Lets face it people, you just can't make a story with a bunch of 24+ year old high school students be nearly as good as a story with actual adults. Let's not just blame the writer.

The writing is exactly the problem with Heirs. There are plenty of shows out there cast with actors too old or too young for the characters the portray. A good script and good acting can most often make it a moot point. (School 2013 is a good example) And for the most part I would say Heirs has some darn fine actors. Heirs is finally ramping up its plot and it is too little too late. And lets not forget it was the writer who set this scene with school age kids in adult situations in the first place. So yes...I blame the writer/s.

It could be just as good, with really good writing (check Hana Yori Dango, NOT BOF for reference), and it certainly is the writer's fault, because she was the one who created the story. If she didn't think she could write a decent story about high school, then she shouldn't have tried in the first place.
Heirs could've been an awesome show, it really had the potential, but the writer took the easy way out and made the storyline a huge cliché

The thing is, the writer doesn't need to be good. As we can all see from heirs, no matter how bad the story is, it will have good ratings thanks to the fangirls!

Well, it may have good ratings, but that doesn't mean is good, the same way that some awesome dramas have awful ratings. Heirs has it all to be a really good drama, but it isn't because of the writer. What you're basically saying is that it doesn't matter if the drama is good or not, as long as it has hot actors. But, I can't agree with that. For me the most important part of a drama is the writing, all the dialogues and the story, that's what hooks me to a drama. And that's exactly what Heirs is lacking

Agreed. I can fangirl with the best of them but if a drama sucks, it can still be dropped. Eye candy or not. Fangirls make it popular. Not good. That argument makes no sense.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm the last person around here to actually care about looks. I actually find it incredibly pathetic that some of the people around here watch dramas JUST because of hot actors. And in no way do I think Heirs is a good drama or that having high ratings makes a drama good.

Now here's a fact: What matters is the numbers. Regardless of how fantastic a drama is, if it has bad ratings then it's a failure, and regardless of how bad a drama is, if it has good ratings, it's a success. According to ratings (at least the past 4 episodes that is) this drama is a success and it's very likely that the next 4 episodes will have even higher ratings.

Now what I'm trying to say is that even though I personally do care more about the story than the actors (as you can see if you go through my drama list), this drama proves that to a lot of people, the hot actors are more important. In fact, you could see that by the comments and ratings the drama had on MDL before it even aired. There were already tons of people rating it 10.

Thankfully, we've moved on from the poor English. Praise the writers for not bringing that American surfer boy back. I'm not a hater nor am I a big fan of Heirs. Heirs is only getting attention due to the idol stars. Fangirls these days...

a great number of those people rating it ten were exactly the people the producers were aiming for; boy crazy young girls, most of them physically incapable of NOT being boy crazy due to hormone cocktail pickling thier brains. as i watch my 13 yo step daughter i thank god i wasnt like that when i was her age :P

lets face it my fellow Noonas this is not for us. no one likes nit picking this crap more than me, i'm just an asshole like that, but it's not made for emotionally mature thoughtful women. it's made for 14 yo screechers. it appeals to them, it's filled with empty thoughtless gestures b/c that's what teenagers want. tan's being a stupid teenager, not considering the consequences of his actions and the teenie boppers lap it up b/c they arent mature enough to get that stuff like that is about as far from romantic as it's possible to get.

and the rest of them? well something can be entertaining without being well done.

Agreed. This is getting a 6 at best...my love for The Woo and those awesome moms notwithstanding. This is definitely not written for adult women. It could have been (WRITTEN IN A WAY THAT MADE IT UNIVERSALLY APPEALING AND RELATABLE). Its sad to see all the potential this show had go unfulfilled.

About ratings... the only people who really care are the networks and truly when discussing what makes a show good... they do not matter. What stands the test of time is always going to be the writing. And p.s. if a man spoke to me or treated me like either of those boys treat Eun Sang, I'd kick him in the ding ding... and then kick him to the curb.

this is going to sound horrible and so antifeminist and all but here goes. i think in Eun Sang's case specifically, she's getting treated EXACTLY the way she wants to be treated. those boys treat her like that b/c she puts up with it. esp young do, i've known dudes like him (minus the gobs of cash) they treat people like shit because they feel like shit and they want other people to feel like shit too. if she wanted him to stop it really wouldnt take much. tan on the other hand is sort of delusional, but she keeps sending him mixed signals and i'm sorry you do not play coy with a mentally unstable dude and then get all shocked and shaken when picks up a chair like he's gonna hit somebody. i would not be at all surprised if tan finds out where she is , shaves off all his hair and mails it to her in a reusable " i <3 california" shopping tote.

I think the worst thing about this drama is that I came in here without having watched the latest episode, and I'm not even worried about seeing spoilers because, honestly, it wouldn't ruin a thing. The drama, to me, is so cliche and kind of dull, repetitive. It's dramas where you really don't want to find out any spoilers that are the best. However, I'm watching this because of the actors in it and other than that, it's good! Not trying to put it down, just my opinion~

I do agree at some point, it was made for teenagers (like fans of Twilight who consider an abusive possessive relationship romantic),but I am a teenager myself (on my way out, but still), and I do NOT like it. It doesn't have anything to do with age, maybe it's just the concept that each person has of romance. I do have to say that if I had watched this when I was 14 I would've loved it, but I don't think that's because I've grown old, I think it's because I've changed and cannot accept this romance now. I have friends my age who would love this and I have friends younger than me who would hate it. I think the drama was made for fangirls, no matter what their age is.

I agree with you, and it's not antifeminist. It is a law of nature that every action has its reaction, so if you behave in a certain way, it's natural for people to react according to that. Like you say, Young Do acts treats her like crap and drags her around everywhere because she lets him. It doesn't make it right, but it's not surprising either. An as for tan, yes, you're right it's not that she leads him on, because she actually likes him, but like you said, he's not exactly well emotional, suffers from abandonment issues and he's obviously trying to make sure she stays by his side.
But setting all that apart, I think that I have stopped thinking of Cha Eun Sang as a character. She's not really a character, she's just a plot device. A plot device for Tan changing, for Tan returning from America. A plot device for Young Do to grow up. A plot device to use against Tan.
I think she lost the right to be called a character the moment she stopped choosing. Now she's just a puppet for everyone's uses.
