I try to keep off threads where I can't say something positive about a drama. Makes no sense irking people. I like MDL because it's a tight community but really I think bashing RP makes people who liked it feel so ashamed for liking something you can't. Respect you all. Not looking for a fight either. Thanks for hearing me out.
You are right and I truly apologize to you and everyone else.
Unlike Lis and Sora, I dropped this drama, so I guess my opinion isn't complete.
I promise it won't happen again. :)
This said, I believe negative opinions can be expressed in discussion threads? Otherwise, what discussion is it?

As much as I like the girls, but next time I´m gonna step on their dramas, too! :p
lol :D

and of course no,,not liking something doesn't mean seeing people who like it weird or something..
i often like something that most people hate..and i'm not ashamed at all..
it's about principal..and taste..it will be weird if all people think the same.. :)
and honestly, i don't think i'm bashing RP..lol..sorry if i'm ignorant, but that's what do i think.. :P
I just don't understand why keep following a thread for a drama that you don't like. If you don't like it, what's the need of keeping up with it? Hate the drama more if you read more positive comments? How am I supposed to like this drama in peace when I can't stand negative comment either? (Not angry here just frustrated...eottoke.)
LisNoir wrote: I'm not trying to irk anyone, I'm just expressing my opinion (since I did fully watch it) and I make no apologies for it. Plus, there's more people in this thread who loved and gush over it than those of us, around three who are open about it(?), who thought it could have been a lot better. So, there's no need to feel ashamed for liking something, ever. People like what they like and don't like what they don't like. :)
I feel sorry you were forced into finishing a drama that didn't hold your interest from the very beginning. There were times I wished you could have followed your own advice and dropped it to save yourself the headache. But you know I can't do that--because you're LisNoir and you 'dae maum dae ru he.' lol

Yeah, but by the time I realized I should have really dropped it at Ep. 4 (when by that episode I still didn't like it), I had already watched too much and I decided to just finish it to write a review. :D I haven't written it because right now, it only say really, really, really bad things in a very direct way and I will not filter my thoughts...lol
I only got half of that...lol
meh it doesn't bother me if someone doesn't like a drama i liked, and posts their opinions. as long as they're valid opinions and not just junk meant to get a rise out of everyone like "it sucks" etc.. if you have valid reasons for not liking it and aren't just trying to pick fights, go ahead. this is a RP discussion not an "I love RP" party. discussions can have positive and/or negative viewpoints. like Lis said, if we all agreed with each other all the time and everyone loved all the same dramas all the time, it would be kinda dull :P
that said, I did love this drama, but I do agree that there were certain things that could have been done differently/better. no drama is 100% perfect, I think it's totally acceptable to nitpick over small details and what you would have done differently etc in a drama discussion forum, that's sorta what it's for isn't it @____@;

Same here the past couple of days, I've pretty much only posted when I'm quoted or when I agree with someone. I've pretty much let every other post "untouched" because I can't agree with them. So I "ignored" those posts. Well, not really ignored, but I didn't mention anything in them because each person will have their own opinion. :p

:D I understand how people react to underrated and overrated dramas are. I like what everybody else hates or just think as 'meh' and I dislike or don't even bother to glance at a drama even when everybody else heaps praises over it. I watch dramas that captures my interest from the get go and try to stay away from the ones that don't. Kinda lessens the drop rate.

I didn't say it couldn't be expressed, I just don't think it's fair or valid hating a drama all the more just because you hear somebody else praising it. That said, I don't see anything wrong with expressing positive comments either.

I don't bother so much with negative comments as long as they're valid and objective. I agree there were a lot of things that could have made it smoother. I haven't written a review either but I am dwelling on explaining a different aspect of the drama and haven't quite found the words yet.
@ladyfaile
You're right. This IS a discussion thread for the drama. Thanks for reminding me.
i see your point also, but i've been to over-moderated forums where you can't express any opinion outside of the popular majority... it's no fun, and people get banned constantly, people quit all the time because the community becomes a stressful environment. i think we should be able to have open discussions and even arguments as long as nobody is blatantly insulting another person or their preferences etc. i find MDL very easy going and i'm amazed at how well everyone gets along compared to other sites i've been too, everyone here seems pretty respectful and mature, so i don't think we really need to be restrictive. in some of the other sites it is necessary to a point because some members are just there to stir up trouble and if they're left alone they'll start all kinds of fights and troll behaviour etc, we're really lucky that we haven't had any major issues here other than the odd spammer and one persistent hacker lol

Yes, I understand the point, and as I said I'm not really proud of this strange feeling myself. Mind you, it's not that I dislike something BECAUSE other praise it, I dislike it first and then find a sort of discomfort in hearing it praised. Probably I feel lonely, lol. But enough with this, I hope you can forgive the momentary lack of class on my part.
Since you don't mind negative comments, I may just explain why I disliked it and consequently dropped it at episode 7: perhaps it may add something to the discussion.
I was first disappointed in finding out that this drama relies heavily on dejà-vu tropes: the super evil step sister, the meddling relatives, the birth secrets, the female heroine with a sacrifice instinct, every character lying for one reason or another, the love triangle. I thought that lately dramas had finally distanced themselves a little from these cliches found in every other rom-com or melodrama, and it was disappointing for me to find them back in full force here.
The humour was also kind of put off. It was incredibly hilarious at the beginning, but I was hoping that instead of working as a mere comedic relief, it would also lead to a characters growth. Instead, the 4 "power rangers", who were chosen by the prince in Joseon with a precise aim (the intellectual, the brave fighter, the eunuch), spend a good third of the drama using none of their respective "powers" and are just a group a comic figures with a vague trace of their original personalities. I don't know how and if they evolved in the second half of the drama, and I hope they did, but I thought 7 episodes with them wondering at every new technology invention and still behaving as Joseon servants were a little too much. Even though they were out of their elements and amazement is understandable, after weeks at least the intellectual ranger should have figured out by himself that behaving like Joseon characters wouldn't be of much help.
Finally, too long a screen time is spent on the machinations of the villains. I know it will all be resolved in time, i.e. at the end, but one needs a huge dose of patience to watch so many characters being led by the nose by a villain or more than one, with lies added on lies. It's frustrating.
A final consideration: I wouldn't have bothered neither to watch the first episodes nor to come and read this thread (well, part of it) if I hadn't been attracted to this drama in the beginning. At the end of the day, this is the problem: if I had been completely indifferent I'd have dropped it at ep. 1 and all's well that ends well.

That's the same for me. If I'm neutral about a drama (can't think of one I'm neutral about..lol). I don't start hating it just because everyone is gushing over it, I have to already dislike the drama to feel that.
They don't really do much. I thought they would be more useful too.
wow..this thread has been busy i see lool...i think i'm just the opposite...the more the people hate it, the more i tend to like it lol..i have a soft/ kind heart..what can i say?!! :p ...i feel the need to love it more lol...
RTP has been an average drama for me..some episodes i loved..some not so much..sort of a mild roller coaster lol...ofcourse there were some flaws but every drama i've seen so far have had one or few..even the ones i rated 10 so i can forgive this one for a few..plus the fact that it had Yoochun helped ^^ ....like i said it was just an average drama for me but the fact that so many people are bashing this drama makes me like it even more buhahahahaaah...
and yeah no one should be ashamed of liking or hating a drama...everyone has a right to opinion and we should respect that...people who liked it cannot change the views of people who didn't like it and vice versa so let's just express our own views and not get offended by others' :)
wrote: Mind you, it's not that I dislike something BECAUSE other praise it, I dislike it first and then find a sort of discomfort in hearing it praised.
Oh...I did say hate all the more, didn't I?
I understand where you're coming from. I don't mind it at all that you pointed these out, I saw them as well but I guess it's true it's a matter of perspective and taste. RP has a story that I can follow and suspend disbelief on--not perfect but really made me stick to it 'til the end. If I nitpick too much on details, I'd probably end up wondering why I liked it in the first place.
After reading your comment, I've come to think you have a delicate palate when it comes to dramas--and I am saying this as a 5 year-old would discover how a thing works and no other hidden context. (Maybe it's because you have seen and read a lot and RP doesn't offer something new?)
I took all those things in the context of side-stories that were needed in order to discover and resolve the Joseon parallel and mystery, taking focus when they are needed and put back at the background once uncovered. I thought the meddling Halmoni was 'disposed of' quite conveniently in the story--that's why it didn't matter to me that much that she accidentally died later. The birth secret and love triangles--you're right, these are staples in Kdramas, but odd, I found the chaebol storyline much more irritating than these. If there was any consolation to punishing the villains, Lee Gak wasn't as forgiving in the Joseon parallel as he was in the modern era.
Sad, the story came to a tangent where the trio wasn't as maximized as we all thought they could be. They stayed as their usual selves, supporting LG throughout. Bak Ha did the reading in the library in Ep 8 and in Ep 9, Man Bo gives his explanation why they didn't bother that much to dig into history books.
Lee Gak had always laid his theory as to why they were put forward and that was to solve the mystery in Joseon, set it right in the future so they can go home and punish the culprits. The fact that they can't control their time travel is one flaw that makes it exciting (?) for me. Later, when Lee Gak deciphers every bit about the murder and discovers that the key to the parallels has been Bak Ha all along, the shift in the story focuses on how he and Bak Ha can stay together.
And when I thought that was everything to the story, the last episodes lays out Bu Yong's untold story. For you, I'd think you wouldn't appreciate this part because it resounded the sacrificing instinct of her modern counterpart, Bak Ha. Though for me, the moment I saw this, I knew she had to be part of the happy ending.
Frankly, I wasn't too sold on reincarnation theories mixed with science fiction. It was a sad happy ending but knew the writer put it back to reincarnation and parallels. It took me this long to appreciate it but yeah I accept it. Aggh too long. -_-#
