Was good, I liked it ^^. Kind of like a double length episode of The Untamed in the vein of the Xue Fang character/story in Yi city, with an added dash of some Wen Ning personal growth (more than just a cinnamon roll ????).

The story setting is a night hunt in a town where they're afraid of lighting their houses at night for fear of attracting killer ghosts, so, while the film producers have still shot it very well for that kind of low lighting story background, people might need to adjust their monitor's brightness level up a bit.

My only strongly felt criticism of it would be that the music score wasn't really in keeping with The Untamed series. I would've appreciated the connection to the series background within the movie's soundtrack. Our memories of our experiences are founded on our senses, and like smell and taste, hearing/sound also matters in that respect. The electric guitar soundtrack in the big fight scene kinda grated on me. Hopefully my pointing this out doesn't ruin that scene for you. It's not that the electric guitar ruins the scene, it does kind of fit in it's own way. I just didn't think it thematically aligned to the series.

Fangirls (and boys) of the source material 'Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation' will likely whine a lot about the lack of their favorite fantasy love/p?rn match, but I'm good with it. I appreciate the delving into the side characters as main characters in their own right. If anything I would've like to know the story about Wen Ning reverting back to wearing the chains. Also, too short, I want MOARRRRRRR!!!! I guess I'll have to hang around waiting for the next spin off ????. Hopefully the next one is released before that 1st month free of VIP iqiyi subscription runs out or else I might actually have to keep the subscription! (Meh, not too much of a pain, I tend to watch mainly c-drama/fantasy these days anyway, which is saying something on the state of television in english speaking countries since that is the only language I speak).

The same people might also whine a bit about how Wen Ning suddenly seems to be a capable adult when compared to the series. I would argue that it wasn't that Wen Ning wasn't a capable adult in the series, so much that he is conformable to Wei Wu Xian in Wei Ying's presence ... and in the series he is generally seen in Wei Ying's presence.

In keeping with 2 of the 4 ratings areas of music and rewatch value, I took half a mark off because that electric guitar in the big fight scene and general lack of consistency of score in line with the series (there were moments that aligned but otherwise...), and half a mark off for rewatch value. It isn't a heavy impact or ground breaking piece of drama that makes you want to commit yourself to rewatching it annually, but it is something to revisit on a rainy day if you feel like it.

Edit: After thinking about it a bit more had a bit further to add. (I've always been long-winded. Duìbùqǐ) The series is heavy on the feelings of the despair due to the inevitabilty of human failings and the comfort of comradery amidst that despair. This movie is light on those emotions. This might also lead to some viewers feeling underwhelmed.
--------------
A side note: in the lead up I was kind of hoping this movie was going to be the exploration of the Wen medicine family's death story since (1) that's what SuiZhui and Wen Ning have in common and (2) their sacrifice scene in saving everyone from the horde of attacking corpses in the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation novel didn't get in to The Untamed series. I thought the exploration of that story aspect might have also been able to lead to some good character growth for both Wen Ning and SuiZhui. That hope is obviously unfulfilled ... but I'll cling on to it. Maybe it's something they'll think of doing in future... ????????

This is a great movie! The story is well executed, but in some frames is isn't quite clear what it was going about. Also I hoped on some more background information from certain characters. But it did came out very good.
I loved the action, from beginning till end I was in the movie. And I really enjoyed the funny parts! It had me lauging out loud. And the funny parts are acceptable and it is not to much.
The best thing in this movie for me where te fighting scenes! I even felt my own adrenaline rushing in those scenes!
Also this movie is serious and has a story to tell so it isn't just fun and games!
This is a action packed movie, with hilarious (acceptable) parts, a good story and in the end you'll get rammed up some feels! I would recomment anyone to watch this, this ain't a waste of time! I enjoyed this movie and rewatch this anytime!

i specifically watched this show coz of sang woo and gong yoo. soo hot but sang woo looked too old to be play a high school kid. ha neul did her best too though she couldve been given more balsy characteristics to match sang woo. i was looking forward to the falling in love moments but it looked generic how fast it happened and i got disappointed. the show had funny moments and the last scene with kicking balls is awsome too.

This is one of the greatest movies ever, but is not a movie that is liked or better to say understood by many. The story develops not based on talking, but just develops based on acting.
The acting is great! One of the best I've seen so far. The whole movie is very well made.
Its a masterpiece....

After watching it on TV I wanted to rewatch it. I searched for it in internet and in real life.
Can't tell how happy I was then I finally found it.

Why I wrote this? Just to get you to watch this!

Erm well its certainly different to anything ive watched. Mostly revenge , I sort of liked it but I found it strange to be honest. They did the revenge then moved on. no real love connection or nothing. I was rather disappointed but still it was good enough to watch. Beware there is some nudity but apart from that it was an interesting storyline.

Bad plotting, pacing and a jumbled final cut. How's that for an honest summary?

Wow, is this one a hot mess?

Have you ever read one of those comics with the "OP MC" (Over-Powered Main Character, for those who don't know) tag? Well, that's what we have right here!
The plot is almost nonsensical, the story jumps from set-piece to set-piece and the lead is so ridiculously OP that he literally walks through mobs, killing everyone without batting a eyelid. Dumb coincidences add to his invincible plot armour and, by the time this trash ends, you'll likely be thankful for a relatively short running time.

The fights are so-so, but the film is very well made - definitely not an amateur effort - and the woman who plays the lead's wife is gorgeous. These are pretty much the only pros I can think of!
An annoying female lead (the 17 year old), a toothless main villain and a motive revealed at the end that really doesn't make much sense are all pretty big complaints, but the film earned an extra half star for showing behind the camera clips during the end credits, which I've always enjoyed and were probably made popular by Jackie Chan.
Speaking of which, there are still a few of his films I've not seen and I'm sure any of those would've been more fun than this!

This movie is an ordinary run of the mill tragic story. From the beginning to end, hardly any parts felt original. They were all filled with boring cliches. This movie seemed to be influenced a lot by Koizora. But of course, it was probably better.

Inoue Mao was one of the reasons to watch this film. I expected it to be good and touching. I did feel bad for the hero, but it failed to be anything more. I would say I have seen better movies of the 'pure love' genre. I would call this is a disappointment because it had a lot of potential. The movie begins on a very serious note and stays that way till the end.

It was easy to predict the ending of this movie. It lacked originality. However, the romance was sweet and touching. The acting department was alright and not one of the strongest points. I won't be remembering this movie fondly because it was pretty forgettable to me.

It is recommended to only those who love the young love movies with tragedy attached to it.

Initially, i thought the story plot was quite interesting and the cast seemed great. Yet the film turned out to be a bore, with a lot of fighting scenes that did not seem to have any significance and just swearing. I watched this for Lee Jong Suk yet i can't help but still skip certain parts of the movie.

After watching the trailer, "Ohh! Is it just like Love and Other Drugs, Friends with Benefits or Leap Year?".. Then curiosity comes!

Then after watching it.. "WOW!" (with a big smile).. It really fascinate me that I can't get over how it moved me. Actors were really great! As for me, it's as good as the three movies I mentioned above.

An unusual BL story with a lot of sexual themes but has a underlying theme of life itself

"Life" and "Sex" these two are the most important themes of this movie.

So far out of all of the Japanese BL movies I have watched this has been the most extreme. I can't describe it but there's a lot of sex/BDSM set in a horror/slasher setting. I honestly thought someone was going to get murdered lol.

But even through there was a lot of sexual content there is still a underlying theme that is about life itself. Japan has a high suicide rate and it's important for this work to address that. To be able to live and love that's the underlying message.

Even though compared to the manga there's big changes in the 2nd half of the movie, it still manages to deliver the message of life to the movie and have some really hot sex scenes to boot!

The actors did an amazing job in their roles. For a 1st time role Watanabe Sho really gives his all in his scenes not only emotionally and physicaly. Kitadai is really good he played the seme role really well and also played his role
emotionally and physicaly well. Together the sexual chemistry they produced was pretty amazing to watch.

I want to praise director Jojyou Hideo as well, the set locations for this movie is great. It was a great idea to have the setting for most of the sexual scenes to be in the basement of a hospital it really added to the horror atomsphere.
The shots are beautiful if the location is in a basement or an graveyard.

I admit this movie is not for everyone, there's pretty much little consent in the sexual scenes (apart from the ending sex scene) and it's not very sexy (again apart from the ending sex scene). Also the BDSM sexual scenes might be too
extreme for general BL fans who want a more gentle sweeter kind of romance. Plus the themes of life, death and suicide is quite heavy and direct for some. But for those who are looking for a different kind of BL story that is dark, sexy and deep this movie might be for you!

Beautifully sad love in a illusory and unrealistic story

Distinguish between movies that create interesting fantasy stories and movies that talk about stories that happen in everyday life but make no sense. The first one is a movie genre, but the second one is a failure. If you want to create a compelling story that happens in everyday life, you're going to want the story to be as real as possible, I mean, the characters, the dialogue in the movie has to be very natural and look good, like a documentary film. About this movie, it's pretty illusory. I mean, there are details that make me laugh, they just can't happen in real life. So the story in the movie also has no truth.

It's really a pity, because I really love the love between the two main characters in the movie, the relationship between them is as gentle as the wind, very poetic and beautiful, I mean their acting, very natural and attractive. I can compare this love to everyone's childhood memories, things that are beautiful but no one can experience again in their life. Because I liked this love story so much, I was even more upset with the detective investigation story in the movie, too complicated and confusing. The detail of Seo-rae going to the police station making the fire alarm ringing is too ridiculous, it's a police station, not a school. No matter how smart she is, she can't do it so comfortably, she's no god. Even Hae-joon and Ji-goo's chase scene and the scene where they fight while Miss Seo-rae peeks from inside the car, what? She's not a super cop to be able to drive after them from start to finish. This makes no sense. The character Seo-rae is a complicated and unpredictable person who falls in love with Hae-joon, but the director only shows us that she is a girl like Gone Girl's Amy Dunne towards the end of the film, due to so I can't sympathize with her death, which the director could have done better.

The fact that Seo-rae was brutally beaten by Do-soo was only mentioned once, through the doctor's account with Hae-joon. Do-soo even stamped his wife, right? And with Hae-joon's love and concern for Seo-rae, he doesn't question her injuries, not even a word. Am I missing something, or does Hae-joon have amnesia? Or the doctor gave the wrong patient's medical record and X-ray film? Not to mention the absurdity of Hae-joon having feelings for Seo-rae just because she's pretty and good looking? Give me one good reason why a police officer who is questioning a suspect falls in love with the suspect. Even the identity of Seo-rae's grandfather is a detail that needs attention, it can't be used as a reason for Seo-rae to kill her own mother.

It is also a pity that the supporting characters in the film, Hae-joon's wife, young inspector Soo-wan and the female assistant, Hae-joon's boss, Hae-joon's son, Ho-shin, Do-soo, San-Oh, Chul-sung... they're all just useless puppets in the movie, none of them leave an impression, it's a waste of characters. The fact that there are so many characters that do not affect the two main characters makes the story of the supporting characters seem to be thrown away.

Another unfortunate detail that is missed is that Inspector Hae-joon has dry eyes, is it because he has trouble sleeping? Anyway he often uses a bottle of solution to put in his eyes, and after all this detail is not important, just a guy who likes to put liquid in his eyes, over.

I really wish Park Chan-wook could have made this movie simpler, with fewer supporting characters, connecting them with the main characters so deeply and solving the absurd details, turning Seo-rae into a The girl looks like a normal person. This could make this movie a living novel. Because I really like the scenes in the movie, the angles, the scenes with the colors in the movie, even the metaphorical details and the cutscenes, they are all very unique and personal. Music is also a point of interest for me, sometimes the tunes appear very timely and full of passion, but sometimes a bit too much, making me not like it very much.

And lastly, I don't know if this is true or not, but it seems that the police characters in the film are portrayed unduly poorly, they look almost incompetent and useless, or this is a hint of disparagement of the police industry by the director? I don't know lol and in the movie too much use of cell phones and smart devices, as well as scenic locations, I guess this is for advertising purposes? Too obvious, isn't it? To me, these things made the movie less interesting. They should reduce these.

This movie has quite the low rating on MDL, and if I were to guess the reason, it's probably because of people's expectations. So, before talking about anything else, let me be clear about this one part: It's not a movie that starts with scary alleys and continues with lots of jump-scares throughout the film. Well, okay, it does start with a dark alley. But it's those typical five minutes into the movie to have a starting point and to make the viewers curious.

The plot is nothing new and it reminds a bit of The Rite (with Anthony Hopkins), not so much of the original Exorcism though. Most of the story is pretty calm, it takes its time to introduce the characters through flashbacks which works pretty well in my eyes. But it still doesn't waste time as the story proceeds at the same time to slowly build up the suspense. And when you reach the climax, you'll also get your jump-scares and some bloody byproducts.

The movie works well because the camera and editing did a good job and because the cast was great. They gave life to their characters, and made them convincing and palpable. I can't tell much about Kim Yoon Seok or Kang Dong Won because I haven't seen either much with them or anything at all. If I did, it's been so long that I can't remember. But they were splendid. I do know Park So Dam and I also know that she's a great rising actress. She didn't let me down here either and her performance of a quite peculiar figure was excellent.

So, for me an enjoyable ride and a nice presentation of a Christian exorcism in a modern Korea. Of course, still kinda predictable but it's always interesting to see how far and in which directions the movie makers go with the exorcism elements. If you expect something scary and want to hide behind your sofa every few seconds, don't watch this. But if you're fan of the cast and don't mind calmer horror films that focus a bit more on the characters' relations, then be welcome and go ahead.

(But I have to advise you to find good subs, because those are essential to bond with the characters and make you invested in them)

This movie really blew me away..... I looked it up...and it looked good and interesting, I decided to watch it....

Howling shows the viewers what and how reality is.....the exact picture.... how women are been treated poorly, even though we say we are in a civilised and developed world....The issues causing chaos -- drugs, sex trafficking, prostitution and all..... What happens when you overstep your boundaries when talking to your boss.... Family issues

I love animals, as in dogs, cats and the rest.....but keeping them as pets isn't a tempting offer ....but I couldn't stop the tears.... We have the story of the wolf (wolfdog), how it was trained.....

Howling is all about making use of the system and thinking out of the box to get what you want.....well that's what was done in Howling....

It's WORTH the watch.... I'm not good at re-watching movies and all, that's why it's a 7...

It doesn't need romance

Omg! First of all! How the heck is Soo joong-ki looking so young in here!
Anyway, the story was pretty interesting in beginning. Loved Joong ki's innocent character. The story was flowing along interestly and pretty good showing the male lead's hardships. I was hoping it would continue that way. However, along came the female lead. And the story got dulled and became your boring ol' korean "romance" drama. Like can't we just get a good korean movie without turning it into romance?
Yeah, suddenly the story just focused on this girl and how they fell in love. BORING!
The story just became your typical korean love drama! 💔
