The first thing that came into my mind after watching this film, that all the bed scenes were really unnecessary (well not altogether unnecessary, but there were too many and to intense, if I may say so).
Now when the film is over, I am thinking, so what? What was the meaning of the film? What did the creators want to tell the audience through the movie? (I won't spoil your pleasure by telling the ending). And don't think I am saying this as a negative thing, though I really can't hide the empty feeling in me now... really empty, which, I didn't think I would have after this reach and beautiful movie. But I really do, I think the ending is not worth of the

High powered tension, an intense love triangle, and imminent rebellion all come together to make a elaborate story I was certainly drawn into. I will admit, however, that the middle of the story seemed to drone on a tad bit and left me rather distracted, but it quickly picked up around the end as the plot unraveled and left me with my eyes glued to the screen.

The acting was absolutely superb in every sense of the word. I was completely and undeniably convinced they were who they said they were, and it's safe to say that it's rare for me to feel that way.

My only complaint is that I could've lived without the more inappropriate scenes...I felt they

I get the feeling I'm one of a handful of people who actually paid attention to the storyline & not just the bed scenes.
But this was such as Amazing movie, I really did not expect half of the stuff that happened to happen. Such as the library scene! (I think it was a library? tbh I watched most of this without subs XD)
    1 ❤
    • GisaengTales 4 days ago
Just because they were in a library and not in a bed, doesn't mean the scene doesn't fall under the same category. I was so shocked by that scene... Every time I see a library in a period drama, I am suddenly reminded of that... *cringe* (For example I am currently watching Queen in Hyun's Man, and they have a similar library. LOL)

BUT, apart from that, the movie was really passionate and had really powerful acting and a strong story line.
One of my absolute favourite movies.

Too bad, I'm watching this without eng subtitle, -__- and yeah I just understand bit of it. The nude scene was actually made my jaw drop :O, I keep thinking that the bed scene was real and Ji hyo is beyond what I've been expected, she's not that Mong in my opinion , if the scene wasn't real, then I may congratulate the production team, they make those scene amazingly alive.

Wow. This movie was well done especially Jo In Sung's acting. I felt sorry for Hong Rim from the beginning. I thought it was creepy how the king paid so much attention to a little kid at the start. It makes me wonder if Hong Rim was lead to be the kings lover as he grew under the care of this almost father/ brother/mentor figure from a young age. How could he say no. That type of relationship could cause him to want to please the king ANY way he could. The fact the soldiers weren't allowed normal relationships made finding the truth of his sexuality harder. Poor guy was so confused .you can see it when he clings to the sleeping king (to me he almost looks like a child looking for comfort) .Sex was often here but the thing I paid attention to was how Hong Lim acted differently each time. At the end I wonder if he looked at the king because his world had revolved around him for so long..

OMG what an awesome movie! Ok I was really surprised that they show a lot and I mean a lot nude scenes, but as I recall many period movies have more nude scenes then most modern movies. So true, Hong Lim acted different in every bed scene with the Queen, and though that scenes we could see his affection towards her.
King character was kind a creep -.- like you said he raised his own lover- seriously! Wow I was so satisfied when Hong Lim said that he never loved him. Although I think he told that to hurt him more. I think his loved for the King was too messed up to begin with, he did not have any choice.
Jo In Sung acting is superb and his eyes that tell you everything what's he's feeling ahhh... <melting>
In the last scene I think he turn his head because he didn't wanted see Queen leaving, not because he wanted to die looking at the King.
Btw loved your comment on this movie! *.*

Thank you I would have added more of a comment on the end but I ran out of room. : ) I agree Jo In Sung is awesome. I think his body language told more then the few lines he had. Maybe he looks at king at the end because after so long having his life be controlled by the king he wanted to make sure he was dead before he died. The ending scene where they hunt on horses together I think was the kings idea of heaven as he was finally at peace after going crazy over Hong Lim. Hong Lims heaven could be that his love was safe along with his child and he could be free of worry for them while he stayed with the king. As for the title I wonder if it refers to the fact Hong Lim was frozen in this life going through the motions and couldn't blossom into the man he could have been until he fell in love with the queen.... I read too much into things. LOL

Hihi me too, this movie needs to be discussed over and over again - too intense to just comment it in one comment box :D
Oh his body language made me blush >.< but I agree his actions spoke beyond words.
One of my fav scene were when Hong Lim was having "special meeting" with the Queen and King stood with his gift (horse) late at night waiting for him xD I was like "wow busted!"
Hm ok I can relate to your vision why he turn his head towards the king, just to make sure his dead.
King really went mad because of his jealousy, when Hong Lim destroyed the painting right in the middle it was so symbolic!
Agree last scene with horses was Kings heaven.
I cannot see that option being heaven for Hong Lim cus he wouldn't be with his loved ones but this would give him peace.
Noooo, you are not reading too much into things, awesome interpretation of the title- totally agree!

Yea he is definitely melt worthy. I know what I understood and what was meant is different but i like my meaning of the movie. lol. I like Jo In Sung's movie "Love of South and North to. What did you think of that song that king sang being played at the end. I think that is where idea of movie came from.
    • tiitek 22 days ago
I never saw Love of South and North to but this will change soon :D
True it could be it, actually I skipped parts where they were singing, old traditional asian songs don't really find them enjoying >.< sorry :P but as for instrumental ost loved it!!!
Oh one more thing, I forgot to mention earlier... scene when Queen gave him the rice cake OMG - like in high school love I was sooo touched! That scene when they eat together was the only normal couple routine and it was celebrated so much. I'm not saying fucking around like rabbits isn't normal couple routine xD but not in asian productions at least. :P

This movie is definitely not for the underages, I warn you.
That's apart it is actually a good movie with good acting and good directing. But the bed scenes were just too much. I know it was needed for the sake of the story but it doesn't need to be THAT much.

Overall a good *mature* movie. Watch it at your own risk.

Well, out the window went my innocence.
Overall, this is a really, really good movie. It had an intense plot, superb acting and even some bloody fighting scenes. There's a lot of passion in the movie, and it seemed 100% real the whole time.
I do have to give a big !!WARNING!! about the intimate scenes though... In all technicality they are pornographic, so if you're under aged/not into that stuff (Like me. eeks, it was horrible) I suggest you either don't watch, or just skip the (many) scenes.

I really enjoyed the movie, but the intimate scenes were a bit too... real.

WARNING! THIS MOVIE IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN! Hell, this movie was barely appropriate for me! lol

It has several very graphic sex scenes. I'm glad I was watching this alone, or else that would've probably been the most awkward 30+ minutes of my life!

All in all I would say this movie is actually really good! It had a good cast and the plot was great. It's definitely worth watching!

The sex scenes was not few. Not just 1 or 2 scenes, but all over the places. That's alot. Except, if one consider this as a porn, maybe we could say there were just "quite a few" sex scenes..

Watch it at your own risk. If you're hasn't exposed to these kind of movie before, I don't recommend you to watch it.

Maybe I am too sheltered, but honestly I considered that to be pornographic, hence why I had to watch the movie in two sittings.(YES I WAS THAT DISTURBED)

HOWEVER; The scenes can be easily skipped/fast-forwarded, and the movie is definitely worth it.
The plot was so intense, and the acting was superb, and the scenes (even the sword fights) were passionate and believable.

      10/10 movie

At the end, i was expecting something like: "Yes i loved you".

    • GisaengTales Apr 14, 2013
That whole concept was a bit confusing. It could have been possible that he THOUGHT he loved him, as he was the ONLY person that he lived and shared a proper relationship with in his whole life, but I guess that wasn't the case.

It was shocking when he said he didn't love him... Love doesn't necessarily mean physical attraction, or that he has to love him in the same way he loved the queen.

There are different types of love and relationships- love is really complex.
It did, however, kill me how the king died knowing he was betrayed/unloved by the person he treasured and protected the most.

      AWESOME MOVIE.

I can't agree more, but i thought he did loved the king, at the first scenes, he seems to be really comfortable having sex and sleeping with the king, this doesn't sound like "not liking at all".

    • GisaengTales Apr 15, 2013
Yuup, hence why I said that the concept was confusing. Their scene seemed pretty passionate, but then again it could have been lust driven.
    • Ranchy Apr 17, 2013
Yeah. I wish he'd said, "I thought I loved you". It'd be perfect if he did.

@terrorizingkids ok I agree he seemed to like sleeping with the King, but it was more technical there were no passion at least I did not felt that. But with the Queen wow that's a whole different story! :D
@Ranchy true this would be a nice ending phrase, but when King was waiting for Hong Lim answer I was saying "say no say no" xD and he did ! :D I think he told him that to hurt him more.
For fox sake King raised him shown him the world and then took everything away by showing him another way. He made him sleep with the Queen, took away his manhood, killed pregnant woman that he loved (as he thought cus of head on the wall), killed and torture his friends/brothers and he still expected love confession from Hong Lim! Come on!!!
As for nude scenes... well I wasn't offended seeing Jo In Sung naked *.*

@tiitek You got a good point there.. but, I think, you can't really blame the King to made him sleep with the Queen, since there's no other way he could get a heir. I can feel how desperate the King to made his beloved lover sleep with other woman. Remember, there was no artificial insemination at that age, so Hong Rim was his only hope, he's the only man the King could trust, and he imagined to be able to treat his beloved one's child as his own child. It's crazy yes, but extreme desperation does lead people to do crazy thing.
When the King took away his manhood, I can't blame the King either. It's Hong Rim's fault to be trapped by lust, he betrayed the King who had trusted him all of his life. I think Hong Rim is such a noble man he won't angry for his own fault here, but yes to the rest.
      1 ❤
    • Ranchy 22 days ago
One thing more, I couldn't really see whether Hong Rim truly love the Queen or not. Most of their sex scenes was only showed lust, and lust, and lust. It's understandable though, since the Queen had been a virgin for too many years, and Hong Rim haven't taste any woman prior to the queen. It's very understandable how they scenes were way more passionate than Hong Rim - King's scene. But once again, love could have come with lust, but lust is not always love. If they want, I believe they could make more romantic scene for Hong Rim & Queen (either erotic or not).
You make sense of how Hong Rim was just too angry to him esp for killing and torturing his brothers & lover he just want to hurt him (the King).. Such a tragic story..

Ok panic attack over I see your spoiler comment was deleted ^^
    • tiitek 22 days ago
Well I'm not blaming the King for choosing his lower to do the job. I even saw glimpse of joy when Hong Lim couldn't "perform" in his first night with the Queen. Ofc there wasn't no artificial insemination at that age, so that's true he needed to use somebody else. And I agree with you that he would love Hong Lim child as his own. In King opinion it was the best choice to do so. That was true desperation to keep the throne. But on the other hand he used his lower to keep his power. I did not have any problem killing all people involved cus he felt jealous cus of outcome. I agree Hong Lim was at fault to be trapped by lust, but taking away his manhood was just to cruel punishment for me -.- I agree that decision was made out of anger, he did seen them fucking just before him (that was an epic fail xD) but afterwards I felt King was like 'without "it" he cannot do it with the Queen but he

can do it with me- that's awful and selfish. Or am I to straightforward >.<
Well they shown more lust then romantic moments agree, but I can get that, they had only moments together and they did not waste that xD I think they fell in love thought that lust and passion that was surprising for both of them.
Hong Lim world fell apart then he started to want Queen more and more, that scene when he hugs the Kings while sleeping he looks like a confused baby. Actually I pitted him a lot. I felt their love when he gave her "honey water" for her cold, and when she gave him the hand-made handkerchief, that was the first sign that between those two something changed. And the scene when she prepare meal for him, and those rice cookies I was so touched.
Agree story is tragic, but I loved it nevertheless!

      just realize your reply.
"they had only moments together and they did not waste that xD" ha ha, you cracked me out. You right, I didn't think that way before. About the punishment, well, you can't expect it to be less. Betraying his *king* lover in front of the king's very eyes..? Taking out the manhood is the only fair punishment for him. Hong Rim would probably prefer a dead sentence over it, but the king won't, because it will not give him enough torture for such big sin. Maybe I'm just too mean, but I value loyalty highly, he he.
