I REALLY dont want to see him in anymore Romance.
Of all of his dramas, the 3 that i enjoyed the least were
Sore wa Totsuzen Arashi no you ni
Proposal Daisakusen
Buzzer Beat
It was only later i realised that i realy dont enjoy any of his romance dramas. But i absolutely loved Kurosagi, Code Blue and Ending Planner.
I used to like him very much (he was my bias), then I sort of forgotten about him, but now I've watched Ending Planer and my admiration came back in an instant. I don't know what it is about him, but he is totally irresistible and one of a kind. I really like his acting, his characters usually don't get crazy and he's so calm usually, but you really can feel emotions when it's needed. I'm now re-watching Code Blue and he is so amazing in that, I think it's his best drama so far. I also highly recommend Ashita no Joe - I couldn't imagine him as boxer, and yet he managed to pull this off.
Sooo long until the start of his new drama. I really want to watch that. T_T
And what's that about him being in a horror movie or something? Or was that a variety show? Just something I read and didn't know.. ._.
Not that I'm going to watch it anyway, I'm way too easily scared. ^^
Okay, my Yamapi obsession is kicking in, so let's add something about his singer/idol career. I first knew him as an actor, so when I stumbled across his stage performance I was in deep state of shock, I couldn't watch it, he is just so different from his usual (acting) self. I hated it at first, but then I couldn't stop watching/listening to it. ( the same was this time, I watched Ending Planer and I decided to check up on his music career-at first I was, no! I don't like this, I won't listen to it, why he does it.... 2 days later - I can't stop listening to it and I love it).
Oh the things he do... Here is a really old, but very good video ( sexy I know, but he does have a shirt on, which is sort of buttoned up ;) ), think of him in Code Blue, think of Ending Planer, and then watch this - it's like two different people!
I was pretty shocked when I found out he was a singer, too. It was after watching Nobuta wo Produce and searching for the intro song on YouTube - And realizing that it actually had vocals and that Yamapi and Kame were singing them.
I loved the song instantly, but after searchig for more of his music I didn't like anything. Now I like "Moon Light", but it's the only song. All the others are too poppy and digital for me somehow. :/
I know him to be a singer for a year and a half now, 'cause like Devitto, i've searched on YT the ending of Nobuta. And became addicted to this song (don't really know why). At the point I couldn't leave Japan last year without buying his first solo album. You can hear very different songs, and the "B side" is more digital than the first, like in the video. I first was disapointed in listening to it, but I became, once again, addicted, and now i'm enjoying it every time i'm listening to it. Though I prefer Arashi.
Seeing him dancing with Kame was not a so great shock. He is an idol, after all. So i'm not as surprised as you are when watching the video. Maybe that's because I've watch those kind of videos before watching his dramas Code Blue or Ending Planner...
but I do agree, his stage performance, like this one, and his songs, are completely different from the characters he is playing in dramas. That's what makes me think he is a soooo good actor. I have never seen him talking in TV variety shows, so I don't really know which side of his carreer seems to fit in the most with his personnality.

Well, I think you're right because the first time I saw him sing was also probably first time for me to see J-pop.
I watched some interviews and backstage feature with him, and as every normal person he has both silly and serious side. But he usually seems like a rather calm person, check for yourself ( although this one is really silly):
He always seems pretty quiet and shy in variety shows to me. Never saw him do something risky or weird. ^^
Unfortunately his CDs aren't available in any online shops here, so I only know 5 or 6 songs that I found on YouTube. :(
So I finally got hold of his newer, solo music videos ( in fan-girl mode you're are able to dig up anything you want online, although why those MVs aren't on some official YT channel accumulating view count and adds' money I really don't know) and I must say that I'm really into what he's doing now, his image is much more consistent, and it's so much better than in NEWS' days, much more mature(well, as he is), I'm really glad he went solo. The MV for Ero... so creepy.. but so awesome... and his eyes with colored lenses are so creepy cute... he brings my inner fan-girl out...in my age is unbecoming (and I'm married you know!)
He just started filming Monsters with Shingo, cannot wait for October to come!
:D I recommend watching his Route 66 documentary and concert or album offshots for getting know him outside dramas. He's very quiet and always gets pictured as cool but he's not lol.
Music-wise, I think he's a better songwriter than singer. He has some addictive dance songs but the ballads like Nayami no Mori no Mannaka de and Gomen ne Juliet are nicest. His dancing used to be just okay for an idol but he started taking lessons so the choreo for his songs is a hundred times better now.
Route 66 is amazing. As well as the bonus stuff that came with the DVD.
I own Both of Yamapi's albums in Limited Edition Japan versions. Lol, i havent actually listened to the Ero album yet because i heard it all online. But i've watched the DVD a million times already, even though i only got it a couple of weeks ago.
I love this man <3
How or where can I watch or buy Route 66? I can't find it anywhere. :(
I'm looking forward to Monsters. I think I've never looked forward to seeing a drama that much. xD

I started watching Route 66 yesterday, I've always wanted to go on such road trip(maybe someday...), so it's really enjoyable. It's just so adorably random - glowing stick and salami LOL!
I think his songs now have good lyrics as before, but they are also very well produced (some beats really make me wanna dance- like Hadakanbo or Yours Baby). And since he dropped the typical Asian boy-band manner his videos seem much more fun and interesting too (bad they aren't promoted as well as they should be).
