A Time Called You: A heartwarming and emotional time-travel romance

Review

The series is a unique and refreshing take on the time-travel genre. It is not your typical time-travel romance, as it does not focus on the mechanics of time travel. Instead, it focuses on the emotional journey of the characters.

The cast gives strong performances. Jeon Yeo-been is particularly good as Lee Yeon-seo. She brings a lot of depth and emotion to the role. Ahn Hyo-seop is also good as Goo Woong. He is charming and likable, and he has good chemistry with Jeon Yeo-been.

The story is heartwarming and emotional. It is a story about love, loss, and second chances. The series will stay with you long after you have finished watching it.

Negative Criticism:

Some viewers have criticized the show for its historical inaccuracies, such as the depiction of scooters in a 19th century Korean school. While this is a valid criticism, it is important to remember that the show is a work of fiction. The creators of the show were not trying to create a historically accurate depiction of Korea in the 19th century. They were simply trying to tell a heartwarming and thought-provoking story.

If you are looking for a heartwarming and emotional time-travel romance, then I highly recommend A Time Called You. It is a unique and refreshing series that will stay with you long after you have finished watching it.

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed A Time Called You. It is a beautiful and moving story about love, loss, and redemption. The drama is full of heart and emotion, and it will stay with you long after you finish watching.

I understand why some people might be critical of the drama's plot holes. However, I believe that the drama's strengths outweigh its weaknesses. The characters are well-developed and relatable, and the story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

If you are a fan of time travel dramas or heartwarming stories, I highly recommend A Time Called You. It is a drama that will stay with you long after you finish watching.

Not for Everyone, but Worth a Watch

Review:

Destined with You is a Korean drama that tells the story of an unlikely couple: a star lawyer and a lowly civil servant who is cursed. The two are drawn together by a forbidden book that contains the secrets of their past and their future.

The drama is a unique blend of genres, including rom-com, supernatural, and mystery. It starts off a bit slow, as it introduces the characters and their world. However, the pace picks up in the later episodes as the plot thickens.

One of the things that sets Destined with You apart from other K-dramas is its strong female lead. Lee Hong-jo, the civil servant, is a complex and well-developed character. She is intelligent, independent, and fiercely loyal to those she cares about.

Jang Shin-yu, the star lawyer, is also a well-developed character. He is initially portrayed as a cold and arrogant man, but he gradually warms up to Hong-jo and shows his vulnerable side.

The chemistry between the two leads is undeniable. They have great banter and their romantic scenes are both heartwarming and passionate.

However, the drama is not without its flaws. The plot can be a bit convoluted at times and some of the subplots are underdeveloped. Additionally, the CGI is not always of the highest quality.

Overall, Destined with You is an enjoyable and entertaining drama. It is not perfect, but it is a unique and refreshing take on the rom-com genre.

Recommendation:

Destined with You is a good choice for fans of Korean dramas who are looking for something different. It is also a good choice for fans of supernatural and mystery dramas. However, it is important to note that the drama starts off a bit slow and the plot can be a bit convoluted at times.

Rating:

7.5 out of 10 stars

Personal Opinion:

I personally enjoyed Destined with You. I liked the unique blend of genres and the strong female lead. I also thought the chemistry between the two leads was great. However, I did find the plot to be a bit convoluted at times and the CGI was not always of the highest quality. Overall, I think Destined with You is a worth watching drama, but it is not for everyone.

promising casts but plot is...

first few episodes were entertaining but loses plot as it progresses. the things that happen in this drama only gets more and more ridiculous. there is one scene where the ML is trapped inside a building or something during a rescue mission and no one (including his firefighter teammates) are able to enter the building and rescue him. for some reason, the FL who is obviously not a certified firefighter can enter a dangerous building and *attempt* to save ML. how unrealistic can it get!!!

there isn't much dramas out there about firefighters and i really want to continue this but its wayyy to dramatic for my liking. sorry to say but SML & SFL is boring to watch too..

Damn I didn't know i needed this ?

When I first heard about this, I couldn't help but wonder, "Superpower? Ability? How could that possibly make for a compelling story?" I was admittedly skeptical, thinking it might not be my cup of tea. However, YouTube, in its infinite algorithmic wisdom, managed to pique my curiosity, so I thought, "Why not give it a shot?" I promised myself that if I didn't like the first episode, I'd simply stop watching it. Little did I know that this decision would lead me on an unexpected journey. As I delved into that initial episode, I found myself drawn into a world unlike any I had experienced before. It was a world filled with intrigue, captivating characters, and unexpected twists. By the time the credits rolled on that first episode, I was hooked, and my initial skepticism had turned into enthusiastic anticipation. What I had assumed might be just another show had, in fact, become an irresistible allure that compelled me to continue watching. Before I knew it, I had embarked on a binge-watching marathon, consuming the entire drama in just one day, a feat I hadn't thought possible. It was a testament to the storytelling prowess and sheer entertainment value of the series. This experience taught me not to judge a book by its cover, or in this case, a show by its premise, as it had turned out to be an unforgettable journey that left me eagerly awaiting the next season.

Simply Good

This is a good show. I am at a stage where I never have high expectations from k-dramas and that serves! And I certainly don't trust these high ass ratings in mdl. I never watched Lee Joon Gi act, and tbh this was me trying him out. I recently watched something easy and felt ready to dive into something so famous and judge it for myself and for once, I'm not disappointed. It was a really easy and addictive binge. Both the leads are very convincing in their roles and Lee Joon Gi was simply phenomenal as Do Hyun Su (I don't dig the loud sobs but still...). The story was okay, I think it had more impact emotionally than as a logical mind-blowing thriller. I loved that the 14 years of marriage between the leads held a proportional significance in the plot, that Ji Won trusted Hyun Su and actually did some police work to build that trust. The serial killing aspect had its allotted amount of horror and I have to say Kim Ji Hoon was positively brilliant in acting uncanny. Mostly the story is pretty plot hole free imo, but leave it to me to point out a few oddities.
1. The big ass coincidence of the actual identity of the accomplice. I usually hate these out of the blue completely random coincidences (bcz these are signs of weak screenplays) though in this one I did not mind bcz they carried the rest with precision.
2. The last part where they have Hyun Su and the accomplice cornered, for some reason they were more scared of Hyun Su. It was weird af. At least Ji Won should've ran towards him, imo.
3. The memory loss, it offered some nice insight into Hyun Su but it still felt so unnecessary at times. For someone who lost an entire life, Hyun Su seemed oddly pretty chill to me.
4. They could've dialed down the sobbing, not a fan of loud outbursts and it just kept happening. You want to give something impact, you reduce the frequency of it.
Despite these, I loved the show, remedy those points and it would've been perfect by all measures but does perfection really exist? This drama is meticulous and none of what happens are quote unquote unrealistic in a logical sense. I cared about the detective unit, the cases that built Cha Ji Won as a character, Hyun Su's sister but though he brought some comedic relief I'm not sure about how good Kim Moo Jin was. Hyun Su was really abused and suffered way too much and I feel like only Ji Won and his sister conveys enough sympathy.
The romance was intense and on spot. I would've loved a little more attention on Hyun Su as an individual rather than being defined by his love for Ji Won. I think a tragedy would've fit this story, those kind of 'missing the happy ending by a singular moment'...'an end to a lifetime of suffering lost bcz of just one stray bullet'...but I guess I'm a masochist.
In any case, I liked this series and enjoyed the complimentary music (especially the classical tunes), the superb acting and the gripping tension which persisted for a considerable amount of time. This is truly something to recommend.

Just like the title, a little annoying.

My Annoying Roommate had potential. I love a high school / teen rom-com. I love small town dramas with a rag-tag cast of friends and uncles and aunties. The FL, Ji Mei Han, is adorable from Make My Heart Smile and her look is VERY popular these days. Everyone loves the big-eyes, baby doll face, so I would say she truly carried the show.

With all that is said and done, with a 12 episode series at 30 mins each, it would seem in theory this show would be easy to watch, but I couldn’t really tell you what it was truly about. Was it a slice of life kind of drama? Not really. What really was the plot of the show?

If you like an enemies to lovers romance with childish troupes and high angst value, then you will like this rom-com. I found the leads VERY difficult to like and cheer on. As much as I love the actress, her character was beyond childish, she plays a 17 year old but truly acted like she was 10 or 12 maybe?

The ML, Zhang Jia Shuo has been playing support roles and I can see why. He still has a long way to go in regard towards the acting department. He plays VERY stiff and his dubbing needs work. Towards the end of the show he gets better as he gains more personality, but he needs to act better on camera. Even his TV presence was lack luster. I felt like the FL out shined him a lot (even with her annoying character).

I like the idea of the show, but everything was a mess to be honest. This rom-com felt very contrived and forced. It’s as if the script writer couldn’t really write good plot points, so the only plot point in the drama were fights between the leads. If one was upset (mostly the FL), she would throw a tantrum and cause a scene and fight. Then when the leads finally make-up, she would get upset again and rinse and repeat. Instead of focusing on good plot points to work on, the script writers focused on stupid little fights between the leads to create tension. It was very difficult and annoying to watch.

The romance didn’t feel organic at all, if anything, the leads felt like brothers and sisters fighting dumb things. Who wants to watch that?

I like that the show was short and the FL is a cute actress. Other than that, the show was just basically about two people fighting until the very end.

Delivers what it promises

This drama is the perfect rom-com for me. The story is cute and inspiring, the casting and acting are great, and most importantly it delivers plenty of funny and heart-fluttering moments as a rom-com should. The plot isn’t overly complicated, but it’s still well paced and logical, not making it boring as in some other dramas that focus only on the relationship of the two leads. Plus there’s an element of mistery to the past of the ML which keeps you intrigued.

*Spoilers ahead!

Things that I particularly enjoyed:
• despite the cliches, the relationships feel more mature, realistic and healthier than your usual kdrama
• not your stereotypical one-dimensional characters (for example the rich father doing the most to split the main couple)
• portrayal of wholesome friendships
• the FL taking her own path rather than having her destiny dictated by the ML (typical Cinderella story)

Things I particularly disliked:

• not so happy ending for some of the second leads (Sang-shik who ends up still alone and Da-eul who stays with her joke of a husband)

Overall this drama kept me engaged from start to end and managed to make me feel connected to the characters which is a must to keep my interest as a viewer.

The ML as the Demon King stole my heart! Everything else was…

…a mixed bag that luckily didn’t rush the ending. How he came back to life, it is up to us to imagine but at least it gave some happy vibes in the end.

Nothing new here. Common tropes. Average acting though the ML looked very cool as the Demon King and the FL’s acting is better here that in her previous dramas. Costumes were hit and miss where some were gorgeous and ethereal and others look plasticky. Some of the FL’s super big hairdo had me in stitches especially when she was running.

I wasn’t expecting much so I was pleasantly surprised that the drama managed to give me something to look forward in episode 32-33 unlike the past few dramas I watched that quickly went downhill in the second half. However, the final confrontation was a let down and the villain had some of the stupidest lines I’ve ever heard when he tried to justify what he did.

Random note: only watched this as I have a 1-month iQIYI subscription. Unfortunately, when casting to my tv, it only allowed it at 480p so while the resolution was decent most of the times, it was horrible during the parts with CGI and everything looked very grainy. I’m not techie enough to understand if there is a way to cast a higher resolution to my tv that is not Apple TV so I will not be extending my subscription.

It is not as shi.tty as many writes

Firstly, Zhao Lu Si series..... alot of humorous, cheeky and adorable scenes. I do have fondness of watching both Zhao Lu Si and Xu Kai Cheng's series but somehow, both of them together as a couple doesn't really sit right for me (personal opinion). They do not really match as a pair - compared to all the other series I watched of the both of them individually. Nonetheless, they did a good job together in this series. One is all seriousness, no nonsense and sometimes abit aloof while the other is constantly bubbly, cheeky and lively. Watching both of them together in this series can be quite amusing.

The other casts all did a very good job. Including Ren Hao as Zhao Lu Si's childhood bestie and "sweetheart". Yes, there are many talks about how his possessiveness sort of ruined the show, however not every show / series are meant to be a rose garden. Some reflects on real life too. His character's possessiveness isn't something new in real life either. There are some crazies, both male and female, that do not know the borderline whatsoever when in love with another person. I do not think that it is a reason for people to shoot down the series. Yes, the drama of it in this series is quite tiring and annoying ... heck you would also be tired out and annoyed if it happens to you in real life. I wouldn't just shelf something over a tiny detail.

I find that this series, excluding the "drama" is actually quite good. All the casts did a very good job acting in this series. And this series is good because being a first female in school during ancient times is very very hard to come by. Many can really just dream about it or learn in secrecy. Therefore, to be given a chance to enter school to study and go thru the examinations is no small feat. So I find this series a good 1st watch. Whether you find fit to rewatch, well that is entirely up to you personally.

Not all the music paired with this show is to my liking but there is some really nice tracks for this series.

The love of a confused people is pure white... (OST)

This story is one of my favourite genre as I like the topic of betrayal in married life but mainly the husband was the one who start it in most dramas but when the wife it is not so common...

This is underrated drama and not well known, though it is been 19 years but the social realism of age gap as older woman/younger man is not something new in asian drama.

When a housewife is not satisfied with her boring married life and think she loves her husband and is happy with him but deeply deny the fact that they are just like housemates no more than that... this is what the case is here about the relationship of kozue and hideo.

It was sudden like a storm (english title) because the unexpected encounter of kozue with someone teenager who makes her yearn for her youth days that she lived complaining being the tallest with no so much intimate friends around her and nothing in common between her mates in junior high till the lonely and abscent minded brown hair school boy with bangs striking her attention at the middle of the road of a rainy day... (Takuma the storm who changed her life)

Kozue is the one confused and not honest with her self didn't mind the accompany of takuma the dancer teacher and mysterious one, at the beginning he pushed her to practice dance when persuading her that dance will change her view of herself and as she thought she is not the one who may know how to do it, taking steps by steps to join him after the fate of them meeting so many times...

Something inside her made a storm in her feelings toward him, is it a "disease of luxury" as she said to pamper herself by dancing to awake after the slump in her boring life or is it the feelings for the person who made her more confident about herself and to take care of her beauty that she missed while she is with hideo her husband?!

Takuma did not wanted to reveal his mystery to kozue as sick person suffering from emphysema, at each time she decided to end her relationship with him, something happening to him about his disease stopped her from being decisive and empathy with him, couldn't help leaving him alone when her husband was in need for her...

It was not a scandalous affair to say but a betrayal of kozue for hideo who is oblivious and didn't want to doubt the loyality of kozue for him cause at everytime takuma taking a step ahead towards her, she would avoid him for no more feeling guilty about her husband...

Kozue's mother caught her when takuma confessed to her and warned her that "married woman shouldn't falling in love"...

Yoriko was the one receiving the messages of what kozue did in detail with takuma and yoriko wanted kozue to be with takuma as she knew his medical issue and she is the cause for confessing to hideo what kozue was doing behind his back but yoriko did all of this because she had a crush on hideo...

The confess of takuma to kozue that he loved her after he didn't know what this kind of feeling of him for her, was shaking her more and she strayed his seriousness with another talk but couldn't do anything just to love him back but didn't have the courage to tell him that as the society will judge her badly and everyone around kozue and takuma will be in pain and despise them regarding their 16 years age gap...

Divorce will happen after hideo saw the real scene of kozue hugging takuma who has been attacked by emphysema and crying loudly, couldn't dance anymore according to his health condition was more worthy for kozue than to justify to hideo what is her relationship with takuma was what about...

I didn't like the end at all as I wished kozue and takuma ended up together but kozue choosed to be independent and as takuma is special for her she wanted to free him from her for not facing more criticism from the society but takuma wanted for sure to be a great man and finding a job for kozue to accept him and he didn't care for the great age gap 18 vs 34 as he wanted her so badly but if it was the opposit I would give it 10 as overall rating for sure...

Lawful Manners of Deadly Attraction

This title was supposed to be a (poor) homage to Manner of Death aka one of my favorite crime Bls to this day.

Laws of Attraction was all over my dashboard and timeline for MONTHS, so I did have quite some expectations. I was hoping that this could be the Manner of Death of 2023. The premise was very interesting and I did enjoy the first episode. Though, the show didn't manage to keep up my interest throughout the other seven episodes. I'm not entirely sure if I want this show to be longer to flesh out some characters and arcs or if I need this show to fix the pacing and speed things up and use the gained time more efficiently. I'm not super nitpicky about the fight scenes, the VFX/CGI and other stuff, but the budget was noticeable. This show reminded me a lot of Manner of Death, the amount of times they get beat up or chased and almost killed is nearly identical. The acting was also a little over the top or stiff. The main couple was nice in theory but Tinn seemed a bit too good for Charn. Like there was no "okay they are both unhinged, I can see it work". On one hand you have squeaky clean goody-two-shoes big bro and on the other hand you have a corrupt lawyer who has no issue faking evidence and putting innocent people behind bars and burning down houses to get what he wants. I feel like Charn had great potential but was screwed over by the writing and pacing of the show. The side couple managed to steal my heart. What can I say, I am a sucker for the bodyguard trope. Though I gotta admit, that I did struggle with Thaenthai quite a lot in the first few episodes. Specifically his apathy and disregard for other people and their death. But his character arc and storyline was interesting. The execution was fine, nothing groundbreaking or new, but fine. The sapphic couple was a nice addiction though very minor. The scene about marriage equality was brief and a little too on-the-nose, but I liked it nonetheless.

The Entire Premise & Plot are about GUI (Xiao) and LU (Chen)

The Entire Premise & Plot are about GUI (Xiao) and LU (Chen) -- Thus, the very apt name of this drama: Gui Lu.

I wanted to watch this drama because of Jing Bo Ran. He is very tall, manly, charming and handsome. Drama truly presented him in the best light possible which adds greatly to his devastating charm. In this drama, he cooked so well, he loved deeply, he behaved responsibly, he acted with loyalty as well as with integrity. I would definitely like a Lu Chen for myself.

What I loved a lot about this drama:
- Jing Bo Ran. He stole the show. I want a Lu Chen too. Charming, responsible, loving, courageous, sensible, faithful... WOW!
- Relationship between FL and ML was believable. I liked that they only had eyes for each other and truly loved each other madly and deeply. The fact that they re-united and got together after they broke up when they were young made their 'new' relationship a mature one. I liked it.
- FL's and ML's besties were also GOAT. I liked Duan Rou, Meng Xiao Shan, Qing Feng, Hai Dong and Qin Ming Yu.
- I enjoyed the breath-taking scenery. I liked seeing ML and FL in such beautiful surroundings.
- This was also a 'happily-ever-after' drama. I am a sucker for happy endings.

What could have been better:
- Editing was abrupt. Some scenes were fragmented and jumped from one part to another. At times, I went 'huh?' and wondered if I missed something.
- I was looking forward to Jing Bo Ran's shower scene which I spied on YouTube... but, I did not see it while watching the drama.

What I didn't like:
- ML's father was all kinds of f-ed up. Luckily, ML managed to deal with his father forcefully enough too and was not a wimp and he did not allow his loved ones to be hurt by an unreasonable and atrocious maniac.

Overall, I love this drama because I love Jing Bo Ran. I also love his character, Lu Chen. I highly recommend this drama because JBR! <3
