Dr. Lin Xi, the daughter of Ting Sheng's sworn brother and disciple of Dr. Li, saves Ping Zhang and is repulsed by Ping Jing's brashness. Finding the long delay in getting supplies to the Chang Lin army suspicious, the emperor sends officials to investigate in Datong whilst Ting Sheng sends Ping Jing to investigate. Unbeknownst to Ping Jing, Dr. Li also sends his betrothed Lin Xi whose mother took her away to prevent her from marrying a soldier whose early death will one day surely devastate her.
