Excellent “suspense” series, quite disturbing & a masterful role for Miles Wei

PLOT: Very unusual format and tone since it is essentially a road trip, with a duo : a young editor (ML = Miles Wei), beginner and shy, and a writer (FL), a little temperamental, mysterious, haunted by her problems, including blank page syndrome.
During the trip, she tells ML meaningful stories, to be taken as clues or life lessons.

PROS:
+ Different but masterful role for Miles Wei
+ Fascinating and mysterious FL
+ vivid production, with magnificent cinematography. The images are beautiful, the framing very studied.
+ Fascinating, intriguing storyline. Good balance of suspense, romance and humor scenes.
+ great OST, with lots of classic tracks, amping up the action.

CONS:
- FL escape behavior, understandable when you are under the influence of a psychopath.

=> Excellent “suspense” series, quite disturbing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a family drama that portrays the life of two families that get entangled through the Haesung Group‘s loss of their granddaughter Choi Eun Seok who ends up been raised by the Seo’s family for 25 years. The cast did a great job bringing their characters to life but there are too many subplots that don’t get enough time to be properly developed. The leading couple has good chemistry when they are together but their story became redundant as Choi Do Kyung (played by Park Shi Hoo) tries to maneuver his mother and grandfather’s antics to control his life as a “chaebol” and future leader of Haesong Group and constantly fails to explain and make sure that Seo Ji Ahn (played by Shin Hye Sun) understands his motives behind his actions; hence, for the majority of the drama, Seo Ji Ahn spends her most of her interactions rejecting his loving and caring proposals. Although the leading couple deeply cares for each other and are constantly lending a helping hand throughout the drama, they don’t get to truly the time together to put a united effort to overcome their vicissitudes and be together truly until the last few minutes of the drama that concludes with the most insipid ending.

BAD

Where to even begin with this mockery. It's as appalling as it sounds. The journey of a dickless simp following a clown king who can't control his dick. They could have explored the world of eunuchs in many different and interesting ways but they choose to go through the absolute worst possible route and interpretation of eunuchs. I wonder which is easier, finishing this drama or castration? Writing, story, direction, cast performance, sound design, cinematography, production, and characters were all abysmal by any measure. If you were to look through the last few episodes you'll realize even the writer was fed up with the drama and turned it into a hate writing. Even if you were a big fan of one of the cast members, I don't see this being worth it.

What Africa are they talking about??

To preface this, I am Malawian and have been living here my whole life. Ive also visited and schooled in several different African countries.

When watching this drama, i admittedly laughed a little at the scenes 'in Africa'. But i didnt laugh because it was genuinely comedic, i laughed because they were borderline ignorant and, imo, rude. We have water in Africa. We have beautiful homes. We have CIVILISATION. We also have 54 freaking countries in Africa, it is a continent not a country. Yes there are poor countries here in need of help, but there are poor countries that need help in Asia too. The portrayal of Africa in this show is not only erroneous but uneducated and frankly quite supremist (that is, painting Korea as superior to the continent as a whole).

I loved the drama, but it couldve done without the ridiculous scenes.

Also, what the heck was up with the Lion King theme song? Now i know y'all are NOT fr.

I tried but it did't work out

I came here after watching You are my Soul Mate and get really disappointed.

I know I shouldn't compare but I could feel the drop in standard

I don't feel as entertained at all. It's not that funny, nor loving or cute. It just feels like a bunch of a mess.

I tried to watch since it's a short episode anyway but can't stand it and dropped it after 1.2 episode lol

Although, there are some funny moments but overall its quite boring and just nothing much is happening

One of my favs ever

Rewatching again for the 10th time and it's still as exciting as the first. The actors are perfect, the ost is incredible and overall the story is amazing. I wished for Gram to end up with some1 else but it's fine. I felt like he didn't have good chemistry with Eugene but whatever.
I also gotta say, Gun is such an incredible actor. The way he played both Black and White but you could still clearly see a difference in their behavior is amazing. Really excited for Offgun's upcoming series 'Cooking Crush'!!

Highly recommend this series!!

Only watch this if.....

Ok one thing I have learnt from watching c-dramas..... Republican dramas are really no good, they are boring & most times they try push agendas....

I like Gao Zhiting so watched it, it had patches of decent story telling....

Only watch this if you like Republican dramas or like any of the cast eg GZT or Sebrina Chen. If non of the above don't bother.....

It's an okay dramas but same time won't rewatch it or recommend it....

I think most times certain Chinese cast agree to these dramas as get future lead role guarantees plus get some creative control in existing drama such as GZT gets to be in martial arts/shootout scenes which allows better his resume for future action dramas....

My Dangerous Wife (2020) - as to why I watched this version ongoing is because I want to understand better the drama since I find the Japanese drama questionable/confusing. Though there is this bit of additional characters, I think the essence of the whole storyline was really the same with the Japanese, I feel like the literally copied the drama which I appreciate. Of course there are additional parts with the ending maybe to give justice the female lead's character sa female lead but I was hoping that there is depth in her childhood past as to why her actions are like that when she became an adult. The 'neighborhood' couple was a bit disappointing for me here comparing with the Japanese version since I really like the Japanese version. The part of the investigator's family which was not seen in the Japanese is one of the most likeable additions for me in the whole drama, I did feel the thrill as a watcher. I find the drama confusing though, because of the pacing, but I did understand how it goes because I have watched the Japanese one.

My Dangerous Wife (Japan) (2016) - I just watched this drama because of the on-going korean version that is currently airing. For a 9 episode drama, a lot happened. I must say I did enjoy the whole process but after watching this one, I am left with questions in my mind as to the female main lead, that is why I really want to watch the korean version for me to understand the drama, and maybe they would somehow elaborate more. Japanese dramas are really different from what I usually expect that is why I am amazed with this drama. The actors/actresses are well chosen, I find them convincing. Fully packed ang drama for me, there is always a significant activity per episode.

The Full-Time Wife Escapist Season 2 (Japan) (2021) – I didn’t know that there was a special episode or a season 2 of this drama. I like it much better than what I thought, I love the first season and this episode which continues the love story of the main leads and talks about COVID at the same time is very touching. It was short, but sweet and also made me learn a lot on what is really important especially family and love. Really happy that it pass by on my suggested list on Netflix. Great watch.

Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu/ The Full-Time Wife Escapist (Japan) (2016) - I have encountered this drama because of the discussions regarding Because This is My First Life. I came to watch this because others said this is the original drama or basis of the my favorite korean drama BTIMFL, and they do have quite the same plot but different story all around. I really felt the romance in this drama, and this drama made me understand what 'kawaii' really means. This drama is very fun in a Japanese way. Japanese dramas have a different style with Korean dramas and you could really see how culture works in this drama. What I do like also in this drama is that they face social issues in between: Divorce, single parenting, singleness at the age of 40, how females are seen at work compared with the male counterpart, sexuality and also marriage. There is a lot to learn, but in a fun and subtle way. Cute drama. Tuesday is hug day.

A Girl & Three Sweethearts/ Sukina Hito ga iru koto (Japan) (2016) - I really like that what I root for to be with the female lead is the one she chose in the end.

With not just one but three guys for a girl, I really, really felt good that the female chose his male lead. I felt the second male lead vibes with the guy but I was so wrong because he was really the main lead, I'm so happy.

Japanese dramas portrayal is really different that is why I find it both fun and hard at the same time. I have fond memories of this drama and I also like the ending of this.

Happy Marriage (Japan) (2016) - another Japanese drama that I watched because of my love for manga before (*high school times) so yeah I read it before I watched this and honestly I’m so confused since I am still starting Japanese dramas and in general, I find them a bit different with other countries dramas. Japanese drama in general, have a different type of pacing. I didn't feel the chemistry nor the romance in the drama compare to what I have read on the manga, maybe because I know how the story would go, maybe also that's why I don't find the drama enjoyable.

cheesy goodness

this was the most cheesiest show I have watched but I couldn't stop. Would I watch it again, definitely not but glad I finished it. The story and acting was not the best, also the show was just lacking everything. No chemistry between any of the actors

Hoped for better and I guess...I got it?

I rated the parent story a 4 for reasons that I put in my review, I will not be repeating that.

What I would like to point out right away is the fact that I watched this solely because I wanted to see if they fixed some of the things that went wrong in the parent story and that's where the headline comes from but it has a huge 'BUT' after it. And here's why:

I hoped for better chemistry between the leads and I got it, but up at what extent? They still seem like roommates to me even though they put a few more 'cute' scenes in. The leads' acting might be really good to some of you, but it doesn't show in this drama. It's just really annoying to see them in scenes where they have to act more intimate with each other because it looks like they don't want to play that role, especially the actor that plays Tine. In no way am I saying we should've gotten explicit scenes because this series is not about that and I totally understand, but there are plenty of shows without all that and yet so intimate and natural.

Their 'arguments' don't even seem like arguments but just simple dispute between friends. They had so much time in those 5 episodes to show some actual struggles that they might go through living together because all couples do, but they filled it up with nonsense.

Since we're on that topic, I hope I'm not the only one that really didn't care about the other couples. The chemistry was even more off than with the main leads and it just wasn't interesting. All nonsense.

Also, can somebody please tell me, how many singing scenes do we need in 5 episodes???

There were scenes that were really fun to watch and that's the only reason for that 0.5 bonus in points for this continuation but overall, it was just as, if not more, exhausting to watch as the parent story.
