editSynopsis

Through the introduction of his friend Danma Ryuji (Shirota Yu), Onizuka Eikichi (AKIRA), the former legendary bike gang member, visits Meishu Academy to tend to the trees in the garden as a part-time gardener. Learning that Yoshikawa Noboru (Nakagawa Taishi), a student in teacher Fuyutsuki Azusa’s (Takimoto Miori) class is being bullied by Uehara Kyoko (Shinkawa Yua) and other classmates, Onizuka befriends and saves Yoshikawa. Seeing Onizuka’s unprecedented but visceral, powerful response to problem solving, the school’s president and principal, Sakurai Yoshiko (Kuroki Hitomi), overrides resistance from her vice principal Uchiyamada Hiroshi (Tayama Ryosei) and makes Onizuka a teacher. Onizuka goes on to tackle many issues as the teacher in charge of the most problematic class, Class 2/4.

I watched the original live series some time ago, and read one or two of the mangas. So its with a suprise that a remake was done this year, but I can honestly say that I've enjoyed this remake and though the original was fantastic; this is more modern and very up to date.

I can honestly say that with the currently episodes online I have watched them for the second time, and being that its still 'on air' it will take time until I get to watch them all (one episode per week).

So if your looking to watch some light laughter and light hearted plots and usual teenage agnst!

Then take this series as one to watch, you wont be disappointed...

The remake started out good but eventually it just felt like a cheaper version of GTO. The original was a masterpiece and this one was just average. The new Onizuka was just not even comparable to the original. The side cast is what made this interesting at first, but eventually even they couldn't pull off the show for me. I wouldn't say that it was bad, but it just wasn't that great IMO. I'd say that if you've already seen the old one then don't bother watching this one unless you really really want to. And if you have not seen the old one then watch the old one instead of this one.

  • these two are legends. When you watch them, you think about "Why on earth did I not have a teacher like him/her?"

When I first saw Ryuji, I was like "Ha! He looks like a super hot version of Shirota Yu(not that he wasn't already good-looking)... wait a minute... It IS Shirota Yu!" How in the world did he get so hot? Forget the ugly stick, this boy got beat by the Stud Stick for a decade straight. My goodness. Very impressive, sir. *Slow clapping* *Drooling* \(*o*)/

I really loved this drama. I'm a sucker for these good life lessons and such. Some parts really hit home. And Onizuka is a riot haha :)

After watching the original GTO drama, anime and read most of the manga and being extremely attached to the series, I can't say this remake did the series justice. However not a bad attempt and had some nice touches to it, to make it more modern and relevant!

I'd really like to see a second season of this show.

Make it a slight bit grittier like the 98 version and not so episodic and I think you got gold on your hands.

I started watching it thinking it could never live up the original...and it doesn't, it lives a life of its own! It's true it didn't make me cry as much as the old one, but it made me laugh a lot more! As a big GTO fan, I loved it!

Why is it always schools and suicide... this is the main reason I gave it a 7. Too many repeated elements were in the dorama.
