Hiratsuka Heihachi (Katori Shingo)is loud and impolite, but always smiles. He is a strange detective. Unlike Hiratsuka, Saionji Kosuke (Yamashita Tomohisa) is the heir of a wealthy family. He is full of justice, naive and honest almost to a fault. Saionji Kosuke is then designated to the #1 investigation team, which he has always admired. Unfortunately, his job is to watch over Hiratsuka Heihachi. Up to this point, Hiratsuka Heihachi has been the sole member of his team, but he manages to solve all of his cases one by one. Other detectives are curious about his methods, some even think he may have some mystic powers. This is the primary reason why Saionji is tasked to watch over Hiratsuka. The real reason Hiratsuka is able to solve so many cases is that the criminals hate Hiratsuka the most ...

The main story is quite good, funny and stimulating.
The cast is also very good, and it was nice to see the actors giving a funny side to their own character for that mystery drama instead of sticking to a serious one like a lot does.
The main blames were that some stories were somehow easy to figure out, even before the main character's search process. Yes, some episodes are somehow easy to figure out but overall, some others are really good and well made so it'll be harder to guess who the culprit is.
The other blame I heard about MONSTERS is that it's somehow repetitive. The drama do follow the same pattern from one episode to read more report I found this review Helpful Not Helpful -

That doesn't mean the show isn't good, however. The acting in this is superb, and honestly something I did not expect from a Comedy-oriented drama. All of the characters are played extremely well and it's really hard not to like any of read more report I found this review Helpful Not Helpful

While MONSTERS is mainly focused on Comedy as opposed to the seriousness of the crimes themselves, both that and Kagi no Kakatta Heya are played out very similarly, have slightly aloof, out of the box characters as the main crime-solver and they're both focused on episodes that are sort of fixed (more so Kagi than MONSTERS) and can be watched whenever; watching them in order isn't really needed.
