her acting is kinda dull, imo. i've only seen 49 Days and it seems like she improved a bit half-way compared to the first episode.. however she's quite pretty. hwaiting for pursuing her career as an actress

A very restrained, one-note actress. She kind of reminds me of Lee Bo Young in this regard, although Bo Young makes an effort (but doesn't always succeed) to add some dynamic to the roles she plays. I feel like this Lee (Yo Won) never truly embraced any voice & movement (with emphasis on movement) class that might have been a part of her training (if she has any) as her acting is perpetually stiff and uptight. She can't seem to relax and allow herself to truly embody the character. She pretty much interprets ALL her roles with the same stone faced severity. I'm not sure I like it. Actually, no, I KNOW I don't like it.

Some people have naturally expressive faces and some don't, I understand that. Those who fall in the latter category perhaps can't change how they outwardly react to things, but a key part of an actor's job (with the help of a good director) is to infuse the character with ticks and quirks which set them a part from any preceding or subsequent character ... whether thru a recurring gesture or action or by how they deliver the text.

Perhaps the best work I've seen of Lee Yo Won is her performance in Golden Empire. While not as captivating and top notch as some of her co-stars, her act was the most dynamic of all her previous works that I've seen. A part of this is due to the excellent material she had to work with (great scripts like this in a Korean drama is, in my experience, very rare) as well as the fact that the character called for an outwardly chilly, restrained, non-emotive demeanor.

Otherwise I've been woefully underwhelmed with her other portrayals. She has unfortunately earned a spot on my blacklist, though I won't say no to a drama where she's present if the story is worthy or if she stars with one of my favourites.

I'll keep it short: I second every word.

Another thing is that in recent years she only chooses the same roles and you can't see any acting improvements there because it feels like her story just continues and changes a bit to match the new drama but it's the same old character.

One of Korea's real talent in acting and really a beauty.
