This drama portrays the life of the 19th king of Goguryeo, Hwanwoong, who was sent from the heavens to make the world a better place. He falls in love with Saeoh and gives her the joojak necklace; however, Kajin becomes jealous since Saeoh has given birth to Hwanwoong's son. She takes the baby and throws him off a cliff. Saeoh, thinking that her son had died, is overcome with grief and turns into the black joojak to destroy the world. Hwanwoong is the only one who could stop her. Afterwards, Hwanwoong returns to the Heavens and prophecizes that 2000 years later, the true Joo Shin king will come to Earth. With the help of the four gods, he will rebuild Joo Shin.

what I have to say?? I really enjoy watching period drama and in this story there is the addition of fantasy and also adds mythical elements. I don't know why but I wasn't interested in the beginning. It didn't seem to me a remarkable story, only later I realized that I was beginning to like it. I hoped in more scenes of affection. I prefer romantic stories even so I was impressed by scenes of war, so I can't say that the romance is the central theme (who is looking for a love story in the past I suggest trying another drama). The music is not less than the story (composed by Joe Hisaishi) and some actors were really good in acting.
    P.S. Sorry if there

This drama was epic! The timeline, characters, locations, sets, costumes, special effects, everything. Myth, legend and history rolled up into one awesome package. Clearly, this drama had a huge budget. The main thread of the story is to get the prehistoric mythology of the origins of Korea to line up in the end with the historical figure of Gwanggaeto the Great of Goguryeo. To do this requires much help from supernatural forces, most especially from the Four Gods from Heaven said to reanimate for the true Joo Shin King. Fine, just go along for the ride. If you want a big romantic payoff in the end and that’s the reason you’re watching, then you’ll most likely be disappointed. There will be no sullying the purity of read more

It was epic ! However, I craved for more Sujini/DamDuk scenes, it's wasn't enough !
... I wish there were more episodes, 24 is too short for such an epic drama.

Will someone please tell me if the ending of this show is worth it?
    • anglachelle Dec 22, 2012
Sadly no. At least for me. I was really disappointed. But I after I finished the drama I looked up some information about it and found an alternative ending that was considered, I found it better so I just imagined it ended like that (however, I have already forgot what it was. Oops...) But apart from ending there is a lot of great stuff. I watched it more than year ago and I still remember some great characters and interactions. Especially between Damduk and Sujini. Those parts were really lovable. Oh, and it is visual feast :-)

At the end of episode 2 I actually shouted 'what an uninteresting cliffhanger!' with one big smile and excited heart. I was eager to keep going, I was pleased by anything's going on in the drama, wihtout knowing why. It wasn't the 'what will happen next' that kept me going, I just loved it, I don't care with whatever flaw it had, I WANTED to watch EVERYTHING it delivered so badly. Even though it was very anime-like, and I couldn't stand that DD, Sujini, and Ho Gae were supposed to be 17 years old when they were introduced in the drama (well Sujini was kinda fine). Yet it was the drama that make me try very hard to make any spare time I could so I can watch it. I like, favor, cheer on, and sympathize with some characters, but when they died I actually don't care. When the drama ended badly I still don't care. Was it an illusion that I like it at all?

I've read somewhere that the actual ending is different from what they originally intended to. Although I'm initially fine with the ending, now that I know what I know... I say they could have done better with it.
