Personal Thoughts

It took me a minute to get into the story but it was worth it. It had me in tears as well as laughter. I found the cast to be exceptional. A wonderful movie for the family.

Be With You

Ima, ai ni yukimasu

Country: Japan     Year: 2004     Genre: Romance, Drama, Fantasy

Plot

"I'll be with you again in a year's time when the rains come." is the promise that Mio (Takeuchi Yuko) makes to her husband Takumi (Nakamura Shido) before she dies. Those words stay with Takumi as he lives a quiet life with his 6-year-old son. A year after the death of Mio, Takumi and Yuji (Takei Akashi) take a walk through the woods and meet a woman who resembles his dead wife.

Personal Thoughts

Okay. Get your tissues out. This is definitely a heartwarming, heartbreaking, and tearshedding movie. It even had the significant other claiming something in his eyes during this movie. This is one of those rare movies that I can't find anything wrong with. I just loved it. I fell in love with the son played by Akashi Takei. He was such a joy to watch. This was just an all around beautiful love story.

Shinigami no Seido

Sweet Rain

Country: Japan     Year: 2008     Genre: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy

Plot

Oh...the day in the life of the grim reaper, Chiba (Kaneshiro Takeshi). Chiba likes to get his work over with quickly so he can enjoy his favorite pastime which is listening to his music at his preferred listening booth but that can't happen until he observes his charge for seven days. After those seven days, Chiba has to decide based on their behavior whether to extend or suspend their life. Observing tends to be mundane and monotonous work until one day he meets Kazue Fujiki (Konishi Manami).

Personal Thoughts

Clearly Kaneshiro Takeshi is the star of this movie and rightfully so. He is outstanding as the naive and endearing grim reaper.  His naivety made for some very amusing moments around his charges and those moments gave this movie a very light-hearted vibe. A very enjoyable film.
