Kazuyuki Yamamura works at a major advertising agency, and is the breadwinner of his family, which consists of himself, wife Miki, and daughter Rie. He purchases a house, and is proud of being at the pinnacle of his career. Kazuyuki's neighbor, Yusuke Sugio, however, leads a completely different life. The breadwinner of his family is his wife Shoko, who runs her own company. Yusuke is a so-called "at-home dad", and because of this, Kazuyuki considers him miserable and helpless. Suddenly one day, Kazuyuki is forced to quit his company. At the same time, his wife receives a call from her former employer saying he wants her to come back to work. Consequently, Kazuyuki has no other choice but to stay at home while Miki works. Kazuyuki reluctantly starts his new life as a household husband—the last thing he wanted to do. Fuji TV

Ah one of my favorite dramas, that was also one of my first watched dramas. As you've read the summary you know this is about a dad who loses his job and so he stays home and takes care of the children while his wife works. It has a unique storyline, comedy, drama, and it's rather enjoyable to watch so I give the story a 10. I'm a big fan of Hiroshi Abe, so i might be a bit biased when it comes to the Cast/Acting but i really think they did a brilliant job, so for the Cast/Acting, i'm going to also give it a 10. The music was ok. As for rewatch value, i'm generally not a rewatcher, so this gets a 7 for read more

the story of this drama is definitely not boring and not something that we see a lot. during the time it aired, i am pretty sure it was new for it's time. First of all, the fact that it is about someone who decided to become an "at home dad" because his wife had work and he was fired. All in all, he could not find a job so it was his last resort. by taking the role of the house-man though and making friends with his neighbor he matured into becoming a proper dad for his child.

the acting, needless to say , it was outstanding. all of the actors definitely did great in this seeing as most of them have had a lot of

  • They are both family dramas. If you like one chances are high that you'll like the other.

  • Both dramas follow the exploits of stay at home dads in communities that don't appreciate their non-traditional roles. While the issues of gender roles and inequality are heavy, both of these comedies lighten it up :) Dare Yori has more colorful characters than At Home Dad, but both are good.

am i supposed to believe that 18 years old Ando Sakura (at that time - 2004) plays a role of 6 years old girl?

There is a mistake, good eye! It's a different Ando Sakura who played the child. http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Ando_Sakura_(1997).

Fun interactions between Abe's character and that of his neighbour stay-at-home dad. Fun to see as Abe's character makes his realizations about himself and his lifestyle so far...and perhaps discovers a new lifestyle for himself too. It's all about priorities. Very likeable drama. One of the few that made me genuinely laugh out loud-and that is a feat for dramas to achieve with me. I like how it challenges the gender sterotype. There were a few lines that are debatable to me but all in all a rather original and endearing drama.
