Takuma, a boy who is told he will die before he's 20, and Mayu, a girl who is in love with him... The story begins when they are little kids. Mayu, whose father is a doctor, meets Takuma, who is hospitalized in her father's workplace. They develop feelings for each other, but Mayu learns of Takuma's grave illness and that he will die before he turns 20. The distraught children make one promise for an uncertain future. Time passes, and the girl becomes a young woman, and the boy, a young man. Mayu continues to support and love Takuma. On the other hand, Takuma, who knows his days are numbered, pushes away his feelings for Mayu and distances himself from her. He cannot stand to see her cry or hurt her more than he already has. Then Mayu meets another man who has feelings for her, and Takuma meets a woman who has the same illness, and their feelings for each other begin to waver. Misunderstandings, unsaid thoughts, the frustrations and chagrin of youth... What will become of their love while the clock keeps ticking away in Takuma's life?

If you've read the manga you might be a little disappointed with this theatrical version. If you haven't read the manga (or read it and want to watch this anyway) then you definitely should watch it. The romance is so beautiful and their struggles are so difficult that you can't help but scream at them.
The acting is absolutely incredible, the story is heart wrenching, and above all the story is believable.
If you're not sure if this movie is for you watch the first 10 minutes. By the time the 10 minute mark rolls by I think you will realize how touching this movie will be. :)

Maybe I just really love young love, but I absolutely loved this movie! Yes I did cry but I knew that it was both sad and happy tears. I have gone back and forth for awhile now whether or not I should watch this movie, I finally did and I am so glad that i did :) This movie is so moving and full of warm feelings inside! I hope that you don't avoid watching this because it's a little sad, but I fully understand if you do as well. I hope this review helps and if it doesn't then message me and I hope that I can be of help to you :)

I think the plot summary is slightly misleading. From reading it, I expected the movie to be thick with angst, but I was surprised that in spite of the sad themes, most of the story was strangely lighthearted. All those "misunderstandings" the summary talks about were quickly cleared up. For me, the movie was more about enjoying life than being pained by it.

Absolute perfection! We all know that there just too many Asian dramas/movies with very similar plots: the couple grow up together and eventually one of them dies from an illness. But this one is different from all the rest. Absolutely touching and spine-tingling.

Such nice, lovely, well acted and bittersweet movie. I'm glad I found the recommendation to watch it from here. I loved the actor who played Takuma. What a sweet character. I have never even read of the manga, but this movie was absolutely worth watching. I'm glad I did :)

Well, somebody did spoil it for me, so I knew what was coming
Plus I read the manga, so I was a bit disappointed.
Other than that it was really nice.
