Help remembering this movie title?

I watched this movie a couple of years ago and have been trying to find it ever since since I lost the name. I don't remember everything very well so please bare with me.

It was about a man who I think was cycling and something happened that lead to an old man taking him in. The old man was a clockmaker or worked on clocks and I think maybe the main character started to help him out but I'm not too sure. I think at the end of the movie you find out something tragic about how one of the main characters friends died when they were younger.
