I was actually expecting that'd be the case since even LXY said it's the craziest character he's ever played but it was otherwise.
I also thought it'd be that trope of him only being nice to Mei Lin while he disregards others.
But if they're going for the happy end, then I guess this isn't too bad. What I don't like to see is after toning him down to almost becoming a whole green forest and then giving us a sad ending for the leads.

Jinghe sent away A'Mei by revealing he's that shadow lord who trained her for revenge for years, so she could stay away from CP attack. Such chaos & rebellion!
Good emperor woke up. Respect for Zigu seriously amazing. Sad for Eunuch so brutal!
Luomei makes me sick with that CP 🤢
Yue Qin is even more sick 🤮
At the second half of the drama now, the leads are cute and all but the romance is still not hitting me. These village scenes would have made more of an impact for me if they were enemies to each other at first. Here, they are interacting almost the same way as what we’ve seen of them since episode 4. Maybe a little more comfortable but not that different. Yes its healing blah blah I’m still bitter there is no enemies to the lovers part, the angst is minimum and ML’s anti-hero/dark vibes from ep 1-3 are non-existent at this point. First 3 episodes were like a nice fever dream and the rest is the bitter reality. Anyway, the drama is not that bad since I haven’t had the urge to skip stuff. But I totally feel deceived by the trailer and first episodes.

YQ is playing a physiological war with MJH about who can protect ML better. If he really dare to agree with YQ, I will be mad. If he thinks ML is his woman, and ML herself reciprocates his feeling, he needs to protect her own woman by himself.
Vniverse
I also don’t understand YQ, he tells everyone except ML that he loves her. Maybe he knows he will be rejected so he doesn’t dare to do that. Don’t be coward YQ!!
OMG OMG. The previews!!!!!
THE ANGST HAS DESTROYED ME 💀💀💥💥
Definitely my favourite trope.
KILL ME LOVE ME VERY MUCH MATCHES THE STORY
About the ep22 trailer: I can't believe that...My thesis is in the spoiler below. What do you think?👇
- Hide Spoiler
1- What is the only way for MJH to obtain the antidote and save ML's life? It's clear that he loves ML madly and in the name of that love he would cut his own flesh.
2 - Yue Qin imposed a condition to deliver the antidote recipe: let ML choose who she wants to marry.
3 - Of course ML would choose MJH.
4 - MJH would have reasonable ways to reveal that he was the Master of Shadow without having to resume that cruelty, but...👇
5 - How to explain to her that she is being disputed in a bargain between him and YQ to obtain the antidote that cuts the effect of the poisoning of which she believes to be cured? So...👇
6 - MJH literally pushes ML into YQ's arms, in a gesture of true love, by giving up his great love to keep her alive, at the price of her contempt for him.
👉Conclusion:
It'd be the same solution as Solomon, when two mothers claimed the same child. As both didn't give in, Solomon proposed cutting the child into two parts, giving half to each of the two women. One of them accepted, the other gave up the child in favor of her opponent. Solomon's strategy revealed the true mother, who was the one who gave up the child to guarantee his life: this only happens to those who truly love...like MJH...

The description of true love. Without being corny, cliché, or false. As it was constructed and interpreted in the drama, this love completely convinces me. And it doesn't seem at all repetitive, as if I had already seen it in other dramas. It's not as if it were unnecessary, just to seem romantic. No, it's refreshing and beautiful. And the conflict constructed is coherent.

Hide SpoilerYes, it's when she takes Yue Qin hostage, then (she's wearing a light purple dress) she throws herself off the cliff. Then Jing He, dressed in a black outfit, throws himself behind her off the cliff. And then there's the moment the two of them by the lake, crying and about to kiss. (But...the fact that they're going to fight to find the cure for each other's illness). Both his and her illness are cured with the red flower, jade flower (dragon) in the drama. And there are the pictures of him and her (wearing the flower on their heads), there's for the cure.

Hide SpoilerI'm excited for all of this. Is this speculation based on the trailers/promos or do we know it's happening for a fact? Also I love that they're going to fight to cure each other's sicknesses that's my kind of couple.eliteles1 VIP

Those trailers look painful oof. I hope she doesn’t leave for a long time. This is one of those nobility break up trope arcs, and I feel that given how strong she is, she should have a choice in the matter. SML is taking advantage here because of her poisoning and he should take a step back to understand whether she actually loves him or not because right now it’s like he’s taking a prize. Does she need or even want his protection?
eliteles1 VIP
I think Yue Qin is a true chess player and he will play with the feelings of both Murong Jing and Mei Lin to get his prize : Mei Lin.
@eliteles1 I agree with you. The rhythm is completely in line with the size of the series, all the characters are having a good time on screen, it is easy to assimilate the plot, there's no holes, no hermeticism, no dubious narratives. Their relationship deepened into co-responsibility for each other, without this interfering with their autonomy. I'm very captivated by the series, it went beyond what I expected. Certainly WJY and LXY guaranteed a good show and the much criticized Princess Zu Gu is an interesting, unusual character, she is the pure side that remains without the stains of palace interests and brings similarities with Beauty and the Beast, as she leans to the Emperor for his virtues, just like Beauty and the Beast. Thank you for this exchange!
eliteles1 VIP
Thank you! And what an interesting analogy with Beauty and the Beast for us to also appreciate the depth of Zi Gu's character.

Cdramas have the ability to turn the most 50 shades of grey and red ml characters into complete green forests with the greenest grass. They did it more recently with the mls in “Are you the one” and “The rise of Ning” and to this one. This one was absolutely crazy in the novel so I can understand them toning him down, but they have turned him into a national park forest.
This is why I like the story of kunning place. The ml was consistently a grey character even if he felt in love with the fl.
I wonder: is it because of censorship that they turn them into green flags with barely any shades of grey? or it it the management company of the actors themselves who want to play the actors to play good guys? and avoid displeasing fans?
Thoughts?

i am not complaining because this drama is still one of the best i have watched regardless but i wish they kept jinghe grey shaded or atleast for a bit longer. he was promoted has this crazy pyscho but my man has been green flag since past 12-15 episodes. i know novel version of him was too crazy and that needed toning down that but they should've made him nice to mei lin only but still use other people.
lilcub
they had perfect opportunity to do so with the beauties. the beauties died but we found out it was not his fault and they didnt even die. but like give me twisted jinghe bro. he is become too nice bcz of meilin. meilin hates when he harms other people but idc thats i want...
eliteles1 VIP
I do care. How would there be any excuse in the drama for him to want justice for the 100,000 dead of the Wei Bei army if he was so careless about other people's lives. There would be no justice, and his righteous character would be completely fake, not even a bit better than the crown prince.
Alida3
@eliteles1 I’m really happy they wrote MJH as he is for the drama. I enjoyed the first few episodes a lot but I’m happy he is like he is now. Just a smoother transition would have been better.
lilcub
@eliteles1 ofcourse. but he was not supposed to be a righteous person. thats why i am saying they changed him too much. a grey character is not like others. i dont hold them to same standards. now he is just too nice (for a grey character). also i get redemption but they changed him too soon. and it was sudden. they could've stretched out his crazy era and later developed him into a nice person but his crazy only lasted 3 eps. thats what i am complaining about. now he looks like puppy in love. so puppy that even the likes of yue qin show him attitude. i still adore him but thats not what i signed up for.
eliteles1 VIP
@lilcub I understood what you meant in the sense of the dark charm of an anti-hero. But an anti-hero would never in the Eastern mind have a happy ending like in the original book (someone who is "really evil") becomes light, a hero and has his happy ending. I haven't watched The Double (and other dramas that commented on anti-heroes, I bet they didn't have happy endings. The king's wife, the male lead was a genuine anti-hero, had everything to have a happy ending, but the writers gave him a terrible ending. That's the point. (I think it would be possible to have more episodes with Murong Jing being this anti-hero), but not commonly in the minds of the writers. Although the director understood this, in the final special video of the filming, the director comments: It's the negative becoming positive, I like this concept". The director understood that the story would be the transformation of an evil person, into a totally different, redeemable person. And what we have in the drama was everything possible they had to build this transformation. To the point of keeping the happy ending of the book (my assumption here in this last sentence).
peng-peng
@eliteles1 Exactly.
There’s so many inconsistencies in this drama, I hope we won’t get another anticlimax like The Princess Royal.
I wonder if the script was written by different people? Or things got lost in translation.
It also seems rushed. Maybe they should have taken more time and release it next year.
Something is missing but I can’t put my finger on it.

Hide Spoiler(In the drama) I see a happy ending in the positive development of the two main characters' personal development. Messages hidden in the plot, which if we pay attention, are telling us something positive in the end. They always say, "It can't kill me." There is a reference to the immortal flower in the story, a flower that never dies, which is Mei Lin's favorite flower, and which despite showing Jing He's admiration for her, also represents himself (the personality that does not accept defeat), in most difficult moments in life. They are two similar characters. Like sides of the same coin. PS: In addition to a hidden message on the board that Jing He's mother left for him before she died (giving a warning, explaining her love for him, that she trusted him, that everything they accused him of, she knew he was innocent) . She died but managed to leave this message for him. And it was Mei Lin who made this possible. (In addition to the 5 trailers), and the ost. Some can see a sad ending, but I see many messages in text drama showing otherwise.
PS:
Another element, lines from the trailer: "I pay back what I owe you. Everything I made you suffer, I will spend my whole life making it up to you. Mei Lin, I'm here with you."
And the main symbol is the immortal flower (which serves as an analogy for the two main characters).
(And in the book it's a happy ending. I think the 4 writers of the drama want to keep the happy ending).
__________________________________________________________
(In the book) the female writer exaggerated the bad attitudes of the male protagonist (and still wrote him to be redeemed at the end of the book and have a happy ending). But (these attitudes) could not be redeemed. (When I read the book I saw that it would not be plausible) she would have to remove these parts (to coherently redesign) a redeemable male anti-hero character.
PS: I read it (kind of trying to understand her intention) as if it were the draft of a better story. Got it? That's how I read it.
See these comments below:
Kbeauty
In the novel ML is a rapist and repeatedly rapes FL and beats her through the novel orders a prisoner who won't let him rape her be gang raped and beaten by his men. Kills innocent women and children. But the FL his rape victim loves him anyway. Because well who knows maybe he's "hot" ooh. Yeah go girls well done for glorifying this pathetic shit.
eliteles1 VIP
When I read the book (these passages you mentioned), I read them as something that didn't fit the story. (Clearly the female writer wanted to create an anti-hero, someone troubled but redeemable), but she overdid it. (If there were an editor who helps writers, he would say, take that part out, take that part out, I know what your real intention is.) The book mentions that he is someone who has been wronged, etc. (The scriptwriters of the drama understood the draft of the book better than the female writer) and wrote and rewrote him better for the drama (a troubled, hurt, but fair man), someone redeemable. I can't read the book (thinking those passages are plausible), but I see the general outline of the book. I don't know if I made myself clear. I hope so.

I have read the novel too, but I don't remember the ML to be that evil. He was mostly an as. hole.
Yes, those parts are mentioned in the beginning. It's not his personality most of the time in the book. They work together, they go through hardships together. So (it's like those parts are not plausible) they were in the book.
blabla100 2 minutes ago
@eliteles1
Oh maybe I didn't pay enough attention or something. I kept reading how evil the ML was în the novel, that I started to believe that I must have read some censored version of the novel. Was mostly an as.hole torn between 2 women basically.
eliteles1 VIP in a minute
(yes), but then he decided on Mei Lin because they went through life and death together. There are interesting parts in the book and even poetic ones. This book is a contradiction.

@eliteles1 While I do agree that he needed to change but that was too soon. They could’ve done alot more with the storyline before changing him SLOWLY. Also i have no issue with drama deviating from the novel but all the promos and even liu xieyi himself said this is the most craziest character he ever played.. the question where is it? The promos shouldn’t have been so misleading if they were gonna go for nice ml. I was so looking for an anti hero and novel served that so obviously my expectations were high for this. I was expecting anti-hero and they gave me misunderstood green flag. I still love him but again… it was not what i expected and waited months for! About happy ending argument they could still give them HE after slow character development. Change was quick. Everyone can see it. Homeboy was seething with revenge but changes suddenly cuz he started liking a girl. People do change in love but change is not so sudden! They promoted it as anti-hero. Its not. Just simple as that.
Argument that he shouldn’t kill innocent ppl if he wants to be an emperor.. well its fiction and ppl have done way worse and still became emperor and got HE.. but still i can get behind this. But he is not even cunning anymore? At most he is strategic but thats about it. Now he is just too nice for his own good. There are still some episodes left so i do expect him to up his game a bit.
Sorry many ppl commented and i forgot who wrote what and just replied with a single comment.
eliteles1 VIP
I completely understand and I wish it had been written like you described with more cat and mouse chase, and the suspicions were overcome little by little. That the game happens and he realize the inner struggle of playing this game. (and that even so, the anti hero could transform into a hero and have his happy ending). But... I think a lot of interesting things will still happen in the drama with our main couple.
PS: And that there was a little blood for blood like Mei Lin said and then she discovered the truth and we audience discovered the truth along with her.
(But if we get the happy and convincing ending. These writers will still deserve my praise).
PS:
But I know it was like there was an anti-climax too soon.
(And I hope they get it right by episode 32).
PS:
But...I loved the romance so far.❤️✍️💘🌺
And the immortal flower analogy is worth an entire drama.😊😶🌫️

Recently, I have been obsessed with Youku's new drama "Spring Flower Flame", which is really a visual and emotional feast! This drama is starring Wu Jinyan and Liu Xueyi, and the performance of the two actors is simply heartwarming. The story revolves around the love-hate entanglement between Meilin, a girl from Qingzhou, and Murong Jinghe, the prince of Dayan, in the context of turbulent times, their growth and struggle are really empathetic.
The emotional description in the play is particularly delicate, especially the misunderstanding and revenge between the hero and heroine, which is even more heart-wrenching. However, what struck me the most was their empathy in the midst of life and death. When Meilin assassinated Murong Jinghe, he accidentally discovered that he was also a survivor of the Qingzhou fire, and the emotional interweaving of this moment simply made me stare with bated breath. Director Cheng Zheng used "step by step to push to the section that makes your heart ache" to describe the progression of this emotion, and it is true!
In addition to the emotional conflict, the action scenes in the play are also a highlight. Behind every fight scene is the deep thinking and emotional support of the characters, which is simply dizzying. I love the kind of confrontation that is not only physical, but also mental. The director's good intentions in martial arts are really admirable. What's more, this drama is also quite innovative in terms of visual style, and the use of warm colors makes the whole picture reveal a sense of hope, and you can feel warmth even in the sadomasochistic plot. The scene in the play where paper money is full of sky and red leaves are falling is refreshing, and it is indeed a beautiful enjoyment! "Spring Flower Flame" is a masterpiece that breaks through the stereotype of costume dramas. It is not only full of novelty in the plot, but also gives the audience a lot of resonance in terms of emotional depth. I can't wait to see what happens next, and hopefully the characters in the show will have a better ending!
