editSynopsis

Nodame and Chiaki mutually decide that it would be for the best if they parted ways for a while so Nodame can practice for an upcoming competition. However, when things don't go her way, she gets impatient and depressed. While Nodame is away, Chiaki's former pianist Rui Son returns to take her place. To make matters worse, Rui and Chiaki are set to play the song Nodame dreams of playing with Chiaki herself: Ravel's "Concerto in G Minor".

Nodame Cantabile The Final Score II is really a continuation of the first movie. I wrote a review for The Final Score I and my thoughts there are very much the same here.

The continuation and deepening of both Chiaki's and Nodame's talents and relationship are the focus. And they both have to decide what they want and what is important. The story is told in the same funny, silly and charming way the whole series has been told. This movie is the best of them and usually with sequels, you can't say that.

More of my thoughts are expressed in the other review and I'd only be repeating myself too much.

    The music is a 10. I can't give it any lower. I think I

I marathoned the drama up to the Final Score II in three nights because I had to know how it ended.

I'm a bit sad that after all I didn't get to see what I wanted at the end. After 11 episodes, 2 specials and 2 movies, Nodame's realization of her dream didn't materialize at the end of the series and left me thinking if the appropriate title for the whole thing should have been 'Chiaki Cantabile' instead.

I am frustrated that Nodame has to be the only one who's vocal about her feelings (and yet when it comes to music she can't explain it properly), while Chiaki, who's so meticulous about every little thing he hears is so articulate at pointing them out is so unclear and lousy at expressing his g*dd**n feelings. Whenever Chiaki's face comes up I find myself shouting "stupid," "idiot," "Baka," or "dense" at my screen!

Well, I think the whole point of Chiaki and Nodame being so different is so that they can balance each other out and show how strong and outgoing personalities need someone to butt heads with. Nodame also has a long history of being blunt and using her music in a fun way to talk for her, while Chiaki has been rather mechanical and "trained" and in a way taught not to talk about his emotions. Instead he should just follow the path that has been laid out before him.

When Nodame decides to enter the competition, she grows out of her child-like bubble and realises that she cannot stay the same way forever, just as Chiaki has imprented in her. At the same tame Chiaki, who has never really had any interest in anything other than himself and his mucis, finds himself in need for Nodame to be by his side, and realising that he needs her if he's ever going to reach his goals.

Chiaki is the obvious main character of the show. His thoughts are made clear to us, but not to Nodame, which makes everything complicated the way they end up eventually. "Cantabile" is a term used for musicians to give them and idea on how to perform. It means "like you would sing it". It's a lot harder to do than it sounds. I think the title means that Nodame is carefree in a way that Chiaki can never be, and therefore seems uncomplicated and easy for everyone that watches, while no one really understands the complexity behind Nodame. This is what ticks Chiaki off at first, but eventually he sees her for what she is and that is what eventually makes him fall in love with her.

It's too late to ramble, but I did it anyway. I hope any of this made sense, fnbdjskfnsdg. At least this is what I think.

      Great explanation!

I probably would have appreciated it better if it hadn't drag the whole "Chiaki,I will wait for you" sentiment so much 'til the end. It was so hard for her to grow and I kept thinking when they were going to show how she did that alongside his. That explains how I feel while watching the whole story--drama, specials and movies. It's as if the director didn't know how to balance the scenes out and had to show Chiaki in competitions while Nodame--what was Nodame doing? If it was deliberate then I'm frustrated about her situation all the more.

Perhaps I should look at the ending as a while she's still at the middle of the process of change--a very slow one, because she's so complex. But that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Well I think that Nodame has always been quite lost and not known exactly what to do with her life. She wanted to become a kindergarten teacher, but her reality was ripped out from under her feet when she followed Chiaki to Europe. She didn't really understand what she was doing, ergo why she never really studied french. I think the ending represents Nodame finally taking a stand and deciding what she wants to do for herself.

      But by all means, your opinion is subjective - It's up to you to decide what you like and not. I don't normally ramble like this, but I just love this story so much that I had to. However I still get the imression that you like it overall, so that makes me a pleased nodametard. n.n Endings suck in general, I just want the show to go on and on and on ;__;

I love music and that kept me going forward with the series (I simply can't resist the classics and learning some bits about them). I don't take your comments as rambles. I actually appreciate them because you're giving me your perspective on the drama and I respect that. It makes me reflect on what I've thought differently. And yes, overall, I liked this. Although I would have liked it more if they made Chiaki less of an a**hole for making it hard on her.

Well that's good then! And lmao, I see your point about Chiaki. I just really really loved him.

I loved how it just showed so much growth. It was very tangible..how they both grew in their reactions to one another, becoming so much more open and stable in many ways, how more together they became. I had a terrible sense of longing emanting from between the two of them, but that longing gradually bridged as they matured and the feeling it leaves me with at the end is that of someting tangible, palapble and definite, though indescribable. The cast made it so much more endearing, both hiroshi and ueno are just perfect for these roles, they fall into them so easily. I rewatched the entire series twice in a row this past week. I am certain it is one of my favourites in the romantic genre.

Beautiful. This final movie has a melancholic touch, it's the evolution not only of Nodame but also their amazing relationship.

I know being in band is different then being in an orchestra...haha WAY different...but still...the drama reminded me about our 4 hour rehearsals everyday, and waking up at 4am for practice..and getting home at midnight on school nights...the arguments the band had...the frustration...then the breakthrough...SEEING the conductor for the first time...then finally performing...it's awesome...and sadly...the departing...saying bye to our graduates knowing there would never be another performance like the one we just played...but we still have to keep going...keep improving...

haha dang this hit the spot.
