K-Pop MVs That Would Make Amazing Films or Dramas: Part 2
http://media.tumblr.com/298c5819010dcd4f65676376be68d8eb/tumblr_inline_mintwgsXjt1qz4rgp.jpg

Is this from a drama or an MV? Hard to tell...!

Many a time, while I’ve been procrastinating and generally avoiding doing anything productive by watching videos on Youtube, I’ve found myself thinking how freaking awesome some Korean MVs are. And then my mind wanders, and I think about how they’d work as feature length films or 16-episode dramas… You know, as you do.

Imagine my amazement and joy when I discovered that other people thought this too! The first article here on MyDramalist was great, and has inspired me to create this ‘Part 2’ for your enjoyment.

So without further ado, let’s see who’s at number one…

1. PLEASE DON’T by K.WILL

Firstly, can I just point out how brilliant this MV is? For a start, it stars Seo In Guk (one of my top 5 actors, don’t ya know), and secondly…The twist ending! Come on, you’ve got to admit you were shocked to see that at the end of a K-pop video, right?

DRAMA OR FILM: Please Don’t would definitely work well as a romantic/melodramatic film.

THE PLOT: It would pretty much stick to the plot of the video--a guy seems to be suffering due to his best friend’s relationship with a girl. At first, it seems as if he’s jealous because he likes her too, but eventually it unfolds that he’s really in love with his best friend. As a melodrama, this film wouldn’t have a happy ending for our poor male lead. His love will go unrequited, and his heart will remain broken--just as we see in the music video.

THE CAST: Okay, so clearly Seo In Guk has to play the lead guy. He does it so well in the video, and he’s such a great actor. As for the other characters, Ha Yun Joo as the girl (she played Kang Hee in I Need Romance) and--just for kicks at the tables being turned--Hoya from Infinite (he played Joon Hee, who was in love with Seo In Guk’s character in Reply 1997) as the best friend.

2. FICTION by B2ST

I seriously love B2ST. Maybe too much. And Fiction is one of my favourite songs of theirs. The lyrics are so sad and bittersweet, and I love this music video (except for the really loud, scratchy pen-noise. That I can do without).

DRAMA OR FILM: This would definitely be good as a short 12-16 episode romantic drama.

THE PLOT: Okay, so I’ve thought about this a lot, and have seen some other ideas floating around the web. Just stick with me on this, because it does involve a little convoluted sci-fi.

This would be a time-travel, magical, romance drama revolving around a guy and a girl who fall in love through time. The guy lives in the modern day. His grandfather dies, and he goes to the old family home to help clear his belongings. There, he finds a mysterious book which seemed to have been the diary of a girl who had lived there long ago. He reads it, and finds himself drawn to her, so much so that he eventually begins to write in the diary as if it was his own. This is when it turns out that the book is magical – he gets replies from the girl in the past. With each entry they write to one another; the more they come alive for each other, until eventually the girl becomes real enough from the pages for the boy to see her. They fall in love (of course), despite the obvious problems. That’s when the guy finds out that something terrible happened to the girl in the past, and sets about trying to stop it. However, when you alter the past, it in turn, changes the future, and in saving her he destroys himself. She is left, stuck in the past, only able to remember her great love through the pages of her diary, a story that never finishes.

THE CAST: Yong Jun Hyung would remain as the male lead, because…it’s Jun Hyung. And his acting skills in B2ST’s videos are always awesome. As for the love interest, I’m thinking Sulli from f(x), as she has a sweet and innocent charm about her.

3.  IT’S WAR / THIS IS WAR by MBLAQ

Another of my favourite idol groups, and I really love this MV. It’s so dramatic and wonderful!

DRAMA OR FILM: Of course, a drama. An action-packed, sweet romance, IRIS-meets-melodrama-meets-flower boys kind of drama.

THE PLOT: A hired-gun is tasked with the assassination of the only heir to a multinational business empire, who just happens to be a beautiful young woman. While tracing her movements, the assassin falls for his target, and ends up saving her life when his boss sends someone else to finish the job. He runs away with her, and knows he has to hide her somewhere, thus leading him to seek out his childhood friend, who now makes money by selling scrap metal and junk and lives like a hermit. He knows no one will ever find her there. Here, the plot would split into two parallel stories--one following the assassin as he tracks down any who pose a threat to his new beloved, all the while seeking a way to save her. Then, a second which shows the blossoming love between the girl and the childhood friend. When the assassin returns from his quest expecting to sweep the girl off her feet, he finds that the two have fallen in love, and this leads us to a climatic and terrible ending.

THE CAST: The best part about idols is their multifunctional abilities. Both Lee Joon and Cheondoong are actors as well as idols, as proved by their performance in the video (and appearances in IRIS 2 and Nail Salon Paris, respectively). They’d have to be kept as the characters. As for the girl… For some reason, my mind keeps going to Ji Hyun of 4Minute.

4. IN HEAVEN by JYJ / SEVERELY by FT ISLAND

The reason these two videos are together is because of how strikingly similar the plots are. However, I think each would work slightly differently. And here’s why…

DRAMA OR FILM: In Heaven would be a deeply saddening, melodramatic film, and Severely would be a romantic melodrama (sooo much melodrama!). They could even keep the song titles as the names, and the songs themselves as theme tunes.

THE PLOT: Let’s start with In Heaven – the plot would stick to the MV. A guy neglects his girlfriend and as a result doesn’t see how sad she’s become, how desperate she is for a way out. The opening scene would be the same as the video, showing her finally giving up as she crosses the road. Then we’d have the guy beating himself up over it, remembering all the things he did wrong (complete with a montage of flashbacks. Everyone loves a montage). One morning, he wakes up to find he’s traveled back in time before things started to go wrong. He’s basically been given a second chance, and immediately goes about setting things right and treating his girlfriend better. When it comes to the day she was meant to die, can he remember in time?

In the case of Severely, the first episode would begin much like the MV – the guy in a church, mourning the loss of his girlfriend. I’d change it slightly to give a little explanation for the time travel in the form of an old man, who gives him an antique pocket watch, telling him to wind it up. The guy does what he says, then thinks little of it, puts it in his pocket and leaves the church… only to run into his deceased girlfriend, looking absolutely fine. It transpires that he has been given a chance to save her by going back in time, but there’s a price to pay – the girl doesn’t know him, and they were never together. The guy has to try to gain her trust in order to save her. Will he be able to?

THE CAST: While Junsu was awesome in the MV for In Heaven--don’t kill me for this, JYJ fans!--after watching That Winter, The Wind Blows, I’d really like to see Jo In Sung in this role. As for the long-suffering girlfriend of his, who better than Park Shin Hye (most recently seen in Flower Boy Next Door)?

In the MV for Severely, Hongki did a great job as the male lead, but I kinda worry he wouldn’t suit the character while stretched out over an entire series. Maybe it’s just because I always think of him as Jeremy in You’re Beautifu. However, after much deliberation, I really can’t think of anyone else who I’d put in this role, so Hongki stays! As for the dead, then not-so-dead girlfriend, how about Kim So Eun? She is best known for the role of Ga Eul, Jan Di’s best friend in Boys Over Flowers

HONOURABLE MENTION

ONE SHOT by B.A.P

I don’t even need to come up for a plot or cast for this MV. It just writes itself, and is definitely my favourite video of 2013 so far.

And that completes my list of lovely music videos that could be excellent dramas. Tell me what you think! Do you agree or disagree with my cast choices?  Which ones would you watch? Do you think I went wrong in my plot ideas, or can you think of any more MVs I should have included? Let me know in the comments below! ^^
