"Produce 101 season 2" contestant among 154 dead in horrific Itaewon stampede

Lee Ji Han, a former member of "Produce 101 season 2" confirmed to have passed away at the age of 25.

Rookie actor and former contestant of "Produce 101 season 2" Lee Ji Han passed away in the Itaewon disaster on October 29, 2022. The actor was 25 years old.

A crowd crush occurred at 22:15 KST during Halloween festivities in Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea. At least 154 people died, and at least 133 others were injured; as well as 4,024 missing.

The crowd crush is the deadliest disaster in South Korea since the sinking of MV Sewol in 2014, which killed 306 people.

The actor's agency 935Entertainment confirmed the unfortunate news through Instagram stating,

“It is true that our precious family member, actor Lee Ji Han died in an accident in Itaewon on October 29. We hoped it was not true but when we heard the news, we were very shocked. We are very careful because his family is in a very sad situation. We pray for the repose of the deceased.
We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family members who are in deep grief due to the sudden demise of actor Lee Ji Han and all those who love and cherish him. Actor Lee Ji Han was a sweet and warm friend to all. I can't believe that I can't see the infinitely bright and innocent actor Ji Han who always smiled brightly and greeted me anymore."

The news of Lee Ji Han's passing further spread as friends from "Produce 101 season 2" Park Hee Seok, Cho Jin Hyung, and Kim Do Hyun paid their respects through their social media accounts.

Lee Ji Han, who was born in 1998, made the spotlight when he joined Mnet's 2017 program "Produce 101 season 2." The actor made his acting debut and took the lead as Shin Nam Hyun in the 2019 web series “Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day.”
