The story follows a family of Japanese immigrants who crossed over to America 99 years ago. Kusanagi plays both the young Hiramatsu Chokichi (later taken over by Nakai) and his son, Ichiro. When the war breaks out the Japanese immigrants face racism and segregation. Ichiro pledges his alliance to America and gets sent to Europe, second son Jiro stays back with Ichiro's beloved Shinobu (who he has a crush on) and tries to protect his parents' farm. Their two sisters Shizu and Sachie are sent back to Japan and have to experience the horrors of war, one in Hiroshima and the other in Okinawa. (Source: DramaWiki) Edit Translation

I've found story of 99-nen no Ai - as said before - interesting. Maybe only minus would be that whole history was showed only from Japanese point of view, but on the other hand it make sense as it was family saga of Japanese family, who emigrated to USA.
Can't say much about acting or music, as I didn't much attention to them. Also from my personal point of view the whole series was way too long (2h for each episode) and was bored at times. Rewatch Value for me is very low - coz 1) I don't like to rewatch and 2) episodes are too long for my taste.
Overall, if you are interested in the topic and want to watch family saga (pretending to be documentary ) - it will be a good watch.
