Salaryman could have done with being split into two separate seasons in order to accommodate the two separate story arcs properly, but despite the change in tone halfway through Salaryman was still great watch. Salaryman has one of the most capable female leads ever - probably the only capable female lead to enter the world of Dramaland. Baek Yeo Chi has both a fearless and an unapologetic attitude; the girl is not afraid to use that sharp tongue of her's (which actually matches her sharp wit and mind). She uses the fact that people underestimate her to her advantage, manipulating the situation at hand in order to fulfill her motives and boy is it fun to watch. I actually hated Jung Ryeo Won in My Name is Kim Sam Soon (yes, her character had cancer but I'm a terrible person), so I didn't really expect much from her Salaryman but she absolutely hit the nail on the head when it came to Yeo Chi. She managed to retain all of Yeo Chi's charms even when the character transitioned from selfish bitch to a bitch with humanity, and she also made the transition believable. I guess she's a good actress for making me hate her in Sam Soon and then make me love her in Salaryman. The characters/actors in Salaryman were more fleshed out and developed than some aspects of the plot. When it was dominant, the satire was absolutely brilliant, winking at every cliche that was in the plot and doing it with much flair too - might I add. However, after the halfway point the drama lost that satirical flair and slipped into melodrama (the good kind though). I wasn't too bothered by this, but the writer did try to include too many plot points that I feel he didn't have the time to completely wrap up thus leading important aspects to get glossed over. The ending didn't give me complete closure in regards to some legal aspects, the other main couple and male lead. Like most other dramas, in dramaland, Salaryman loses the chance to gain a perfect 10 because of the ending's failure to tie up all the loose ends in a nice little package. Nonetheless, it is still worth the watch. Jung Ryeo Won's Baek Yeo Chi probably goes down as THE best K-Drama female in history.
