It's really enjoyable overall, except for some parts

I really like it for the 1st 7 episodes or so and it just dropped....I mainly love how fluffy and cute they are at beginning, esp when they are bickering and teasing each other. I especially love Shin's attitude. He seems to be way more mature than Minato despite the age gap!

I'm glad eventually Minato sort things out and it all work out, but the drag makes me feel a bit frustrated at some point, honestly. I continued watching bcoz I wanna know the ending, which luckily didn't disappoint

I'll still say its worth the watch overall. I was really really happy for most part, just a bit draggy towards the end, which actually is so common in many dramas. Or maybe, im just impatient lol

Oh, I love the music, its so cute that I didn't skip the intro and actually enjoy watching. I also love the setting where we keep seeing ocean, makes me feel like im healing too. Makes me wonder how it feels like to stay in a town like that where the beach is clean. not overly commercialized, just locals hanging out, like big communal family. Must have been nice

Shuuu sensei is so cute!! Thats a brownie point as to why I keep on watching too

Tenho valor

everyone has their own backstory.

i enjoyed this series! i happen so to randomly come over this series but oh man, i do not regret it. this show is severely underrated btw!

this show has its comedy side, touching side and each main character has their own tragic backstory that will be revealed slowly. everyone might be slow, dumb yet goofy but their backstory really breaks my heart. the build up with the backstory is amazing, the way they have healed but the wound opened up again to get the actual closure needed. my top few eps are 14, 16, 18 and 22. if you watch the scene, you would understand why i really enjoyed these episodes.

they are fated that they all met at by jumping of the cliff and naming themselves by the wording 3, 4 and 5 inside in. it was so funny! they are "found family" as they found comfort within each other while facing their struggles, while understanding each other without saying much, while supporting each other and stay with each other no matter what.

i enjoy the friendship between all the characters and if you are wondering if there is any romance... it is like lowkey and not that obvious. you get to enjoy many different cp types of feels. if you are wondering how i am shipping, its 3+5 and 4+ji. i am waiting for the next season as the ending wrote, "the first season ended"

however, mango's subbing is bullshit because as a chinese, i saw the chinese wordings and the english subs, i am closed to vomit blood. it is so so badly subbed. so for those who does not understand, you might need to wait for better subs. like they subbed 你相信我吗? - it was supposed to be "do you believe me?" but they subbed to "do you miss me?" ...??!!

as for the acting, i think they did a good job! the main characters ranges from '97 to '02 and their acting is good! what i love is that their are a lot of dramatic and big expression type of scenes but they are able to not overact and overdo it. with the right amount that you won't think that it is too over the top and get annoyed about it.

it might seem boring at first but as it goes on, it will get better. trust me. anyways, please give this show a chance! thank you~

A really good kdrama!!!!!

A really good kdrama. I can say that the characters in the story are beautiful, nice and each with their own character; but not only that, the plot does not tire but rather encourages the viewer to have even more fun as the episodes continue. Not to mention Min Min, the cutest character in the story, who is in love with the protagonist and tries in every way to make her forget her current love and make her fall in love with him with his arrogant sweetness.<3
I recommend everyone to see it.

Don't like zombies, but like this!

Full credit to the star power of Park Hyung Sik.... I really don't like anything horror/zombie/gore/jump scare - just not my cup of tea, at all. But I love PSH so I gave this a try solely for him, and ya know, I'm glad I did. Sure the gore was there, but honestly it was well done and not over the top. It was never "gore, just to be gross and shocking", and I appreciated that. PSH knocked it out of the park with his character, which, I fully expected - he never disappoints! But an unexpected gem for me was the FL. I absolutely loved her. She was so badass, but believably so, and stayed true to who she was through the entire series. I can see why ML harbored feelings for her all those years ;-) I'm half in love myself lol. This show is worth watching just for the two main leads alone - they really were terrific!

Overall score: 8.5/10. I want to give this a 10 (because PSH lol) but I've got to take off .5 off the bat for the zombie theme, and then another full point because I thought the whole plot line surrounding Andrew was a little silly... like, what are the odds of not one but TWO run of the mill killers living in the same apartment building... yikes. I think they could have built drama at the end with a different storyline, but it definitely wasn't so bad that it ruined the show. I'm also taking off .5 because I thought they could have built up the romance throughout the show a bit more... that really would have **chefs kiss** the whole thing... some glances, some light touches, more hugs - there was a bit of that, but I wanted more... more to build the romantic tension so that you really felt it when you finally got that kiss. I also would have loved a second kiss in that final scene when everyone was healthy and happy. Kinda bummed that the only kiss we got was wrapped up in zombie stuff.

And yes I know all that equals 2 full points, but I'm adding back in .5 just because I enjoyed PHS so much. Turns out I'll watch anything he's in... even zombies ;-)

Lighthearted, cute, but very cliché acting

This felt more like a pantomime on the stage. The slapstick, over the top shyness, and charicature like characters made in it feel like they were trying to cater to the back of the audience in a large theatre. The main character actors did well though and the story was cute and fun. It was just too stagey for me and too obvious that they were acting. It almost felt meta at times. But all in all this is a nice show to watch if you’re getting over a great show and you’re not ready to commit to another intense one straight after.

Hilarious

I literally had soooooooo much fun watching this drama...I do lowkey wish they had more elaborated story and more episodes, but I do understand that keeping it simple is more charming.
The cast was selected sooooooooooo perfectly....I absolutely loved everyone on this drama.

I did feel extremely uncomfortable by that one totally unnecessary scene of the main antagonist...The drama would've been much better without that kinda scene.

Overall, a really good drama and totally worth my time...♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Slow-Burn Pining Into Wildfire, Great Through Ep 6.

Spoilers only at bottom of review. 8 Episodes total. Finished series & updated review 10/15/23.
I'm conflicted on how to rate this because Ep 2 through 6 are awesome & I would easily rate a 9/10. I know I'll re-watch them multiple times. But Ep 7 & 8 are cringy for multiple reasons and I would rate them a 4/10. Such a disappointment. Still, I loved most of the main couple's story so much that I've decided on 8/10 as my overall rating. When I watch again, I will likely either stop after the first scene in Ep 7, or skip to the 2nd half of Ep 8 to finish.

Wonderful acting by the two leads, decent plot Ep 1-6 but ridiculous plot Ep 7-8, smooth-flowing dialogue *until Ep 7, some lovely cinematography, okay music, meh side characters.

The first episode is a bit overly goofy, and though it did get a few chuckles out of me, I was glad to see that toned down in the second episode as the character interactions and emotions became the focus.

The actors playing Yang and Phumjai are fantastic. There are a lot of sweet moments between the characters and the actor's chemistry is palpable, like magnets. They both also really nail the nuances of overlapping feelings; puting on a certain mask to others while the character's true emotions are just under the surface and still visible for the audience to see. Their chemistry and the way they interact with each other quickly drew me in and got my emotions invested. Their characters and the way they act them are my favorite thing about this series.

The friend Tag and the girl Tammy are acted well and feel like real people. I especially like how Tammy is written; I didn't like her character at first but her actions and communication skills won me over.

The brother is not acted or written well, he feels like the weak link, though his character gets slightly more likeable by the end. The other side characters are more like caricatures; over-the-top and lacking depth. Because the series is only 8 episodes, I was okay that they didn't spend a lot of time rounding these people out in Ep 1-6. But then Ep 7 & 8 relied on them more heavily and the simplistic writing and acting got annoying (especially in situations that were supposed to be serious and dire).

There are some beautiful shots utilizing space and lighting that, to me, underscored the bitter-sweet lonliness of pining. The feeling of being a part from others as you hold your thoughts to yourself.

Sometimes the background music was good, but at other times it did not fit the mood of scenes well (for example, positive major chords being played during an emotionally sad moment). It's probably not obvious enough to bug most people, but it distracted me from scenes a couple of times.

GENERAL SPOILERS:
The intimate scene at the end of Ep 6 had a similar feeling to Love In The Air nc-17 scenes, and I learned it had a similar approach: the actors improvised the scene as their characters (except for a couple of lines). It is BOTH emotional and hot, the best combination in my opinion. It feels very real. And this scene will be memorable for a couple of reasons, you'll see ;)
In Ep 7 & 8 there's a good amount of affectionate skinship and a couple of emotionally charged kisses.

Ep 7 & 8: Ugh, what a way to unravel the magic. The writers, director, editors, and most of the actors created a muddled mess. There was obvious confusion about what mood/tone was the goal. On one hand, there's a very serious situation, on the other, the side characters continue their over-acted comic relief. Things that were supposed to be serious were undermined by lightheartedness or ridiculousness, and what were supposed to be feel-good moments or humorous were not because they were poorly done (& poorly timed) and ridiculous. Tension is completely disolved.

!SPECIFIC SPOILERS!:
Further frustrations with Ep 7 & 8 (I just needed to vent):

Why is it that in most BLs calling the police (or for an ambulance) is treated like an afterthought? You think you're boyfriend is kidnapped and you call and wait for your brother, your employees, and your friend to show up and ask "what should I do?"? This is so obviously unrealistic it's just lazy writing for plot contrivance trying to wring our emotions.

The older brother didn't have any savings of his own to help out instead of "being a hostage"? And neither of the brothers thought to ask their very weathly parents for a loan (instead of one of their sons being a hostage)? Get real. If the situation was as dire as the script pretends it is, something could have been worked out with the loving, supportive parents.

The creditor goes from being set up as a scary mob-like antagonist (though this is not pulled off well), to a waffling basic business man. A dire situation spearheaded by a buffoon lowers the stakes and can't hold tension (or the audiences attention).

The completely unnecessary and eye-rolling cliche of the discovery of a young childhood connection. Thankfully, it was brief and didn't have an impact on the story.

Comparison Time

Okay so have seen both the original and the adaptation and I will say it without any regrets: The Original Is A 100x Better!

Now Comparison Time:
The love Gu Hai showed in these 15 episodes was way better than Wu Bai
The original series was about them unlike the adaptation where they cared about every character's story unfortunately and put equal focus on them
Of course the original had some faults but which show doesn't?
This drama is up on my high-priority list!
I was going to wish for a season 2 from the original but that is never going to happen so I will patiently wait for a season 2 from the adaptation
The adaptation itself was not bad but it was a bromance that you had to imagine as a BL.
However, I do understand the Chinese censorship.
The original was a straight-up BL and you don't need to imagine anything at all.
Both of them have a high rating from my side. I like both the couples and I think their chemistry is off the charts if compared with some leading Thai BLs.

Summary: Feel free to watch both stories and while you wait for another season, feel free to read more than 100 chapters of the book :D

One of my favorite TV shows

Short, sweet, and easygoing TV show. I frequently fast-forward through the side plots of most TV shows because they don't hold my interest, but in this case, every scene was worth watching.

Pluses:
1. Good chemistry between the two main characters
2. Personal growth of female characters
3. Ji Chang-Wook is adorable in this TV show, especially when he is upset. I rewatch sometimes just for this.
4. Easy-going city vibe
5. There's no needless parent or auntie drama, which I can't stomach

Minus:
1. The 17th episode was strange and boring

Ayan is not here

my favorite character is ayan and i have to say, the writers did not know the character. it feels like this is just a special of khaotung (as in another story) and not “The eclipse” cause the character ayan is nowhere to be found. AYAN IS A COMMUNICATOR A STRAGHTFOWARD CHARACTER THAT LOVES CONFRONTING EVERYTHING EVEN OR SPECIALLY WHEN DIFFICULT, he is one of the best characters he has morals and his own code the BEST and in this one: he is deceiving in the worst ways.

Also as a stand alone; lacks in story.

My boy is an uber duper walking green flag

*happy ending*

Ha ram, my man. You are now in my list of BL leads that I wish my future boyfriend would be. My gosh he is such a green flag that it is almost unrealistic, but how I wish this is real... Somewhere out there haha.

I love Lee Jun's acting the best. Very expressive eyes. The least acting in this series is DK. My gosh, its like he just memorized the whole script and read it out loud. Almost ruined Lee Jun's scene with his poor acting.

This series also has the longest kiss scene so far of all korean bls i have watched. Too bad they still kiss like birds.

For a short series, this is one of the best. Very sweet and something that you would rewatch.

Music Conquers All

This is an old drama, and I was extremely intrigued by the plot, so decided to give it a go. The first episode was quite confusing for me, the characters just come and go on in the screen, and no explanations are given as to who is whom. The overall pace of the drama was also a little slow. The editing was also quite jarred, so there were times when the scene cuts were very random. Also the way each episode ended was so annoying, with it stopping at one random scene, and that loud piano shaking the viewer out of their senses. Not necessary to end each episode with a loud BAM on the piano.
The acting, on the other hand, was superb. Top notch acting from all the actors. Yoo Ah In deserves special mention for the absolutely brilliant job that he's done here. The facial expressions of the actors while playing the piano were a bit too loud and exaggerated, but that's okay I guess... It's an old drama, and a melodrama at that. So this much leeway the show deserves I guess. Apart from the lead characters, the rest of the characters felt very unidimensional to me. They were just rich and bitchy. I was annoyed with the Seo family till the very end. Despite these flaws, the actors acted their parts well. No qualms on the acting department.
However, the main star of the show is its OST. It's very rare that k-drama OSTs are musically good. They are either too kpop-ish or they're just loud. But this one does such a brilliant job of maintaining the "Forbidden Affair" theme musically. The music is taut with tension, and so measured, and yet packs so much passion into it.
The ending of the drama was a bit meh, I didn't like the way it ended. The pace was also inconsistent, it got slow at parts, but it still managed to hold the attention of the audience. And that was just because of the OST that stringed each scene and character so well with the progress of the story.
Overall, watch it for the lead couple's acting, and for the interesting subject matter. The lead actors acted really well, and the director treated their romance with care and consideration. It never felt overtly raunchy or oedipal. A decent one time watch.
