With a plethora of new dramas, Bad Papa stands out not just because of the veteran actors but also because of its extraordinary plot. Here's a detailed account of my feelings on the drama.

  PLOT SYNOPSIS

Once a celebrated boxer, Yong Ji-Choel is now struggling with making ends meet and becoming a good husband and father. His boxing career ended with a sour note because of his involvement in a wagering scandal.

However, due to a weird chain of events, he gets hold of a bottle of super supplements which give him immense strength for a while.  Following which he is presented with an opportunity to make a come back as the legendary fighter.

This opportunity is his moral dilemma of choosing between being a good human or a good father. He, tired of being the former takes the opportunity and tries to become the latter.

With a  plot like Lucy's and hotness of Jang Hyuk, this drama is a treat for both eyes and mind.

MY TAKE ON ACTORS

Actors can make a worthless plot turn into gold and a golden plot into mere ashes. But what happens if a golden plot is given to great actors? BAD PAPA happens! With a cast of the veteran actor Jang Hyuk and young but worthy actors like Shin Eun-Soo and Ha-Joon, the acting in this drama is effortless and the scenes believable.

Bad acting can really put me off a drama even if the plot is really good, and good acting attracts me to watch the drama even if I might not be so keenly interested in the plot. In the present case, super-humans, super supplements or anything unrealistic usually makes a drama repulsive to me, but because of Jang Hyuk's acting even such an unrealistic thing becomes realistic.

This segment of the article is going to come across as blatantly biased towards Jang Hyuk but, even if I talk for hours, I cannot do justice to his acting abilities. He is often called "ad lib god" which cannot be more correct, his expressions in the drama are absolutely pure gold.

The other characters are beautifully played by Shin Eun-Soo, Ha Joon and Son Yeo Eun.

MY TAKE ON THE PLOT

Although this drama has just started, I already know it is going to deal with many issues. Of the many, the major issues which caught my eyes are the following:

  • Father-Daughter relationship
  • Cheating on the spouse (I hope I am wrong)
  • Bullying on the basis of the Socio-Economical Status of a person
  • Ethics (Both general and medical)
  • Corruption
  • The overall efforts made by parents to take care of their children

Even though this drama relates to the superhuman genre, the life struggles portrayed make it very realistic. With real-life problems that both adults and kids front, the plot becomes very relatable.

I hope this article persuaded you to start this drama. I would love to hear your views (both on this drama or article), please feel free to share them in the comment section.
