It was OKAY

I was expecting more tbh. I was really hooked in the first 2 episodes but idk after that my expectations kinda keep going down. First of all, I didn't like the SA like fucking at all. It is gross. We should never tolerate this tbh. I was literally so uncomfortable by the way they did THAT. Also the harassement. I don't like bullyxvictim. The second lead couple was literally this. Also so much unimportant scenes and characters. The bully's sister was really a useless addition. The bully hates Tae yi just because his sister likes him. Just that nothing else. I thought that there was something more deep going on there but nah. It just made Joo Ha look pathetic. Also the main problem with KBL is always time, idk why. This had good enough run time tbh but they still couldn't use the limited time properly. KBL should learn a thing or two from Japan. Everything was shifting way too fast. Tae yi and Se heon relationship went from strangling each other to besties holding hands to strangling each other again and then to lovi dovey lovers all in just a span of 1 day. Really need a lot of time for this drama tbh. 1 hour and 16 episode kind. KBL really need to stop adapting these webtoon with 2 couples cause they can barely handle 1. But this series is still better than this company's last production. I would say that. Acting was okay, Not the best but also not bad. The ost were okay. I would say the thing I admire about this was the kiss, I though i would be left disappointed with those blur kisses and peck kisses but they actually kiss for real in the last episode with lips moving and all. So I would praise them for that since it is very rare in KBL, Overall, its okay, not anything special. I was expected more but atleast it wasn't below my expectations.

Jazz instead of Classical music

I connected with this. It's an 8+ for me. The acting was solid, they really spoke with their eyes.

Jazz is juxtaposed with Classical music. Classical music has strict rules Jazz is free flowing. Classical music is a metaphor for current Korean society and Jazz is a metaphor for the LGBTQ community. The story deals with negative themes like violence against yourself and others and denial versus positives themes like self-acceptance and love. It's well worth watching.

could've been really really good

trigger warning: sexual assault, suicide

well i don't intend to make this long but i feel like i have to say something because everyone in the comments section are destroying this series lol

i mean, it wasn't bad. some things were like, really off tho.. why is the unnecesary sa always present during this kind of series? maybe if they hadn't brushed it off it could've been somewhat meaningful to the plot, but no. also, another unnecesary thing - the break up due to lack of communication. seheon, taeyi wasn't going to be mad at you just because of something your brother did. he was prob just going to be shocked and hurt but that's it, it's natural since his brother commited suicide and obviously, it had a huge impact in taeyi's life and left a big trauma, but it wasn't seheon's fault. i haven't read the manhwa so i don't really know how this whole situation was originally developed.

for me, the secondary couple outshined the main one, lol. they were really toxic and jooha was the biggest red flag ever, but i guess that's what made them more interesting for me - i love angsty relationships so bad hhhh i wanted to see more of them and they also deserved more screentime together. also, i'm 100% against violence but jooha deserved to get a little beaten up tho.. it looks like it made him realize he was acting like absolute trash :/

i think the whole plot idea was really good even though they used some tropes we've already seen, but the lack of runtime to develop the story was what made it go from excellent to.. just a good show to watch if you're bored. maybe 10 episodes would've been nice, but yeah.

...and bro, the whole story with seheon's brother and taejoon made me SO sad, he must have felt so guilty and sad, and taejoon :( deserved so much better, poor him.

anyway to sum up, it wasn't TERRIBLE as everyone in the comments is saying, the main problems basically were:

- limited runtime to fully develop a complex storyline
- unnecesary drama and lack of communication throughout the whole thing

it's not a must watch, but it was good! also ji hogeun looked gorgeous even when he was feeling sick. kudos to him and his beauty <3

Incomplete story

I had read part of this webtoon but never finished as it dragged on a bit. This series did the opposite. There are so many unresolved issues as a whole in the story that I think 2 more episodes would have given more time to fill in the gaps.

This series had three major issues that were not resolved to any satisfaction. First is the bullying. Second is he suicide of Taeyi’s brother. Thirs is the domineering father.

For the first matter of the bullying. How can Juba who was beaten that bad but no teacher of students seem to care. Is bullying this bad seen as a normal thing. I don’t know how Korean school systems are but every series with bullying and how celebrities get canceled because of it seem like bull isn’t tolerated. Then how is it gloss over. I don’t care if a bully gets bullied but this isn’t making sense for me.

Taejoon being a depressed person who is gay to be shun by the very person who kissed him first isn’t addressed properly. How can they bring Sejin in but make him so ambiguous to how he has internalized homophobia? It was so glossed over to what a piece of trash he is not only to Taejoon but whole situation with his brother Seheon.

Sejin is such a self serving cretin. He seem to not care about how his father is applying pressure to his younger brother because his father is praising him and have a loving good relationship with him. It can be hat he’s more talented and he likes being an award winning pianist. But he can’t be that oblivious to how his brother is struggling under his abusive father.

The side couple is so underdeveloped. The pace and arc of Juha and Doyoon seem so rushed that it came out as an afterthought to fit in a filler. Either leave the out or flesh them out with a more satisfying ending for them.

Two major ambiguous points was the umbrella scene. It can be view as a kissing scene at first. But after the replay it just seemed like a lean in which Mae more sense after Seheon kissed Taeyi and Taeyi had such a strong negative reaction to the kiss. Again it’s internalized homophobia.

The acting wasn’t bad. The story as a whole seem to have all the right elements. The problem was the direction and the editing. It left a lot to be desired with lots of gaps that needed to be filled. The way to fix it would have been to add more episodes or reduce some of the story points. We don’t need that many scenes with the music quartet performances or the competition. I can skip the whole girl crushing on Taeyi part. The time could have been used on side couple or flesh out the main couple’s issues.

I would score it lower if it wasn’t for the acting being good. The cameo helped too.

As a fan of the original work it was a little disappointing

"Jazz for Two" The original work holds a special place in my heart as one of my earliest and favorite BL webtoons?. Despite reading it two years ago, its beautiful art and touching story remain vivid in my memory. Even though it was cheesy it was so cute and funny, and heartfelt moments often brought tears to my eyes. And the romantic scenes were also so beautiful ?Thanks to the unique and stunning artistry.

When news of a live-action adaptation surfaced, I was a little scared. The webtoon's clear storytelling and picturesque art seemed tailor-made for a series, but there was also the risk of it falling flat if not executed well.

I mean they could have made the series a lot better. ?
Yet, there were elements that I found endearing. The recreation of familiar settings from the webtoon, such as the rundown school building and the piano room, felt like stepping into its pages. It was so nice.I liked the actors even though their performances weren't flawless, and a little mediocre, they managed to capture the essence of their characters . It was evident that they read the original work and understood it.

However, the series suffered from pacing issues, at first it was okay but in the middle and final acts. The rush to depict the characters' romance left much to be desired. They could have added Additional episodes .I felt there was a lot of holes. Especially how they ended up dating it was extreamly rushed .They could have added the last chapters when they went to the sea at least it was so cute, lovely and romantic. And the second couples had more scenes in the webtoon.

Even though i feel like the series is a cute watch for those who don't know the story, at least the story it self is enjoyable. I liked Song Han Gyeom a lot , He is so funny just like the webtoon character.

In my opinion there is a chance the rating to go down as time goes by 8.3 is too good for the series at max a 8,I like the eighth sense and semantic error more than this for sure.

Should have been longer

Firstly, I quite loved the drama a lot. I loved the story and the cast did quite a good job portraying their characters though it could have been better. The music for the drama was very nice. It had a very calming and cafe type of vibe. It was nice to listen and slightly groove to it. The story was okay overall.

Now, here is my major disappointment. I really wish they had like more episodes. At least a minimum of ten or maximum of twelve episodes. Any more than that and it would have been too much. This drama could have been so much better with many episodes. I felt like a lot of the character development and some storylines were removed so that the drama could fit into 8 episodes. Though because of that, the drama felt like it was missing many parts. Sometimes from one scene to another the character suddenly changes attitude and it feels like we are missing some of their changes. Also, certain interactions between the characters had to be more developed. Like the romance between the main leads could have used more storylines. The romance between the second leads felt like it was a bit too fast as one of the second lead badly needed a redemption arc. He was a jerk and only changed near the end. So a redemption arc would have boosted the romance between the second leads. The second leads could have used more screen time and storylines as well as they had great chemistry and it was a shame to not be able to see more of them. I have more to say but I really do not want to give out spoilers so please bear with me. In total, this drama needed more episodes so that the storyline could have been a bit more expanded and we could have seen more character growth and development.

But other than that, this drama was really great. I had liked it a lot though I feel that it is a shame that we were not able to see more of them. The story and plot is really good though and could have even been on the same level as semantic error or love for love's sake if they had a bit more story. But, I am not kidding when I say I love this drama. I have not read the manga yet so when I say this drama is lacking I am teling you based on what I have watched. Please do watch this drama and decide for yourself. I hope my review helped.

Binge-Worthy Bliss: 'Jazz for Two'

First off, let's talk about that trailer. I swear, when it dropped, I lost my mind with excitement! And let me tell you, the chemistry between the actors? Off the charts! Plus, can we take a moment to appreciate how darn good-looking they all are? It's like they were born to be on screen together.

One thing that really impressed me about this series is the improvement in Korean BLs lately. Remember those days when they'd be over in just 20 minutes? Well, not anymore! "Jazz for Two" gives us a solid 30 minutes or more per episode, and I'm here for it.

Oh, and let's talk about those kissing scenes. Gone are the days of awkward pecks. The smooches in this series? Let's just say they're raising the bar for Korean dramas everywhere.

And here's another reason to love it: most KBLs these days are based on manhwa/webtoons, and "Jazz for Two" is no exception. That means you're not just getting eye candy, but also a killer storyline to keep you hooked.

Seriously, this series was a wild ride from start to finish, and I'm already crossing my fingers for a sequel. Ji Ho Geun and Kim Jin Kwon, please bless us with more KBL magic in the future. You've got a fan for life right here.

Here for a good time not a long one

To me the show wasn’t even half as bad as everyone is saying.
Was there uncomfortable parts in the show? YES BECAUSE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. So many people want to watch queer shows but not experience the sad reality of being queer. Being queer and growing in an environment where you can’t be yourself is uncomfortable. There’s so much internalized homophobia and yes it doesn’t make it right but it happens. This show was so good and we need more BLs like this that openly show the uncomfortable parts about being gay where you’re not accepted and when your confused about it yourself because you think there’s something wrong with yourself.
Anyways rant over but I do wish we had more of the Do Yoon and Joo Ha because the chemistry was there!!!! What can I say I’m a sucker for a golden retriever love story and the “bad guy”.

A masterpiece that should have been longer

The story is quite deep and covers love, friendship, family issues, trauma, depression, and some other, very dark, topics.
It could have easily been a longer series and in fact, I wish it had more episodes to give the viewer an even deeper understanding of everything - hence, why I only give it 9.5 out of 10 points.

The acting is amazing! I believe them everything and they all deliver a wonderful performance! I think they also choose a very good cast. I'm not 100% sure about Kim Jin Kwon, who plays Yoon Se Heon, and I can imagine someone else would've fit the role better, but overall it's very satisfying to watch them. The acting never gets awkward and they all portray the emotions very well.

The music is great as well ofc, I mean, it's the background for the whole plot. And I love classical music as well as Jazz, so I was very happy with everything :)

I just finished the last episodes about 30 minutes ago and I already wanna rewatch it - so 10/10 for the rewatch value!

Overall, I give it a 9.5/10 as I feel that it should have had more episodes to give a deeper understanding of some of the issues.

And finally, I would also like to say something on the S/A that happens. If you don't want spoilers, please stop reading here!

If you continued, then here's what happens: Taeyi touches Seheon in a sexual way (hand underneath his shirt) when the other doesn't want it. It's not nice to look at, and some might find it very disturbing. However, it's a scene of 10 secs max, so it can be skipped easily. Later, Taeyi reflects and apologizes for his behavior, and I think that it's very important for the plot as it shows how Taeyi's character evolves and matures. So please stop dramatizing it more than it needs to be. It's 10 secs out of hundreds of minutes that are worth watching! Give it a chance :)

My thoughts/opinions

Honestly, after reading some reviews here, I feel like I'm alone.
I just feel like this drama has so much potential.
It made me revisit memories I have long kept at the very back of my mind, made me cry out of nowhere, but the actors had so much potential in this drama. This may only be from my point of view, but I really root for them, this drama, and to their future projects together or individually :)

And to their roles, I really enjoyed the run of it, it may rock but slowly they find their pace back again. And to the second lead, I just knew they were worth waiting for as well, they weren't exactly how a potential lover should be met, but they were being true to their characters, so I enjoyed the lessons!

Under rated BL

This is a beautiful story with depth of plot and characters. The plot is a little rough at times with flashbacks that can be confusing and with some unanswered questions about the main characters families, etc. However, overall, it's touching with young men growing to understand their sexuality, maturing as young adults, learning to forgive, and finding what love means. The music is great and fits the story line in a wonderful way. Yes, the bullying is at times, rather disturbing but is part of the realism of the plot. Do not miss this drama.
