eps, sometimes 12-13 eps. In Korean Drama final ep. can be 100s or 50s, but the least is 16 eps.

The straightforwardness of speaking & action; comedy slapstick in Lakorns make fall in love. :D
The absurd in act & speech in Korean Drama lol-ing :D

I only watch Korean dramas up to 30 episodes, not all of them are necessarily that long, LadyV. And they have a sense of fun, though admittedly some of them try to do too much and end up being tacky. They;re still fun to watch.
The japanese also have very short dramas- like 10 epis or 20 at most, I love that. (Have I seen a japanese drama with more than 15 episodes, though? Not really! Mot of them are 10-11) In fact I avoid dramas any longer than 30 episodes because I love short and complete so much.

As for straightforwardness, I find that not everything and everyone in life can be straightforward. I love Japanese for making use of silence pregnant with meaning, like in Nagareboshi or Innocent Love. Silence and music are two powerful means of expressing things and often more effective, louder than straightforwards words and indirect hints can be very powerful as well.

Also, I do think that Koreans have managed to strike a balance between releasing short and long dramas.

I suppose Koreans do overact at times, as do Taiwanese (especially in those cutesy dramas which use hearts and stuff like that,,eek), but they are like those Bollywood movies with Sharukh Khan: often very lovable (as long as they can act in the first place lol); Korean dramas I do not watch for realism but fun,although sometimes I wonder whether it;s only money that drives actors to take some of the roles. Still, I try to forget about anything else other than the magic. that's why I am not intersted in private lives of actors or anything outisde of the story. It kills that magic.

But japanese with their silences really can be very powerful. And Koreans can be very authentic too. I found City Hall acting very authentic, warm and not tacky, for one.

Japanese dorama in average there are 12 eps. rarely 20 eps.
The K-Drama the least 16 eps.
Lakorn 12-15 eps.

But the hit K-Drama get into 50s, 100s, even made into sequel or triquel :D, but in Lakorn no sequel.
e.g.: High Kick 3 [120 eps], Full House 2, All My Love [210 eps] --- eventhough i love watching All My Love but jumping eps.

I know, but as we agree, what is a hit drama for one person, may be a bad drama for another and for me the sheer number of episodes over 30 is offputting so I don't tend to even think about watching such dramas.

Full House 2? I liked Full House enough but what on earth would full house 2 be about? Unless it's a spin-off, like Drunken to love you or Goong S. I like those spin-offs, to be honest, as I liked Goong S. But other than that sequels tend to bug me because most of the time I am against sameness, meaning:watching same arrangement with same actors but contrived complications that just ruin things that ended so well in the original series. Well, maybe except Hotaru no hikari 2, which was just a cute and heartwarming continuation and such a fun ride with really enjoyable chemistry between Buchoy and Amemiya...aish...

You know what, the variety out ther is trully amazing and so everyone can find something for themselves to enjoy, I really really like this fact and so...I'll be going off now to watch another lakorn. I'll be looking forward to seing more recs from you al knoweldgeable in Thai dramas in due course and maybe this thread can gain even more popularity, Thai lakrons may well deserve a bit more love around here ^^.

In Japanese: dorama
Thai: Lakorn
Indo: Sinetron
UK, Ireland, US: Soap Opera / Soap.
K-Drama: ??? does anyone know ?

In Kdramas they tend to call them draramas it sounds like to me haha. So basically I think they just refer to them as dramas as far as I know

@LadyV, oops :D sounds like La'Acorn haha. thanks. it probably has some thia plural form to define the collective of many dramas, because Lakorn is the genre name in singular, yes?

In truth, I think the short name for K-drama is K-drama :D Korean drama is the full name. Wikipedia posts Korean name: 한국드라마 which in google translate ends up: Korea Drama heh. The same as dorama is really J-dorama or J-drama, I believe.
