Awesome!
I loved Marry My Dead Body's (What a title! What a concept!) combination of a ghost romance with a cop drama murder mystery story. It was really well done and I adored both of the main characters and their relationship. The acting, production, and special effects were all great. In addition, the comedy was fantastic - I laughed out loud the entire time, except when I was waiting with bated breath for the next development in the story or bawling my eyes out. I 10/10 recommend this awesome movie and will be rewatching it soon. Was this review helpful to you?

Fantastic Cdrama!
A friend of mine introduced me to this drama. I was hooked and finished it in less than a week. This is a story of individuals that are broken and abandoned,. From that tragedy a captivating and very engaging love story that viewers will totally enjoy watching.Great acting, great chemistry and beautiful looking cast!
I do have one pairing that I strongly disagree regarding their storyline. Love and hate relationship is a good recipe for developing a sizzling chemistry but not when it’s romanticizing a very abusive relationship. Xiang Liu’s character is a full blown abuser, the repeated scenes where he assaulted her and throws her off like a piece of trash, kicked the branch of a tree, fell down and broke her arm, that made me sick to my stomach. The author did a good job portraying this toxic relationship. Every time XL will reach out to touch Xiao Yao will right away in a fetal position as a response to extreme stress and fear.
The cousins or leading couple Cang Xuan and Xiao Yao chemistry and storyline are riveting, beautiful and alarming, due to his hidden strong feelings for the FL.
It’s refreshing that this is not those typical dramas which the main male lead gets the girl.
Second male lead Tushan Jing and Xiao Yao has the best and sizzling chemistry, nontoxic and yet so romantic. Writer is doing a great job portraying a character who has been through so much trauma and betrayal, still manages to be a great strategist with a kind heart. . Deng Wei’s character looks fragile but has the greatest strength in all of them.
I totally enjoyed and love this series, I will definitely be watching season two when it comes out.
Best Asian drama of this year! Highly recommend.

I was crying alongside the characters of this drama. I never thought that it was a family drama and I like this type of dramas. I felt what I should feel and I really like how they portray the love of a father. One of the dramas that is rare and really worth the time and watch.
Best line:
Dae Young: ‘No matter how old you get, there is always something new to learn. If you think it as a regret, that’s the end of it. But when you think of it as a lesson learned, it brings a new beginning.

For me, this drama is one of those dramas that I could watch to just have a finished drama and to let the time pass. The actors did well, and the leads are not new in my eyes as I have seen their other works.

Romcom and slowburn done right
I honestly don't know where to begin with because I feel like once I do I will not be able to stop haha. I started this plainly out of curiosity because I wanted to watch something that is heavy but not too gritty. I thought I would drop it after 5 episodes but BOY was I surprised! 😅 And impressed in equal measures.I will not prolong this since other reviewers pretty much said everything there is to be said. It's probably one of the best historical drama and cdrama I have seen easily. It strikes an wonderful balance between romance, family dynamics, revenge, growing up, political intrigue with the help of superb cinematography, script, music, acting. It has its slow moments in a way it doesn't feel draggy or boring.Despite not being a thriller, action, or mystery it manages to keep in your toes and that's probably one of the best aspect of this drama.
Highly recommend to anyone who is still deliberating on watching this and is intimidated by the episode list because honestly you will be sweet odd you won't even realize when did you manage to watch first 25 episodes in 1 week like me!

A fluffy period rom-com that is a pale imitation of the original
This show is a remake of the 2000 original of the same name which some considered a classic. We shall review this show on its own merits first, but we shall run some comparisons towards the end so that we can reference the scoring.Let’s have a look at this show from a 2023 perspective. The show has good production value, and a decent cast. There are technically 2 main couples (plus a couple of secondary ones) but the 1OTP consisting of Tian Xi Wei and Ao Rui Peng is clearly the primary couple. They are on screen about 60% of the time and their plotline is the A-plot. Oddly enough, the 2OTP is more interesting and have more depth, yet they are relegated to a support role. This would not be a big problem but for the fact that Tian is not well suited to this role. While Tian has starred in several period dramas including the highly rated New Life Begins. Her typical role is a cute, sassy girl, but this show calls on her to be a well-trained martial artist and she just doesn’t pull it off. The closest she got is awkward brashness. The few fighting scenes were obvious done by her stunt double. This makes her character a bit lopsided and feels simple minded. The 1ML is a more rounded character. He is very intelligent but also a skilful fighter. This makes this pairing even more uneven. They have their sweet moments but hardly the ideal “accidental” pairing which is the raison d’etre of the show.
On the other hand, the second pairing of Bai Bing Ke and Zhao Shun Ran do truly complement each other. Zhao’s textbook portrayal of a general is solid and he has the gravitas for this role. Bai’s role is completely different from Tian’s. While she is supposed to be a high born lady, she also has a pin sharp intellect, well versed in many subjects including the art of war and a quick learner to boot. Theirs is a perfect marriage of brain and brawn. While 1ML seems to spend more time explaining the plot to the 1FL and rescuing her from self-infected troubles. I know that’s how the script is written but I can’t help but wonder what will happen if 1ML marries 2FL? That will be one power couple!
Overall, the show is a low angst, watchable rom-com. It is low angst because the show has this propensity of dismantling its own tension. All the antagonist's machinations against our leads are foiled by chance or by our clever 1ML or 2FL in quick succession. The script painted him as an evil mastermind but he is made to look impotent. It got to the point that we'd assume our leads will win regardless. Another issue is plots that were once fresh are now considered cliché. This turns the show into a “mealtime” show. You don’t need to pay it much attention while doing other things.
In the end, this show is a fluffy, watchable period rom-com that is on par with many other recent ones. Everything is acceptable but hardly memorable. There is nothing wrong with that except this is supposed to be a remake of the 2000 original. From that perspective, a quick comparison is warranted.
It is obvious from the start that the plot is the same, and they have replicated many scenes as well. We can see the similarities as well as deviations. Unfortunately, what is missing are scenes and dialogues that gave the original its depth yet they padded this version out from 20 to 24 eps. Can't say that this helps the pacing. The OG characters do felt more nuanced and animated. There are more skinship in the original and they are also more passionate. This surprised me. The modern version looks and feels generic and sanitised. If this is what modern interpretation means, then we have gone backwards. If this was a stand-alone drama, I might have scored it a little higher but it really doesn't do justice to the original.
If you are interested, the original series is available on YouTube with English sub.

I had to drop it because the story is absolute garbage
Like many, after watching Maid's revenge, I was very excited about this drama. The story is the worst story I have ever seen in a Chinese drama so far (and I have watched many). I will tell you some plot holes so big that if they were on the ground, they would become massive sink holes devouring entire skyscrapers. Whoever approved of this script was out of their mind.SPOILERS AHEAD
1. Since Lin Xin Tong is a rich heiress, why does she continue to live in the same house as her murderous fiance and toxic ex friend after the ..10 times they openly tried to kill her? The plot could have made so much more sense if she went to stay with Qin Mo Yao or at least to a hotel, but no, she could sleep peacefully in her bed with 2 murderers (who also killed her father) next door.
2. Qin Mo Yao is not a man in love. He is a liar and stalker who then becomes obsessed with her and treats her as if she is stupid and mentally incapable of making even the most basic decisions. When Lin Xin Tong's fiance gives their names to a gang to kill them, Qin Mo Yao manages to ''pass their 3 trials'' that no one ever survived (we don't see how and have no idea what those trials are) and the death contract is dropped. Completely unrealistic and nonsensical.
3. Lin Xin Tong is probably one of the most annoying female characters ever, she alternates between confessing her love to Qin Mo Yao, then finding something he did and leaving him, then running to his house the minute she finds out he has some (minor) injury and behaves like a mentally unstable borderline person and not as someone who is genuinely in love in a healthy way. Whoever wrote this hot mess clearly does not know how people in love behave.
4. There is a lot of sexual harassment from Lin Xin Tong 's part (removing Qin Mo Yao's clothes while he is drunk and unconscious, forcing him to drink, demanding to touch his naked body when she was blind) and if a man did any of those things to a woman who is employed under him the show would have been cancelled. Very toxic and promotes problematic and sexually abusive behaviors that shouldn't be normalized.
The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back: the last 3 episodes I watched were an incoherent rambling about companies, shares and stocks written by someone who has no idea about any of these things. I almost died out of boredom and had to drop the show to save my sanity.
Rewatch value: zero. Just rewatch Maid's revenge instead.
