How To Become a Perfect Lover

I wasn’t planning to pick up “Hi Venus” in the beginning because I had had a bad experience with Liang Jie in “Time Flies and You are Here”. But I couldn’t resist Zeng Shunxi (aka Joseph Zeng) because I have really enjoyed most of his dramas thus far. He has a magnetic charisma that pulls the viewers in and his adorable good-looking face beacons. I was taken by surprise how enjoyable this series is. This drama gives viewers a perfect lover here in the male lead.

Though given a hospital setting as the background, the story is more akin to an office romance. There are no hardcore hospital scenes, nor talented/ambitious female/male lead doctors trying to save lives or inventing new medical technologies/procedures. This is basically a love story between a boss who has no medical experience, and his personal assistant who is a pediatrician with no administrative experience.

Ye Shilan (Liang Jie) is a fresh pediatrician of a private hospital. She is temporarily assigned to the Chief Executive Officer, Lu Zhaoxi (Zeng Shunxi) as his personal assistant. Reluctantly, she complies. Coming from a broken family with a father who killed himself and a mother who remarried, Ye Shilan is insecure and has a low self-esteem; she is awkward, guarding and reserved. Despite the inadequacy she feels of herself, she is upstanding, accepts her own mistakes, systematic, clear-cut, and independent. I’m so relieved that Liang Jie has handled this role very well. Her styling is soothing and down to earth, and her serious demeanor is appropriate for the character. Most importantly, she has an amazing chemistry with Zeng Shunxi.

Born with a silver spoon in an entrepreneurial household where his parents run the hospital business, Lu Zhaoxi is not the typical cold, rude, arrogant, and authoritative CEO. He is mature, considerate, playful, never imposing, optimistic, empathetic (as shown with him going through simulated childbirth pain), romantic, earnest, accommodating, sweet, warm, friendly, fearless (except for insects), intelligent and confident; he’s a perfect partner that all girls want and deserve.

When Lu Zhaoxi falls in love with Ye Shilan and she him, both are not exactly sure of the other: she thinks he is too good for her and she doesn’t deserve him, and she fears losing him if she accepts him; whereas for him, through various rumors and conversations, he thinks she still cannot come out from the hurt of a previous relationship, so he hesitates for fear of being rejected.

Not only very good looking, I find Zeng Shunxi a very good actor. His large round eyes speak volumes, capturing his playfulness, thoughtfulness, exacerbations, romance, intelligence, and confidence. I always feel soothed watching him, even in my most critical drama of his in “Time Flies and You are Here”. Zeng Shunxi nails the role as Lu Zhaoxi. He’s perfect here and I don’t think another actor could do better.

The story is narrated through Ye Shilan's perspective, how she changes from an inferior character to a positive person; she meets her 救星 ("jiùxīng" or savior), her Venus. This is quite a slow burn, pull-push kind of relationship which is subtle and humorous. The couple’s official relationship begins in Episode 16 when they are more open to their closest friends. I'm usually not a very patient person with intentionally made misunderstandings and wasteful moments. However, I find the development of romance here very charming and interesting; it's the little moments that are precious and unforgettable. The dialogues are so funny that at times viewers must think twice to get the meaning and truly understand the words. I feel the scriptwriter has given the viewers one of the best dialogue writings here: subtly funny, humorous, oxymoronic, and paradoxical.

Among others, one thing that stands out to me is, there are no annoying bad parents forcing their kids to marry for wealth and status, or for people they (the parents) approve of. Here, Lu Zhaoxi's parents dote on him and give him freedom to discover himself, hence making him very close to them (the parents); he tells them everything on his mind, including his love life. In fact, Lu Zhaoxi's mother is his best confidante, talking and listening to him pouring out his happiness and frustrations every night, and his father warns him not to use his power to coerce his subordinates to go out with him. Rarely I see such open-minded parents in Chinese dramas. This has definitely taken out a lot of angsts in any romantic relationship.

There are also no annoying ex-girlfriends nor ex-boyfriends, no toxic relationship nor emotional hijacks, but a pair of very engaging best friends who later become our beloved side couple. Unlike in other dramas where the OTP’s best friends always give silly and outlandish ideas, the best friends here, Yao Jiajia (Li Linfei) and Lin Kaiwen (Zhou Zihan), are intelligent and analytical, giving our couple insights and sound advices, helping them to see themselves and find each other.

Finally, the background music is amusing, usually fast and upbeat. There’s a wide usage of assortment of musical tunes, including classical music such as Mozart’s Ala Turka, to accentuate the moods and blunders of the scenes. The flow of romantic music can abruptly stop when something unexpectedly happens. This adds even more humor to the moments and is brilliantly executed.

My Verdict

This is a story with a very simple storyline and no plot twists. I find the writing of the final few episodes not as engrossing as the earlier ones, and the drama becomes rather bland towards the end -- everything is smooth sailing. Nonetheless, this drama is soothing and light-hearted, a chicken soup for the soul, great for erasing away the stress and anxiety.

I love the writer’s humor. It’s so subtle that one may not catch it right away. To me, this is some very excellent writing and a lot of thoughts have gone into it. Many lines spoken here can be used by lovers to enhance their relationship. The “confession conversation” is the type of conversation all viewers should learn to say, in whatever circumstances. It can help us move positively forward in our life.

Another conversation that stands out to me is when Lu Zhaoxi tries to address Ye Shilan’s concern, “Many families are better off than ours, and many are worse off. We cannot use these, better off or worse off, to determine success or failure. But hard work, ideology, compassion can. So don't compare with others to chase after success; we compare within ourselves to have a better life, that's suffice.”

"If you want people to help you, you first have to extend your hand." "If you want people to save you, you first have to save yourself." And this is the message of the story.

Love life. Love everyday!

Great watch! Recommended for all romance buffs and all viewers with fragile hearts (like myself).

BRAVO!

A must watch healthy relationship

This drama deserves a solid 10 from my perspective .I rarely writes reviews for drama just after finishing it but this deserves exception. . This is story of two people falling in love by understanding each other. So the lead have more screen time than any other unnecessary dramas. This is kind of healing romance with a realistic characters. The actors match the character so well that we can’t imagine anyone else as LZX and YSL.

This drama is an example of how healthy relationship can make a person better. If someone asks a drama on healthy relationship , you guys can show them this for sure. No evil scheming ex-girlfriend or evil parents spectating couple or anything. All are positive people. His ex girlfriend even helped them to get together.

This drama contain romance, comedy and some lessons. The characters are well written. This is just a simple love story between two normal human being we see around ourselves. This drama is like reading a good book. You know reading some book in a chill atmosphere after hectic work , you know what I mean. There is no angst or much drama. The entire focus is on their romance and relationship. They do have deep conversations. Some might say all they do is having lunch and talking but if they listens to their convo well , you will know why they are having that convo. Also in my experience we like someone or develop a relationship by talking with them and understanding each others thoughts, likes and dislikes right?.

Ye Shi Lan(FML) is a paediatrician working in Anxing hospital . She is one of the character many can relate to. She has her own flaws also her own qualifications .She has a purpose for her life, she has a goal, she plans her life with practical way. She wants to fulfil her dream of buying a house which is an influence from her father. She is timid but she is aware of her flaws. She accepts her mistakes, apologise , she tries to correct things. One thing I liked that she was a pessimistic person , when Lu Zhao Xi(ML) gives advise her to think life in a positive way, she actually took it seriously and made herself positive. She is ready to accept the advices if its good. She is someone who we can make understand things. Her relationship with her best friend jiajia is also good. They are not typical best friends you see in dramas. Here they share everything with each other, they are not ashamed to talk anything with each other. Also Jia Jia gives the best advices to her instead of some crazy immature ideas.
I was able to relate to YSL in some scenarios like why she is thinking like that. YSL felt she didn’t deserve Lu Zhao Xi when she felt some affection or like towards him, she saw herself inferior and LZX had so many qualities so that she didn’t find a reason why would LZX like her.

The female lead got the most character development in the show I can say. In first episodes , she seemed unhappy, lack of confident, less outgoing , always keeps herself and always sees things in positive way also she started to get along with colleagues also. Later in episodes you can see, she became more vibrant , active , doing sweet talks with Lu Zhao Xi easily.

Coming to our ML , Lu Zhao Xi, He is the one of the best ML out there. He is born in a rich family , he got everything but yet he is aware that he is privileged due to his family background . He is not the usual robotic face President/CEO. He is the main reason I got hooked to this drama. He is very considerate , influence people around him positively, respect others, very understanding. You can see in one episode where they were having an event for trying the birth pain stimulator for men and he came forward and gave some good speech there. So such things shows how thoughtful he is . He is a person everyone deserves in their life. He doesn’t misuse his power. He is very playful , easygoing and friendly. He is the standard for a man in girls life. He sees life in an optimistic way. Even when Ye Shi Lan misunderstood him back there in Taoyuan Village, he never took that to heart , he understood why she mistook and never judged her , even he tried to comfort her . When she came to back to hospital he teased her for fun but nothing serious , YSL thought he would take revenge but nothing like that happened. When he was trying to make her jealous but when thing didn’t go as planned he instantly felt regret and depressed because he felt he hurried YSL and affected her mood, he was worried about her. You can see when he realised he liked her more than momentary crush he was afraid to confess not because of the fear of rejection but because he was worried she would feel awkward to face him in future. That much he thinks of her. Lu Zhao Xi is not thunder Leo (usual type). He express his emotions, he express his love , he do a lots of sweet talk. Because even when they become together we will not awkward .

Their relationship is very beautiful. They respect each other , love each other and have a lots of admiration. They never fails to compliment each other and support each other . I love while developing their friendship first, they shared each and everything with each other, because when they become couple they didn't have any big secret hiding from each other. They know most of things about each other.

I watched whole drama with smile on my face. The confession scene was one of the best confession scene I have seen. Only real words, no honey coated promised . During the confession scene, Ye Shi Lan shared all the insecurities with him and I wanted to give a hug to her. LZX understood her worries. And he was able to comfort her.I love how Lu Zhao said, “Though I can’t promise only good things will happen to you in the future, even if something
Bad happens, I’ll try my best to make it in good direction”. I feel this line is good , because no fake promises like I will make only goo things for you in future etc etc. The dialogues are written beautifully , it’s like reading a poem or book. Also the Scenery of Taiyuan village is good.

In short I would totally recommend this drama to anyone. Definitely going to be in my Top list of fav dramas and rewatch list.

Hope you who love life can also be this lucky!

"Hi Venus" is a surprisingly delightful drama that evolves from a somewhat ordinary start to become a cherished addition to the world of modern dramas. The journey of this drama is a testament to how perseverance can often lead to hidden gems.

While "Hi Venus" may encompass some clichéd moments, what sets it apart is the writer's ability to infuse realism into the storyline. This approach makes even the most conventional elements feel relatable, and the viewers can find themselves immersed in the characters' lives. The nuance of the drama is truly praiseworthy as it takes a refreshing stance on relationships and serves a plethora of meaningful dialogues that infuse the watching experience with endearing, warm, and cozy feelings. It's the kind of drama that uplifts your spirits and leaves you with a heartwarming afterglow.

One of the standout features of "Hi Venus" is the impeccable chemistry between the main leads. Lu Zhaoxi, the male lead, breaks away from the typical CEO character archetype seen in many cliche dramas. He is portrayed as a playful, warmhearted, considerate, and sensible individual. This deviation from the norm adds depth to his character and makes him highly endearing. On the other hand, the female lead, Ye Shilan, may appear annoying initially, but as the story unfolds, her character's depth becomes evident. Her defensiveness, insecurity, lack of confidence, and trust issues are all rooted in a compelling background story, which makes her character relatable. Furthermore, she displays self-awareness and sensibility, allowing viewers to witness her character development over the course of the episodes.

The selection of background music in "Hi Venus" is spot-on, enhancing the viewing experience, particularly during the humorous scenes. The choice of music contributes to the drama's overall charm and resonates with fans of "The Day of Becoming You," as both dramas share similar vibes in this regard.

In conclusion, "Hi Venus" is an immensely enjoyable drama that is well worth watching. If you're in search of something light, funny, and a story centered around a healthy relationship, then this drama is a perfect choice. Its ability to turn clichés into charming, relatable moments, coupled with its realistic portrayal of characters and their development, makes "Hi Venus" a heartwarming and endearing addition to the world of modern dramas. However, what truly elevates this drama is the remarkable chemistry between the main leads, Lu Zhaoxi and Ye Shilan, which adds an extra layer of authenticity and charm to the storyline, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.

A light hearted romance

I had no intention of watching this drama at first because I thought it would be the usual cold male silly female troupe, etc, but this drama caught me by surprise . I became addicted to this drama without realising it. This is a feel good drama with not much serious or dramatic plot. If you want to watch something to relax your mind and soul , yes then this drama is for you.

It's a story of two people falling in love. First they were strangers, they became friends, then eventually lovers. The story is about how they understand and discover each other as they spend time together. They have a lot of meaningful conversations here and they find themselves in some situations which make them understand better .

The male lead Lu Zhao Xi is an easy and outgoing person with a positive mindset whereas the female lead Ye Shi Lan is a timid, introverted person. But yet they compliment and understand each other well. Communication is the key for a relationship .

Male lead is the most likeable character you can ever see in a drama , trust me. He is not the usual cliche CEO you can see in many dramas. He has friends, and his relationship with parents is great. He is very humble . There is no reason to not like ML . He has many positive sides. He is what every girl needs in their partner. There is a scene where Ye Shi Lan was asked by Lu Zhao Xi what are the bad qualities of him and she couldn’t answer. He was brought up by his parents well.

In the confession scene, we can see our female lead, Ye Shi Lan, was worried that what our male lead, Lu Zhao Xi , was feeling towards her was pity or sympathy because they became friends and he knows a lot of things about her past and been there with her in her most embarrassing moments. Male lead explained his feelings so clearly that it made me appreciate the screenwriter.

I feel like there are some little life lessons that we can get from this drama . If a person goes through a toxic relationship and sees this drama, they would rethink their relationship. They would thrive to have this kind of relationship.

The OST is good , the setup of the drama is good, the feel is good.

Overall a good drama which gives a warm feeling and makes you happy till the end.

A Healing drama we all needed

Nowadays there are very few dramas nearly only 1 or 2 per season of the year where we see a sweet non-complex story with a beautiful love line and an understanding couple. After watching "new life begins" which went up into my favorite list I thought I might not encounter another healing drama but then found this one. Right from the very start, you will find this drama out of ordinary with its comical developments and clear distinction of all the characters (meaning who is who). What touched me the most in this drama was the little details referencing the scenes from the previous episode, you don't even need to be that much attentive to notice the subtly references they put from the earlier episode's dialogues or scenes making us remember those moments without unnecessarily filling the episodes with flashbacks.
The supporting characters were also really great, it creates a really good vibe when Leads have good besties who give them sensible life advice and help them understand what they truly want or feel about things. Also in this drama, you won't find any cliche cold CEO vibe or controlling families or forced political marriages, etc. rather it's kind of the opposite of normal cliche CEO X Secretary drama. Although the story is not that realistic the depiction of how a healthy couple should be like is surely delivered well, they talk about their concerns(if you are a rom-com fan you will surely love the confession scene here), and they don't hide stuff, they worry for each other and help each other whenever wherever possible.
If you want a break from all the heavy dramas out this year this one surely is the one for you, well at least it was like for me.

Heal Your Broken Heart

I just completed watching this drama and it really amazing. So, I wanna give a honest review this drama is super. This is most beautiful romantic dramas I have ever gone through. Both the characters doctor ye and the president are really cute. Even child from 12 age can watch. Adults may find it less likely but it’s seriously great. I love watching it.

Story:-
The story is narrated through Ye Shilan's perspective, how she changes from an inferior character to a positive person; she meets her savior, her Venus. I feel the scriptwriter has given the viewers one of the best dialogue writings here, subtly funny, humorous, oxymoronic, and paradoxical.

Chemistry:-
The chemistry between the leads are top notch, I love seeing them act and I'm also very much in love with both lead characters too. Many people might love the male lead more, but I had a different opinion as I got hooked by the female lead instead. I truly admired and empathized the female lead for her hard-work and dedication to become a doctor and how hard it is dealing with office politics. I like how they tricked and disturbed each other, creating many sweet and yet hilarious scenes.

Side characters:-
There are also no annoying ex-girlfriends nor ex-boyfriends, no toxic relationship nor emotional hijacks, no evil parents trying to break them up, but a pair of very engaging best friends who later become our beloved side couple. Unlike in other dramas where the OTP’s best friends always give silly and outlandish ideas, the best friends here, Yao Jiajia and Lin Keven, are intelligent and analytical, giving our couple insights and sound advices, helping them to see themselves and find each other.

Sound Track:
There is one major annoyance and that is the OST. The "You are part of my life" song is rather horrible & they kept playing it seemingly all the time. Although there are 3 main songs in this drama and they are decent. I do think they are overplayed a bit. There are some funny sound effects to complement many comedic moments. However, I also feel that these sound effects can seem somewhat manipulative in forcing me to feel a certain way. Which I think is a negative point.

overall I highly recommend this drama if you like something short and sweet, not too fancy nor exaggerating type of sweet comedy romance.

Heal the World; One Heart at a Time

I wanted an easy on the brain rom-com without tropes and this was exactly that. I know both leads from various other series but the first time watching them in a modern. They had great sparks from the first episode and it really was like healing the world, a heart at a time.

Pros: The comedy and strength of the leads chemistry even before they get together. It's a slow burn but not to the point where you don't know whether you're coming nor going. The ML played by Joseph is a breath of fresh air in a modern lead where he's optimistic, loyal, kind, always has the FL's back no matter what the situation is. He keeps bringing her out of her low-self esteem stage due to her childhood. She in turn starts to grow and expand in her element as a doctor before our very eyes. It's quite lovely to see.

The two supporting best friends as someone mentioned in a previous review, don't just bust out with unhelpful comments and advice but who take real life into account and always offer advice that will lead to the best outcome. It's quite realistic. There aren't any overbearing parents, in fact both sides are very supportive of their children. No stalker, clingy ex's either or really dumb misunderstandings. Everything is real, mature, and worth the watch and the laughter.

The first antagonist was dealt with properly and maturely. Wish same went for the second one.

Cons: I really wish we got to see what happened to President Gao. He created so much havoc towards the end and then there was just a small message of "oh he went to jail". For what? That could have been shown better. I had to fast-forward the beginning parts a bit because though they were comedic, they were too slapstick and not my personal preference. Also wish the second couple got together a solid 5 episodes before the finale, it would just have flushed out their storyline better. Lastly, wish that our FL didn't wear her hair in that weird bun looking thing; either hair down where she looked liked an adult or a ponytail. Just made her look like a kid. Other than that, I saw no other cons with this series.

Would I recommend it? Yes I would. Especially for people who like easy, funny rom-coms. This is definitely the way to go. Grab some popcorn and enjoy.

my first review ever because it's just SO GOOD

I've watched hundreds of dramas/shows/movies in Chinese, Korean, and Thai. I use dramalist to keep track of them but I never leave reviews. However, this drama deserves one!! It's the best drama I've seen. All actions are reasonable and explained. It's very realistic, not your usual rich CEO and poor girl. The male lead had a good upbringing but was taught well by his parents. He's understanding, kind, competent, intelligent, forgiving, and obviously good looking. The female lead goes through sooo much growth in this drama. You can see her love herself more, figure out what she wants in life, and become more confident. The two leads become better individuals because of each other. It's a balanced relationship, not just the male lead giving and the female lead receiving (like most dramas). The writer of the drama uses a character in the drama who is also a writer to say things to the audience, breaking stereotypes and calling out issues in the entertainment industry. Overall, it's a lighthearted drama with no crazy drama that will make you angry or cry. The obstacles are instead realistic problems that people will come across in real life. Very easy to watch and will make you smile throughout.

lmao i accidentally left this review in episode 24 reviews so i had to copy and paste to here. that just shows that i've never left a review and didn't know how to

My cup of romance overflowth

You know the old saying, you don’t know what you missed until it’s gone. Well, this show is my corroboration.

When I first started to watch this drama, I wasn’t hooked. The meet-cute was functional but kooky. The leads are good looking people, and the setting is bucolic. It was not until the halfway mark when it dawns on me how enjoyable this show truly is.
The premise of the Show is fairly typical. Boy meets girl under some trying circumstances and leads to misunderstandings and mistrust. Nothing new there, all been done before. What the show was good at is to put the OTP’s relationship front and centre and show how a healthy relationship can form realistically. How I miss such a simple and straightforward premise.
While the ML is her boss, there is no power tripping nor maltreatment from the ML.

There are teasing and meaningful glances, but there are a lot of communication as well. Quite a lot of the dialogue are musings about relationships in general. There are no hidden agenda nor unhealthy intentions. The ML did have to work hard to break through FL’s shield, but he did it with patience and forbearance.

There is a bit of angst, but it is not directly related to the OTP but rather business related. The strength of their relationship is strong enough so that they can stand shoulder to shoulder when confronted with challenges. Even the parents are lovely and understanding. They are so supportive of our leads.

It is true that the Show is lacking in high dramas but it is a blessing when you consider shows which are willing to derail a perfectly fine love line in the name of overwrought theatrics and angst filled subplots. I’m looking at you, Flight To You.
Acting is good from all involved. I like the fact that the FL is not the classic beauty, but she is so good in this role. The ML is handsome and sweet, a true gentleman. My surprise find is Assistant Lin. He is not idol grade handsome but his is very charismatic.

There is an appropriate amount of skinship and so many swoon worthy moments. I have no problem shipping the CPs at all. The romance is sweet, but it is a steady, organic growth and not the usual 9 tens push-pulls and then the last minute magical confession. This is how it should be. It is not rocket science. I can relate to this which seems to be a point missed by so many writers.

If there is one fault with this show it would be its overuse of "funny" sound effects. This is particularly egregious early on when every humourous moment is accompanied by a cacophony of barnyard sounds or loud zany music track. It got toned down a bit towards the end but it is overused and fairly pointless.

I can highly recommend this Show if you are a romantic at heart and are sick of shows that portray romance as military grade obstacle course that takes no prisoners. This Show will restore your faith in love. It is on my rewatch list.

Extremely BORING

Plot - basically about a pediatrician becomes the assistant of the president of the hospital she works and thus their love story starts from there.

The setting might confuse people of it being a medical drama but it's just an office romance.

Story - their is no actually story in this drama to begin with. There is basically the main CP and the second CP whose story can be easily skipped as it doesn't take anything away from the main CP. The initial plot made me interested as it started in a village with the FL misunderstanding the ML as a swindler but later on when it shifted back to the hospital in the city it just went downhill from there. The pace of the story is extremely slow and when I mean slow it means as slow as a snail. I'm okay with a slowburn if it's good, but here it was infuriating. I'm okay with a drama not having intimate scenes or even a kiss but for this one I wanted to end it as soon as possible. Everything from the start to end went smoothly for the couple and at the very end the writers thought to throw some unnecessary problems which can't even be termed as that and then boom the end.

Acting - this is my first time with both the lead actors and I've to say this if anyone carried the drama then it's hands down Joseph Zeng, but even he felt flat after a few episodes, and as for our FL, at the beginning I really didn't liked her character and even though she had major character development later she just didn't appeal me at all. And there weren't really many interactions between the leads and other characters. There were extra unnecessary characters with mediocre performance.

Chemistry - the leads as friends were good but there is no heart fluttering, butterflies erupting chemistry between them. If there weren't showing any kind of skin ship then they could easily be mistaken as close friends, nothing else.

Production - it was a low budget okayish production. The leads literally wore the same clothes again and again.

OST - was decent enough.

My personal fav characters might be ML (not always), assistant Lin, the director and deputy director from the village clinic and the male doc who worked at that clinic after the FL left for the hospital in the city. They were surprisingly the funny.

What I disliked the most:

1. Even though the ML is the president of a huge private hospital, he has all the time for the FL and often can be seen with her other than actually working.

2. The ML's whole purpose in this drama is to support the FL in every possible way. His actions just revolves around her that's why his character was very one dimensional. He really doesn't have anything else to do in the entire drama.

3. FL was supposed to be a pediatrician but through out the whole drama she was seen working as the president's assistant which she was miraculously good at. (Are you kidding me?) And even after getting the opportunity to return back to her department she was still willingly working as an assistant. Like why?

4. Through out the entire drama FL kept saying that she was working at that hospital so that she could buy her own house and thus even refused to change the hospital even after being bullied at her workplace. At the end where is the house? By the end of the drama she probably forgot about it. There is no clear clarity of her character arc. Her father's suicide which was unnecessary was actually dragged till the very last episode.

5. The FL's character started out as hot headed, fiesty, aggressive, cold but still kind hearted. But after returning back to the hospital she changed into a submissive, soft spoken, kinda trying to be cute, and always agreeing with the ML no matter he is right or wrong. He successfully brain washed her, sold her out, caused her to get humiliated etc.

6. This was supposed to be a romcom but the cute romance was there but comedy was truly missing. To many long monologues, advices and life lessons were thrown in each episode and due to the lack of chemistry between the leads it's just felt frustrating.

7. The documentary plot, the plot with that popular actress, ML's ex gf cum producer plot, the whole Gao plot, FL's ex bf plot, after introducing them either they suddenly disappeared or solved without any problem. Like the GAO plot, he created problems but it wasn't even shown clearly exactly what happened to him or how he got punished or what were exactly the accusations on him. It just miraculously resolved. As if the writers just threw it in last min to spice up the drama as the story was going smoothly or should I say too smoothly for my liking.

8. ML might break the stereotype of being the typical overbearing CEO but he sure was childish most of the times and extremely chilled and laid back which made me not take him seriously most of the times.

9. The BGM. Even if the scenes weren't funny the heavy use of sound effects might manipulate someone to think it's actually funny and it was heavily used all the time.

10. Costume of the FL made her look like a grandma beside the ML.

11. Each episode just consisted of the leads taking a walk with a cup of coffee, long launches or dinners, FL buying another kind of flowers, going home, sleeping, then again going to work and the repeat of the above. That was all to summarize the drama and not to forget typical cliches like shopping in the mall. After every second scene they were there.

12. Same repetitive dialogues.

13. FL and ber best friend's scenes could be skipped too as she gave decent advice but not always great.

14. Mostly cliche, almost everything and there were many confusing parts with questionable actions.

15. After the torturous run of the entire drama we got an unsatisfactory ending. There was no wedding or a proper glimpse of what they might be doing in the future. Tbh I felt like I was watching a teen romance than two mature adults. I personally think the last episode should actually be termed as a filler. It left like it.

Final Verdict - give it a pass and don't waste your time. There are much better romcoms out there.

I kept this review free of plot spoilers, but there may be some spoilers in terms of character traits and development. Depends what you consider as a spoiler, so read at your own discretion.

Romantic comedies are very rare on my watchlist. I am not sure if that is the reason why this drama is so fresh for me, or is it because this drama is truly unique on its own. Every drama has to follow some sort of typical storyline progression and add in tropes, and this drama is no exception to that, but it feels like this drama puts a unique twist to every “typical” trope in a storyline. It draws me in because while I can guess where the trope will lead us, it surprises me by taking a slight deviation off the path before returning back on the main road again. This is so hard to describe, so it’s just something that you have to watch on your own to know what I mean. This makes all of the tropes that do appear less trope-y and much more acceptable, enjoyable, fresh to watch. For this reason I have mad respect towards the production team for adding uniqueness into something that could’ve been just a typical formulated rom-com. They could have handled a scene one way, but because they handled it this other way, it transcended the scene.

I am a huge fan of dramas where the audience can really see that the production team paid attention to small details. Sometimes it really is the littlest of things that make a single scene complete. There are so many moments like this in the drama where a single expression, a single line, or a single gesture, all made the scene much more complete for me. These acute details add depth and warmth to the drama overall. At one point I remember thinking to myself, there has to be someone in the production team that has a deep understanding of psychology and human interactions to be able to create something like this that speaks so much to the audience.

Not only does this drama address fine details well, it also address big picture themes very well. The stark power contrast between Lu Zhaoxi and Ye Shilan is very obvious right from the start, but the drama does not shy away from this. Instead, this theme is accentuated throughout the drama, and both leads are not afraid to address this elephant in the room. The drama also boldly portrays changes in power in characters, such as stepping down from a higher position due to one’s wrongdoings. A major insecurity that Ye Shilan’s has in her relationship with Lu Zhaoxi is the fact that she is not as well off than he is, and she is not afraid to point that out. On the other hand, Lu Zhaoxi is also very accepting of this insecurity and lets her know that he is accepting and understanding.

Ye Shilan also has a very realistic purpose in life, and she is strong enough to continue pursuing this purpose despite her hardships in doing so. Her purpose also stems from a realistic family background, which also heavily influenced her career and personality. Despite having a rich boyfriend, she does not ask of him to contribute anything, and would rather reach her goal on her own. This isn’t necessarily good or bad, it’s just realistic and shows she is an independent character. Lu Zhaoxi also respects her decision and does not pressure her with his wealth. He offered to lend her money, but did not make any decisions on his own before asking her input. What I really like about Lu Zhaoxi’s character is that he knows he comes from a wealthy family, and he acknowledges his privileges. He is very grateful of his background and uses what he has to manage the hospital to the best of his ability. He is a very humble and down to earth character despite his background.

Lu Zhaoxi and Ye Shilan have tons of respect, admiration, empathy, and love (among much more) towards each other, which makes their relationship so organic and fun to watch. The two are very different characters, Lu Zhaoxi being much more optimistic and sunshine-y and Ye Shilan more pessimistic and withdrawn, they complement each other very well. I really enjoyed watching the push/pull dynamics during the majority of the drama, and I respect that the production team took the time to portray this part of their relationship, instead of rushing to push them together. This does make this relationship much more realistic, because in real life there is indeed a lot of uncertainty between two people that make them hesitate to confess their feelings for one another. I also liked that both of them in their heart knew that they liked each other, and the other person liked them, but both were scared that there was a small chance that they could be wrong. It just felt very real to me. The confession scene was very relaxing and peaceful to watch. It did not need the grand gestures and lengthy speeches. It felt very real and fitting for them. As someone who has a personality similar to Ye Shilan, I really appreciated the way Lu Zhaoxi maturely handled the confession scene and I felt the patience that he had with her knowing that she is someone who needed the time to think and respond. Although on the surface it may appear that Lu Zhaoxi seems to know how to respond to everything in a perfect manner, as if he was speaking from script, I thought it really fit his character well. His character is naturally a very charming person who knows how to talk, so his “perfect” responses were perfect for his character. He is also a very empathetic person, as I can see from his body language when he interacts with everyone, he would turn his body towards them, maintain eye contact, and use his facial expressions to respond. I guess I can say he is a good listener and a good speaker — very rare. I know it can be a hit or miss for some audiences that Lu Zhaoxi seems to be too perfect as a character, that it seems a bit unrealistic. But to me, these perfect characters are pretty rare to find, so when one does appear, I cherish them!

Lastly I wanted to just comment that the BGM of this drama is just pure genius. The production team played with the music and sound effects so perfectly. The “HO! HA!” one is pure gold. I also like that at times they would completely pause the BGM at comedic moments for a few seconds to let the joke pass before restarting it. I’ve never encountered such usage of BGM before in other dramas and moments like that really added so much more to the scene.

I impulsively wrote this review before the drama even finished airing because I just couldn’t contain my love for it anymore. Who knows if the drama will end up with a poor ending or not, because anything can happen, but with the way it is going so far I think it should do fine. Anyway, hope this doesn’t come around to slap me in the face when the drama does end (:

Edit after completing the drama:
I loved the way the drama switches the roles between the guy and girl in a relationship that one would stereotypically think of. There are examples of this throughout the drama, but was especially obvious in the last few episodes. I also loved seeing Ye Shilan's growth throughout and how she's turned into almost a completely different person, except not really, she's just become a better version of herself with the help of Lu Zhaoxi. But just like he said, he's not her savior, she is her own savior, he was just cheering for her on the sidelines. Sometimes one just needs such a drama that brings so much positive energy and does it in a way that appears real. I love the message that this story brings to us, we can all really learn from it.
